DASA 2019 announcement is due now anytime. In the past, DASA scheme announcements have been made between 15 Dec to 7 Feb. Therefore, it is fair to expect the announcement sometime in mid-January. I do not expect much changes in DASA 2019 rules from last year considering this is an election year and no government wishes to tweak things. The current govt is anyways considered pro-NRIs. So stay calm and just focus on your SAT2 scores and board exams.

Note: Above is the List of Main Institutes Under DASA Scheme |
DASA Scheme for year 2017 – 2018 has seen more changes per below:
1) CIWG fee has been reduced to Rs125000 per year.
2) New applicants who had not applied by 12 June can now apply until 22 June 2017. New applicants are advised to send the SAT scores to VNIT (Institute code:7035) by the RUSH mechanism only.
Previously, DASA 2017 had relaxed residential requirement to 2 YEARS, i.e. 11 &12th from overseas for NRIs (was 5 years out of 8 years). Moreover, minimum SAT2 score requirement was fixed as 1800.
The below posts have ranking of colleges by branch, choice filling strategies, general information about DASA scheme and relative ranking of NITs/IIITs by JEE-Main candidates..
DASA Scheme- Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Ranking of Engineering Institutes Revealed !
Note: Considering that DASA result would be out on 30 June, I feel there is no purpose responding to queries relating to “tell if I can get ABC seat with given SAT score”. Please do not write such queries as the same will not be published.
Can I get an Upgrade Seat in Round 2?
I am receiving a lot of queries asking if I can get an upgrade seat. On this I could only provide general guidance based on last years’ experience (last year the cut-off really didn’t drop by even 10 points in top7-8 colleges). In case someone has better idea on this, I would publish that here:
Round 1 Cut-off -> Expected SAT2 Score Drop in cutoff
>2350 -> 0-10
2300-2350 -> 0-20
2200-2290 -> 0-30
2000-2190 -> 0-40
<2000 -> 0-60
As far as Internal Sliding is concerned, no one can predict that- so my request is not to rely on that stroke of luck as one of your main option. As earlier noted, I would be deleting all queries relating to internal sliding as it is not worth deliberating/ arriving at probabilities etc. 6 June As the result of DASA 2016 draws closer, I take this opportunity to wish You All the Best for Your Future Career. Students please keep in mind that this is just a start of the long road ahead- success of which depends solely on the individual students. My heart pains when I hear real stories of students diverting their focus on ‘other stuff’ and repeating years in college and wasting hard-earned money of their parents. Success comes only to those who believe in themselves and are prepared to win. Forget about quitting, And think only about winning. Keep running no matter what. Belief and courage is all you need. Go ahead and do it, I bet you‘ll be the winner. Best of luck to you! ——- DASA Scheme 2016-17 application portal is open from 1st April. DASA Scheme 2016-17 updated Brochure and seat matrix are also available. The major change in DASA scheme for 2016-17 is allocation of 1/3 seats for Gulf NRIs (CIWG) and resident Indian fee ($700 per semester) is applicable for these seats. For non-CIWG seats, the applicable fee of $4000 per sem is applicable. I request candidates to read DASA 2016 Brochure and DASA Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) at below links prior to asking questions on this blog: DASA 2016 Brochure DASA FAQ DASA 2015 Round-1-to4-Cutoff Note: Please note that the Gulf NRIs have two options in DASA Admission Portal: 1) Apply only for CIWG Seats 2) Apply for both CIWG and Normal seats. Choose the option per your preference. Note:
- SAT2 scores of May are expected to be out by mid-June as per CollegeBoard. As per DASA rules, scores received until 1 June shall be considered for Round 1 to 3. Therefore, scores of May exam can only be considered for Round 4 and Spot.
- The best scores of PCM shall be considered by DASA. Please note that it is not necessary that all 3 subjects are given in a single day. Even if all 3 subject tests tests are given in a single day, if a candidate had best score in Maths in Oct, Phy in Nov and Chemistry in Dec, all the best scores from Oct, Nov & Dec shall be considered together by DASA.
- Expected cut-off of DASA 2016 is given above for top 15 colleges. For rest of the colleges/branch, please take guidance from last years cut-off here.
3 April 2016
Queries Relating to IIIT-Hyd I have received many emails asking for comparison of various NITs with IIIT-Hyd. Kindly note that I cannot reply each query relating to comparison of different NITs with IIITH. In this regard, please note my following personal views:
- Non-CIWG Candidates: IIITH CSE is better than all colleges under DASA scheme. If you have score of 2370 onwards- you can hope to get CSE branch this year.
- I do not suggest any branch other than CSE in IIITH (CLD, ECE etc. etc.). If you have done some research on these 5 year-branches then , please go ahead (I respect your views but please respect my right to have different position in this regard and do not ask repeatedly same question if XYZ NIT is better than IIITH-CLD/XYZ)
- Those students who have scored less than 2300 in SAT and somehow hoping to get into IIIT-Hyd CLD/CND/XYZ); please note: the academic pressure and demand in IIIT-Hyd is very high and students below 2300 score typically would find extremely difficult to survive. This fact is very difficult to explain to parents since as parents we naturally over-estimate the capabilities of our wards.
- CIWG Candidates: If you get into NITK, DTU, NITT, IIITD, NITW, NSIT please save your $$$$ and choose DASANIT over IIITH. Obviously, if you are financially well-off and do not care much about $$$$, you really don’t need any advice what to choose- IIITH is a good option. If you can’t get into these NITs, you probably cannot get into IIITH- so the comparison is even not required.
My apologies for being straight forward and blunt. Sometimes this is the only way to put the message across. 4 April 2016 Institute Tier-wise Ranking My suggested preferences for CSE, Mech and ECE (each category below for CSE has big gap between them; the college that first appears in the same category is marginally better): CSE 1) IIIT-Hyd 2) DTU=NITK=NITT=NITW=IIIT-D=NSIT (choose anyone depending on convenience) 3) NIT Calicut=MNNIT (choose anyone depending on convenience) 4) MNIT=NIT-Delhi=VNIT=SVNIT=PEC=IIIT-A Mech: 1) DTU 2) NITT=NITK=NITW 3) MNNIT=NITC 4) MNIT=SVNIT=PEC ECE 1) NITK=NITT=NITW=IIIT-Hyd=IIIT-Delhi 2) IIIT-A= VNIT=MNNIT=NITC=DCE=NSIT=NITD 3) MANIT=MNIT=SVNIT Other Branches: Please choose in the order of SAT2 Cut-off score for 2015-16 provided in below tables (higher SAT 2 cut-off being better institute). Generally- NITK=DTU=NITT=NITW NSIT=NITC=MNNIT=NITD MNIT=VNIT=SVNIT=PEC Choice Filling: Normal(Non-CIWG) 1) Apply for 1/3 options (say 1-10th choice out of your total 30 (assumed)) for colleges/branches that look slightly difficult to get. There is obviously no need for colleges/branches that had cut-off of 2400 and if your score is 2250. 2) Apply for middle 1/3 options (say 11-20th ) for colleges/branches where you could just about get the seat last year or you are expected to get seat this year. 3) Apply for last 1/3 options (say 21-30th ) for colleges/branches where you could very easily get the seat last year or you are expected to get easily this year. Please understand the importance of these last choices just like top/middle choices. There were occasions in previous years where the cut-off suddenly jumped by 40-50 points. Students who had not planned for this eventuality/didn’t apply for lower tier colleges were not allotted any institute because of very few choices given by them on the portal. I strongly suggest to utilize as many choices as possible. CIWG Candidates Choice filling for both CIWG and Normal seats would be very personal affair. This involves the financial background of the person, the amount of love towards money or quality etc etc. However, examples could be given, say for CSE (just example, do not treat it as my personal preference- I really wish all to think about their own background and choose- there are no good templates) Choice 1-9: CIWG CSE: DTU, NITK, NITT, NITW, IIITD, NSIT, NITK-IT, DTU-IT, DTU-SE (hypothetical reasoning: I am a north Indian and say my child has reservations to go to NITC) Choice 10-14: Normal CSE: DTU, NITK, NITT, NITW, IIITD (Suppose I want SVNIT/VNIT/MNNIT-CIWG better than NSIT-normal, So NSIT not included) Choice 15-21: CIWG CSE: VNIT, SVNIT, MNNIT,MNIT, NITD, PEC, IIIT-A Choice 22-29 Normal: NSIT, VNIT, SVNIT, MNNIT,MNIT, NITD, PEC, IIIT-A Choice 30-36: CIWG CSE:NIT-Dgp, NIT-Rk, NIT-H,NIT-Kuru, NIT-Jal, MANIT, NIT-Goa 4th Round Expectations
- DASA do not publish seat matrix of what can be available in the 4th round. Therefore, please do not ask what would be available in the 4th round.
- Generally, top branches (CSE, ECE, Mech, IT) in top 15 colleges are not available. But some exception do happen every year that cannot be predicted.
- Generally, low demand branches (Biotech, Arch, electrical, civil, metallurgy, Prodn) in top 15 colleges could be available.
- Top branches (CSE, ECE, Mech, IT) could be available in lower ranking institutes.
- It can be expected that the cut-off for the 4th round could go higher by 20-30 points only (vs 3rd round) as the result of May SAT2 score would also be considered for this round.
Just to provide a flavor of what could be expected in this round, I am providing what was available in the Spot Round of 2015 (again refer to bullet point no. 1 above, DASA do not publish seat matrix for the 4th round). Spot Round Seat Availability in 2015 DASA-2015-Cutoff-Round-1.pdf 11 April 2015 IIIT-Hyderabad DASA Announcement For 2015, IIIT -Hyd have split DASA seats by disciplines. Only 20 seats for CSE for 2015 (vs a total of 30 seats in 2014), so expecting cutoff around 2380-2400 for CSE. The fee revised to USD 12k per annum (from $11 K). For ECE, 10 seats allocated for DASA. Expecting ECE cut-off between 2200-2300 9 April 2015 DASA Scheme brochure has been updated as on date and is available at below link. NSIT Delhi has been added as new institute this year. It is a good addition for north Indians interested in CSE/ECE who can now choose this college as the cut-off is expected to be lower than NIT K and DTU, being first time entry under DASA scheme. https://www.dasanit.org/dasa2015/documents/DASA%20UG%202015%20brochure%206apr.pdf 25 November 2014 For the academic year 2015-16, DASA scheme would be administered by Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT) Jaipur. I sincerely hope that DASA scheme is efficiently executed just like NITK, who had really done FANTASTIC job for last 6-7 years and have set very high standards in responding to candidates genuine concerns. Hats off to NITK admin who were pretty active on social media (I happened to receive quite a few email from NITK concerned in-charge in initial years to popularize the scheme and share the details with NRI community). More details to follow. 5 July 2014 Fourth Round of Cut-off for DASA Scheme 2014 – 2015 has been declared today DASA2014_SATCutoff_Round4_Allotment 30 June 2014 Third Round Cut-off for DASA Scheme 2014-15 DASA2014_SAT Cutoff_Round3_Allotment 7 June 2014 DASA Scheme 2014-15 Allotment List- 1st Round has been declared. Congratulations to all who got their dream institutes in the 1st Round. Following are the key takeaways from allotment 1) Phenomenal rise of CSE branch this year. It is first time in DASA Scheme that allotment Cut-off is 2400/2400. 2) DTU emerged the top college in DASA Scheme 2014-15 for CSE as DTU CSE seats finished before NITK-CSE. DTU has huge reputation for good placements as best of the companies visit there (and hire students). 2) Out of first 20 toppers, 8 selected DTU, 7 NITK, 3 NITT and one each for MNNIT and NITW. 3) IIIT-Delhi made a big bang entry into top DASA institute club. The institute has the potential to be the top DASA institute in a few years time.
Dear Mr. Raj,
Thanks for your continuous support to us.
what are documents required during admission process ? Is there any specific format for medical fitness certificate. Do we need NRI certificate, as we choosen NRI category instead CIWG.
Regards
For medical certificate, it all depends on the alloted institute. If the website of the institute doesn’t have any specific format (search for the documents required for normal JEE-Main category for this), just visit a normal MBBS doctor in a reasonably priced hospital and get a certificate from the hospital in their own format (here in Bahrain it costs BD 5 in KIMS Hospital).
For NRI status, again check on the website of the alloted institute. Generally, the institute just checks the original passport of the CANDIDATE (details such as resident permit history etc.). I understand these days, parents are very sensitive and in some cases overdo things which are not actually required. For such parents, they could get the NRI Certificate prepared from local embassy (costs about BD10 in Bahrain).
Finally, it never hurts to consult DASA Officials if some of the parents are still clueless.
Hello Raj sir
Last years cut offs when we observe, there is an increase in Round 2.
How is it possible? If you have any idea please let me know.
Regards
For last year, the 2nd Round cut-off comparison is shown in the below doc. Generally, for more than 95% seats, the 2nd Round cut-off was same or less than 1st Round. For those small 5% seats, such variation could be treated as an outlier data and not a trend, so can be omitted.
http://rajtyagi.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/DASA-2016-2nd-Round-SAT2-Cutoff-Top15Colleges.png
Good morning raj,,
Here is my query. Like date of birth criteria; is there a prority based allocation withbin NRI category. I.e SAARC countries citizen like nepal, srianka citizen get priority , followed by UK,US and then gulf NRIs… This info would help further
There is no priority for any group or nationality within NRI or CIWG seats. Date of birth is a tie-breaker in case of a tie- this is clearly stated in DASA Brochure.
I would like all to refer to DASA Brochure just because there are no rules outside of this Brochure.
Hello Raj Sir,
What willbe the criteria for cot off? It is the decision of Mnagement or what basis? Either based on the last year cutoff. Please clarify and help.
Regards,
Kumaran
DASA cut-off is actually a post-analysis data (or secondary data) since it is published AFTER each Round of seat alotment arrived at by the lowest SAT2 score for each branch of a college.
It has nothing to do with past cut-offs and neither it is determined BEFORE seat allotment. It is actually a post-mortem of seat allotment data.
Dear Raj, many many thanks for guiding most of NRI.with score of 2380 is it possible to get ECE with ciwg in nitw?
Thanks very much.
Due to sheer number of such requests, I am unable to entertain them (it would be worse if I entertain some queries and leave others for no reason). Anyways such comments are speculative as the actual cut-off is determined by the dynamics of who prefers what in how many numbers in a particular year. In previous years my success rate in such prediction was only 70% (mainly due to rules change every year so apple to apple comparison of 2 consecutive years is not possible) which I think is not good for a solid guidance.
I wish everyone good luck for seat allotments. Just one week left.
Brother raj
You did confirmed me but wanted to be certain. My daughter got 1900 and we had applied for colleges below cut off (mostly in north and not in
north eastern). what is the likely hood that she will be part of calling list on 1st counselling on jun 30th. In 1st round do they have to give seat to everyone who has applied (only based on cut offs), I was not sure on this. In other words, in situation candidate will come only on 2nd list and not on 1st one. sorry i am not clear on this aspect. reason – i had paid some money in self financing college and need to pull out the money.
thank you in advance/
Raj,
I know there is no certainity. wanted to see how to make the situation some what better if possible. Having seen your messges that NRI has applied/admitted around 629 got me worried. wondering if i should go after some of private colleges.
sorry for the request. dont know who else to reach out on this
This year, there are a total of 2350 seats under DASA (CIWG- 781, NRI-1569). I really don’t know why you are concerned with about 600+ NRIs applicants for 1569 seats. If your concerns are related to your case of low SAT2 scores, then its a different matter altogether. You are the best judge- take a call based on last year’s cut-off and your expectations of a good seat.
You will get a seat in the first round itself if there are no higher scorer looking for that seat and the seat is available. In other words, with 1900 if all your choices are CSE/ECE/Mech of NITT,NITK, NITW, IIITD, DTU (say top 10 institutes in the list), you may not get anything (not only in Round 1 but until Special Round). So your statement is not true that says” In 1st round do they have to give seat to everyone who has applied”
However, if you choices also include NIT Delhi, PEC, MANIT etc, you may get a seat depending on your choices at 1900 score and the cut-off which is determined this year.
Sir, how could we know how many people applied for DASA scheme this year ? Do you have the figures ?
Every year between 900-1100 students apply for DASA.
Last year a total of 1048 students got admission under DASA (CIWG-429, NRI-629) from a total 2324 available seats.
This year, a total of 2350 seats are available under DASA and I expect around 1000 students would apply (due to minimum SAT score limit increase from 1440 to 1800, the number of applicants could see a slight dip this year. Anyway, this will not impact the cut-off for scores higher than 1800 score).
Raj Sir: NRI-SAT score 2300 and CIWG SAT score 2280 end up with same NIT(say tier 2 colleges) in the same round, say first round. Is this likely?
Unlikely. Just refer to last year’s cutoff where the score gap between CIWG and NRI seats in the SAT score range of 2300 is more than 100 on an average.
Dear Mr. Raj
Once again many thanks for your this service and answering all quesitions even if we ask repeat and you are really a great support to NRI student due to the current Dasa changes childern get really tensed and delay in results also getting them more tensed.
As per my earlier disussions, I took a risk for my son and applied for NIT Material science on CIWG Quota with his SAT Score 2090 as last year CIWG cut off mark for Material Science is 1750 and there is a gap of 340 marks and now praying God to go smoothly. Thanks for all your support and guidance once again
Sir, I've this doubt since many months. Though DASA under CIWG has reduced their Fees structure to Rs1,25,000 per annum , should we also pay for each semesters ? Like I want Civil engineering in NITT, and do we have to pay EXTRA for semesters or only the 'reduced fee amount' should be paid?
Rs 125,000 is actually current RESIDENT fee for two semesters. Therefore, CIWG would be paying on par with resident merit candidates. CIWG will not need to pay any extra semester fee.
Hi Mohammed.. I just read it query regarding u applying for Civil Engineeeing.. May I ask u what is ur score?
Respected Ved,
Nah, I've not received my score yet. It will be out in July. Once its out, I'll Make sure to let you know.
Dear Raj,
My daughter has got admission in IIIT Hyderabad for CSE, where the fees is 12k $ pa. If she gets CSE in IIIT Delhi under CIWG, then the fees would be 2k $ pa. I can afford to send her to IIIT H. But I am tempted for IIIT D as the fees is 6 times lower now due to re introduction of ciwg and you also have said that it is a very good option for CSE.
So what is your opinion? Is IIIT H really much much much better and there's no comparison? Or there's not much difference between the two, and IIIT D would be an equally good option?
Thanks and Regards,
Pratik
To tell the truth, you would not be first one to do a thing like this. I know few who in fact dropped one year in IIIT-Hyd/NITT/NITK to take admission in CIWG low fees next year. Then there are some who stand for better quality and would not settle for less. Everyone has different perception about value of money and quality. I can only say quality wise IIITH is better and CIWG fee wise IIIT-D is better.
I know many parents would have had tough time choosing between CIWG vs NRI (better seats) even within DASA. God has given me enough that I do not weigh everything in money. But everyone’s situation is so different that there is no one correct answer.
All those who want to know if they can get ABC branch in XYZ college with SAT score of PQR under CIWG/NRI seats are advised to refer to last year's Cut-off List. Keep a safe margin of 30-100 points depending on your score range (expecting cut-off to rise compared to last year due to late rule changes from DASA).
How to change to ciwg category and what documents to upload
Suggest you get in touch with DASA officials.
I would think to change to CIWG category, you would just need to check one of the boxes against CIWG. That simple.
Dear Mr. Raj,
Is it worth to include NSIT-Delhi Mechanical engg in the choice, since Mechanical engg started last year only. Request you to advice please in view of the reputation of NSIT. Thanks Syed
NSIT is known for its circuit branches (CSE, ECE, EE etc.).
DASA changed rule again. New applications allowed till June 22nd. SAT scores through RUSH mechanisam only till June 22nd.Still, CIWG and NRI are separate categories.New time line announced. First list on 30th June only.
Dear Raj Sir,
I am a NRI applicant from start as I have nothing to do with CIWG category. Now DASA has unlocked the form for all the applicants it appears whether they are from gulf or non gulf category. My form is also unlocked.
Being NRI aplicant Can I enter inside the unlocked application of mine and change the branch/location options once again or not ?
Kindly advise. Regards.
The scheme has now been opened even for new applicants. In this scenerio, I would think you can change whatever is not frozen in the application portal, for both CIWG and NRI category.
The DASA schme itself may get closed in FUTURE or may have fees disparity for students of low income group or higher income group. This is being studied by four directors as per minutes of meeting held by HRD ministry in Shimla on 26 May.
NIT directos are proposing to close the scheme or to revise fees based on income level which will be again going to create problem for CIWG category from NEXT YEAR onwards.
Parent of children who will be passing in 2018 onwards should get up early to RAISE OBJECTION.
I have also read the minutes of meeting of NIT Counsil. NIT directors have been against DASA scheme for some time as more than 50% DASA students perform poorly.
Given that general elections would be in 2019, the present govt being very sensitive to its image may not scrap this scheme as of now. Most likely scenerio would be CIWG low fees would only be offered for low income group (say salary of $2K per month).
Dear Raj Sir,
After seeing lot of changes in fee structure for CIWG candidate, for NRI children cut off will be also high? My son has 1830 marks in SAT. Whwther he will get Mechanical or Electrical Branch in any NIT college? Please advice. Very much disturbed. Your help required.
On one side it is opening up doors for many CIWG students that is a great thing and welcome change, as most of the students are in this category. I am speculating these are the raitonal reasons behind todays big change. sure i am not an expert on this. please correct my observations 1) increase number of seats filling by CIWG student, as any way 1500+ seats are not getting filled 2) benefit comes this way – if you are CIWG and your marks is 2200-2300 range , chances are you may be limited to get what you wanted , + you will end up paying 8000. You will end up going out of the system and MHRD wants to limit this. This is one theory. Any way, what is a big deal if
1500+seats are not getting filled. Regular studetns from indian system will gobble it any way. There must be better angle to this.
For us and for me, we are more less get locked with DASA if we continue down the path. I was thinking of trying it out in anna univ or manipal as a backup plan, now everything goes for whack. Anna univ counseling on june 29th and dasa results comes out on june 30th…
things are more complicated than what it seems.
Dear Raj
Thank you for your splendid support helping NIT aspirants through DASA scheme.
Your posts are so helpful and clears all doubts.
Apprecaite your noble work.
Also, sincere thanks to VNIT coordinating team for their great work in updating the SAT scores and fees in the quickest time.
Hi sir.
I need your help/opinion for one more thing. I know it is a question you hear often but please do help out.
I have a SAT score of 2090. I am determined to do CSE. If not CSE then Mech. But mostly CSE.
And I wish to go through the CIWG way.
Could you please please suggest the names of reputed NITs belonging in the North? The NITs down south are frankly beyond my league. So the names of a few reputed NITs from up north or even west or east would be good. I have gone through the previous year cuttoffs numerous times. Your opinions would make my decision easier.
Also, if its not much of a trouble, please do suggest colleges i could apply with for my score. But that is optional. The names are mainly what I need.
Thank you so much sir. Wishing you a good day.
Please refer to the list of colleges on this same post (2016 Cut-off List). You could choose all colleges upto MANIT Bhopal. If you still don’t get anything, you would have to lower your expectations with the college and then choose any from the list. BTW , the listed colleges are not at the bottom of barrel and fit-for-purpose (I have not listed few NITs which are not worth it under DASA)
Thanks Rajesh hope we will get goods new CIWG category will automatically eligbile for NRI also
Dear All
I have just spoken to VNIT, they ask me to wait till today evening before we re-submit our application. Some more changes are expected.
Regards
Thanks Rajesh!
Hello Mr. Raj,
Do you have any estimates on the number of people with 2400 SAT scores?
Earlier you mentioned somewhere around 100-120, and recently you mentioned 150+. Do you have any informaiton on this?
Thank you
Only time will tell (on 24 June exactly) how many have the score of 2400 this year in DASA. BTW, only applicants who have paid $4300 can see this information (I can’t see this- it is too expensive to get this number!). Hopefully, one of you would share on this blog with the correct number.
The whole point I am making by giving a guesstimate of 150+ applicants with 2400 is that the applicants should not become compacent and MUST have back-up choices such that even if the cut-off goes by 50-100 (depending on the score range) points, they are not left empty handed. Blog readers should take this seriously (or else be ready with NO allotment until Round 3!).
Dear Raj
The score of 190 what I mentioned is SSN cut off ( 95% PCM in CBSE ) and the cut off mark for SSN is 184. JEE Main he scored only 129 marks that you already advised he cannot get in JOSA
Dear Raghuraman ji,
Even 129 marks in JEE-Main and 95% PCM in CBSE are very decent score. I am sure not all 150+ students who would have scored SAT2 2400 this year in DASA, can boast of JEE-Main score of 129. Since you have constrained yourself with Chennai-based colleges only, I don’t have a solution to your dilemma.
Dear Mr. Raj
Good Morning and we will not leave you till 24 th and our sincere thanks to you for your patience and replying all queries even if it is repeat understand the concerns of parent and no words to praise your service. I am planning to take following call and just confirm it is in righ direction
1. I spoke to SSN college Chennai ( of HCL) and they told cut off marks this year for them is 184 and my son is having 190 marks and they told he will get a letter in a few days.
2. I also applied for Anna University NRI quota for another back up. Both SSN and Anna we opted for Chemical engineering
3. With my son SAT score of 2090 I am planning to opt CIWG quota for Material science and Metalaurgy in NIT Trichy as last year cut off mark for Material science and Metalaurgy for CIWG quota in NIT Trichy is 1920. almost he is having 170 marks more than last year cut off.
Please advise me as I am going in right direction
Has your son scored 190 in JEE-Mains? If yes, he is a very bright student and has massively underperformed in SAT2 exam with 2090 (should have scored 2400).
1) If the score of 190 is just for entrance exam for SSN college, give it a skip. Follow below comments.
2) Anna Univ is quite reputed and a lot of MNC visit it for placements (very good placements anyways). In my personal opinion since your DASA branch choice is not good (Material Sc), this could be a good option.
3) DASA has given you massive opportunity to change/refill the choices. I am not obligated to convince anyone on this board, but my heart bleeds when people make bad choices(such as Material Sc). The low cut-off for this branch (even in NITT) tells a story about this branch which you have failed to decipher. In any case, I would not suggest which branch to choose being a very personal decision, but would only suggest to choose a branch which has a cut-off in reputed NITs around your SAT2 score.
When will this years cut off release?
The cut-off is released with the ressult of each round (based on the actual SAT2 scores of the applicants and their relative preferences). So it will be on 24 June for Round1.
Sir is there any chance in drop of the ciwg cut off?
There is 90% chance (P90) that the cut-off will increase for both categories.
Raj sir, in the past, could CIWG compete for both CIWG and NRI at the same time?
CIWG category was introduced just from the last year. Before that all were NRIs.
Last year, CIWG applicants were given option to fill choices with both CIWG and NRI seats.
will DASA re-introduce this option for CIWG applicants to apply under both category? Anna University has this option
Suggest you talk to a DASA official.
I am a student who finished his 11th and 12th in UAE and therefore is eligible for ciwg. I wanted to know whether colleges ask for parents employment letter and visa during counselling as my family is moving to India permanently and we may not be able to produce those documents. Due to above problem I am hesitant to go for ciwg quota, please advice.
Suggest that you talk to DASA officials.
congrats to all GULF as FEE is revised.best of luck to all students. thank you raj for your efforts .iam following this web site since last year…last year my daughter joined nitw ece in ciwg quota.that time i got a lot of information about collages and branches from this web site by Raj.
Dear Raj Sir,
Now again CIWG candidates fees has been revised, which seems that cut off for CIWG candidates will be on higher side as compare to normal NRI candidate. Am I right? Please advice. Secondly as per my understanding, now there will be chances of getting admission of NRI student having score of 1800 – 1850 will be there. Please show the right direction.
Regards,
Rajesh. K
With the revised fee structure for CIWG, this category is expected to see high cut-off compared to NRI category on the similar line to the last year. I agree that NRI category though not a beneficiary of reduced fee, can take solace that they could get a better seat with the same score as NRI cut-off will be lower.
Dear Raj.uncle With the recent change in CWIG fees. Need you guidance.
I have applied under NRI category with 2090 marks for NIT Trichy
material science and metallaurgy. Last year CEiG cut off
1760 marks. Can I opt for CWIG from NRI . Will get or
risk. In case if didn't get is there any way to get thro
NRI. Pl guide me
As a general rule, if your SAT2 scores are better than the CIWG cut-off of last year, it makes perfect sense to apply under CIWG category. The risk that the cut-off would increase this year has to be borne by the candidate- and it is worth it as long as you have a good number of choices filled-in as back-up.
I am receiving a lot of personal queries about chances of getting a seat for a given score. My response remains that just refer back to last year’s cut-off for a good guidance (better than any guesstimate I might throw)
DASA HAS REVISED FEES FOR CIWG TO RS..125000 PER YEAR..14/06/2017
DASA has given option to change category for those CIWG who chose NRI category. Totally personal choice.
Does it appear that "round 4" has been eliminated ?
Yes, the Round 4 has been eliminated for a good reason. Both Round 4 and Spot Round used to serve the same purpose and due to schedule constraint, DASA has only retained the Spot Round.
Im so happy. Overjoyed.
It seems they finally heeded to the petition I put up and the numerous complaints we filed on the MHRD site.
Relieved about the fees. Now just praying that I get a CIWG seat with my current SAT score. :/
Congratulations for your efforts in putting up the petition and getting the rewards.
Dear Raj
You already clarifed on my below request and just want to reconfirm with the current situation.
My son having 2090 SAT opted for NIT Trichy in Material science and Metalaurgy under NRI last year cut off mark was 1540. Will he get in the first round in NIT Trichy
DASA result day is just few days away- on 19 June 2017 to be exact. In any case my previous response holds good (I can place a $10 bet if you wish).
Hi Raj
How you do differentiate between round 1, round 2 and round 3. Is someone has to be close to 2400 marks to be called in round 1. if someone in 2000 do they have to wait till 3 round. I know i am trying to speculate it and not sure how it is behing handled
I guess you have really not understood the seat allotment by DASA. Please refer to DASA brochure.
Starting with a score of 2400, each student gets a SINGLE seat based on their preferences filled in DASA form (allotment done by computer algorithm). So , for example at your score of 2000, about 700 seats (out of 2300+ seat) would have been already allotted. You cannot get those 700 seats even if it was one of your first preference. When your score comes for allotment, the computer algorithm would try to allot from your choices and would allot you the highest AVAILABLE preference in the system. Remember that last year’s cut-off are used by applicants to gauge their chances of getting seats matching with their SAT2 score.
In Round 2, the same procedure is repeated with a change that those seats which are ACCEPTED by the candidates do not appear as AVAILABLE in the system (those seats go out of the system). In Round 2, the applicants are not allowed to change their preferences and could only hope that some of the higher seats candidates somehow move out of DASA system and accept JEE-Main/Advance/IIIT-H/US univ offers. Generally nothing much changes in Round 2 & 3.
Sorry raj for coming back on as a followup query,. This 700 seats on the aasumption there are 700 individual who has got more that 2000. Is that right. In my case we dont wanted ti be more enthusiastic and have low expectation so we dont get depressed if we dont get. is NRI and PIO one and the same. NRI or PIo has separate seats and i guess it wont affect regular ones. Is it rt
Yes, it is expected that about 700+ applicants would have SAT2 score more than 2000.
Yes. NRI, PIO and Foreign National category compete for the same bunch of seats (no intra-category seats) and is being referred as NRI to distinguish it from CIWG category.
Dear Sir,
Sir if we somehow don't get a seat in any of the colleges in all the 3 rounds. What should we do next?????
In such case, participate in Round 4 by changing branch/college preferences. Almost half of the DASA seats go vacant (though in slightly less reputed colleges with low demand branches), so you can also participate in Spot Round (conducted after Round 4).
Dear raj sir
My doubt is that can cutoff for dasa drop?
Did it ever happened or it just remains the same or increase?
The branchwise cut-off has seen drop mainly for ECE and EE over the years (during 2006-2010 period ECE used to be top branch like CSE today).
Since CIWG fee was too low last year, these seats had seen enormous demand. CIWG cut-off seen last year is expected to drop (certainly will not increase this year). The cut-off this year would most likely be mid-point between CIWG and NRI seats of last year.
Since only 3 days are left for the actual cut-off for this year, there is not much anyone can gain discussing this issue.
Raj
As ususal great thanks in order. You have been churning great answers and helping parents anxieties and challenges even during last minute shuffles. Have couple of queries.
it is a great news DASA comes up with 125000 fees for CIWG. Do we actually think cut off would dramatically increase. If i go by last year 4th round cut off and my ward at 2000 sat score range, she wont stand a chance in higher ranking college choices or stream. so I picked up tier 2 and tier 3 colleges or non populare choices. How do we play this scenario now given the change now. I have chosen only 10 courses or so with stretched cut offs, below that i might as well have preference to put my kid to self-financing college which is local. Follow up question to that 1) could i expand my list now 2) any chance cut off could go somewhere close to round 2/1 of last year (must be silly to ask) 3) was there any increase in number of seats this year (dont have last seat matrix). some colleges i have seen only 10 allotments from dasa but no of seats are more.
So to come back on this fundamental question last minue. I never had the luxury to pick up streams for a month. everything was chosen on 8th and 9th
Please advise
1) Choice re-filling is allowed for CIWG per DASA website
2) No one has seen future and, therefore, predicting cut-offs can also result in negative consequences for many students.
3) Seats are more or less same as compared to last year.
Hi Raj Sir,
Can you give us some clarity on how early the DOB must be for an applicant to have a decent chance of getting a CSE CIWG seat at NIT Trichy? The UG seat matrix shows only 4 seats. Much appreciated.
DOB related data is not published by DASA and therefore not worth it. Based on few applicants who had posted such info, DOB until March 1999 could be lucky. I know, I would receive many queries on this subject where each applicant would like to know his/her chances. I would not be able to take any further query on the topic except for stating some guesstimate per below:
SAT2 Score 2400 and DOB Until March 1999: Top 30%
Apr- Sept 1999: Top 60%
Oct-Dec 1999: Top 80%
2000 onwards: Last 20%
The above is pure guesswork based on very few datapoint from previous year. If any of you would like to help next year’s candidate with 2400, do write your DOB and what seat you got this year (only for 2400 scoreholders where DOB tie is more critical) .
Hello! Raj,
My son's May'17 SAT score is now updated in green fonts on first page after DASA login. But if I download the Application Form from DASA login (thinking that I must print the updated one) it shows the same old score. Any comments? I believe merit list will be prepared using new score which apprears on first page in green fonts.
You have to trust DASA system.
Yes, Mr Raj. I fully trust DASA system.
They took prompt actions to update May SAT scores. VNIT team always answer phone calls and reply very professionally.
Dear Tushar,
Same I also noticed for my child.I think Mr Raj is right, we should have a trust on them and also I suggest that you and me should talk to Poonam Sharma who is responsible for the SAT SCORE information. If you talk do let me know on this blog what is her take and same I will do.
Dear Raj
With JEE Main 140 marks is there are any chance in getting NIT Metalaurgy and Material science under JOSA . My son scored 95% in Maths Physics & Chemistery in CBSE will they consider
With JEE Main score of 140, your son’s rank would be around 50K (from this year CBSE 12th marks have no weightage in JEE-Main). With this score/rank, I don’t think you can get any seat in an NIT (except probabily N-E or J&K type NITs which are not suggested in any case).
Dear Raj Sir,
What is your assessment of Mahindra ecole centrale for Mechanical Engineering?
It’s a new college that is shaping up nicely. It will be counted amongst few of the best after 5-10 years. Until then, please take it it easy. There are many recruiters (and foreign universities) that don’t entertain the institute until the college has 10 batches passed out and many only go to currently ranked top 25 institutes in India. From that perspective, I would stick with those institutes that are amongst top 25 as on today.
The quality of students that go to any institute is a major factor apart from good infra and hostel. New colleges cannot claim that they have highly ranked students with them.
Spectacular performance by DASA. team…May scores verfied in such a short time…updated with details…. what a sign of commitment!!! Prayers and best wishes to all children for their successful selection. Thank you Raj Sir… Now we wait for the results…
Just for information of all that we locked the application with June 8th score on 8th midnight. DASA verified the score successfully within 15 hours i.e on 9th afternoon itself. Thanks.
May score submission to application submission to payment confirmation to score recording – everything done in less than 48 hours.
Splendid job done by DASA team. Special thanks to yogesh ji, sachin ji and the whole team. They are friendly and took care everything.
In span of less than 48 hours boom, boom everything recored and got executed. At 5 pm on friday i sent rush reporting, 8 pm credit card transactions, yesterday morning submitted application.. 1pm yesterday sachin ji confirmed payment. Today at 4 scores got updated. You cant asked better than this. I did follow up thou.
Btw, i am the one asked questions. Deep respect to dasa team. Now i am praying for divine grace for my daughter.
Hi,
I have sent SAT SCORE thru rush service . in college board site status shows fulfifled as of (Date sent 07-June-2017 . in DASA application status shows pending for SAT score verification. I sent again another SAT SCORE thru rush service with 06-May-2017 result. status shows fulfifled as of (Date sent 09-June-2017) . how long it take DASA to verify the SAT score? my son got 1980 in SAT. he is interested in civile engineering. i have selected choice as NIT Trichy, warangal, surathkal , Calicut. I didn't select any other choice. is it possible he can get CIVIL engineering in hte mentioned NIT. what if he has not alloted any . if by any chance SAT score is not verified by DASA on 12-June-2017. can he eligible for Round 4 with same application.
Other applicants are providing feedback that the Rush Reporting has already been received by DASA and verified. You can check with DASA directly if it is not working with you.
For round 4, separate DASA fee would be charged to receive new applications, new SAT scores or new choices.
Hello Mr. Raj,
Is any college will give admission in any branch with SAT Score of 1830. Please advise, so that we will proceed accordingly or we should go for any other private institutions. Please advice.
Regards,
Kumar
Dear, There is no need of anxiety or sheer frustration. It seems you lack basic information on DASA scheme and appear to be a new blog reader. I suggest that first you look at the last year’s SAT2 cut-off for various branches/colleges (also available on this blog).
If you do above, you would find that you can get a lot of good NITs even with a score of 1830. Due to lack of time, I would be unable to provide a list of colleges you can get with score since you yourself can also do this exercise without any other knowledge.
In addition, half of the 2000+ DASA seats go vacant every year- so be confident that you would get a good enough college.
Dear Anand,
My request to all of you would be to refer to last year’s cut-off for NRI category (available on this blog). Last year’s cut-off should work fine for this year for planning purposes, for both CIWG and NRI category. Do expect that this year, the cut-off for both CIWG and NRI category would be similar (NRI expected to be slightly less than CIWG category). As usual, every year the cut-off does increase slightly depending on the score range (say 20 points in the score range of 2300 and 30 points for score range of 2200). Lastly, no one has seen future and cannot predict with any surity.
Hi
Already application is locked and how we can able to upload the CBSE mark sheet with self attestation
Once the application is locked, no documents can be uploaded. Some applicants who are totally reliant on May SAT score have not yet locked their application as they wanted to upload the SAT score themselves.
Once the application is locked how we can able to upload the CBSE Mark sheets with self attestation
Dear All,
Just to share with everybody, I spoke to DASA officials and they have confirmed that the May score have been receieved by them this morning. Updation may take upto 14/15th June.
Regards
Rajesh
Dear Raj Sir,
As CBSE Grade XII result has already come but school has yet not given the marksheets because it takes time for them to send to respective countries school.I wish to ask you that DAS too has not asked till now the marks sheet of GRADE XII because in the form we have filled that candidate has appeared in MARCH 2017 and we have attached Grade X & XI marksheets. Hope its not a matter of concern ?
Since the 12th result has been already declared, you should dowload the marksheet from cbse website and upload the same in DASA website after self attestation. This is what I have done. Thanks.
Dear Rajesh,
No problem of getting/uploading class-12 mark sheet now. It is required to verify the same at the time of admission/reporting time to respective NIT.
This is my last year experience. Mr. Raj is doing a great help to all of us. I am sharing last year experience, now became regular visitor to his site.
Sanjay
Thanks Sanjay ji.
Dear Sanjay / Raj Sir,
Sincerely thanks for the advise & feedback. I too was believing that DASA will not like to creat another headache for themself for unlocking first and then again locking back the application for XII markesheet alone because at the end of the day it is the institution which is finally admitting the candidate should be concerned at the time of admission that whether the candidate has fulfilled all the besic requirements /eligibility conditions.Since time is running out even for DASA so where is the sense for unlocking the already locked applications instead for going ahead with their next course of action which is to start the seat allocation process. Thanks & Regards once again to Raj Sir too.
Sir , should we have to LOCK application in order for sat scores to get verified ?
Sir , and how good is a score of 2300 to get EEE ? please help sir, I am anxious.
Yes, you have to lock your application first and then the SAT scores shall be verified. This has already been reported by so many applicants on this blog.
The demand for EEE is quite less and you can get almost all colleges with this score (except possibly NITT)
Sir, so with that score could i be able to get a seat in EEE under ciwg ? I am really anxious sir pls recommend if i should choose nri or ciwg ? Sir pls help
Already responded. The demand for EEE is quite less and you can get almost all colleges with this score (except possibly NITT) with either NRI or CIWG.
Sir , i am in a dilemma right now. if i change my category to ciwg will i get seats in Nit surathkal for EEE as my score is 2300 ?
Sir , i am anxious if saving money could be really risky. Should i change it to ciwg sir ?
As a general guidance if your SAT2 scores are higher by 30-40 points from last year’s ciwg cut-off, you are MOST LIKELY to get your seat this year. If your scores are very close to last years cut-off, there is really no safety that you would get that seat. In such cases where the CIWG situation is tight, a very sound advice is to have some back-up choices where cut-off for the seats was lower by 50-100 points last year.
Dear All, All those who are facing issues with SAT score or payment status not updated after locking of the application, please feel free to call up VNIT or Canara Bank as the case may be. The guys are really cooperative and helpful. I did this for my son and the response was swift.
Dear Rajiv, Whom did you call at VNIT where you found them helpfful ?
Why I am asking this question is because there are various phone nos. to contact and some are specific one for the specific query.Regards.
Dear Mr. Raj,
We have already selected the option of 'direct sending scores' to VNIT for May test. we expect the same to reach by 12th June as per the required deadline. Do you suggest us to send score again by 'rush score reporting' on 8th June, once the result is out.
Regards
Rajesh
Those who have selected automatic score dispatch for May score need not re-send the score by Rush Reporting.
Raj sir: application locked, SAT score and payment received- does this imply application accepted?
Generally yes. If DASA finds any error in application, they would let you know about the same by email or thru applicant area on DASA website. Just keep a watch on any communication from DASA.
