DASA 2019 announcement is due now anytime. In the past, DASA scheme announcements have been made between 15 Dec to 7 Feb. Therefore, it is fair to expect the announcement sometime in mid-January. I do not expect much changes in DASA 2019 rules from last year considering this is an election year and no government wishes to tweak things. The current govt is anyways considered pro-NRIs. So stay calm and just focus on your SAT2 scores and board exams.

Note: Above is the List of Main Institutes Under DASA Scheme |
DASA Scheme for year 2017 – 2018 has seen more changes per below:
1) CIWG fee has been reduced to Rs125000 per year.
2) New applicants who had not applied by 12 June can now apply until 22 June 2017. New applicants are advised to send the SAT scores to VNIT (Institute code:7035) by the RUSH mechanism only.
Previously, DASA 2017 had relaxed residential requirement to 2 YEARS, i.e. 11 &12th from overseas for NRIs (was 5 years out of 8 years). Moreover, minimum SAT2 score requirement was fixed as 1800.
The below posts have ranking of colleges by branch, choice filling strategies, general information about DASA scheme and relative ranking of NITs/IIITs by JEE-Main candidates..
DASA Scheme- Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Ranking of Engineering Institutes Revealed !
Note: Considering that DASA result would be out on 30 June, I feel there is no purpose responding to queries relating to “tell if I can get ABC seat with given SAT score”. Please do not write such queries as the same will not be published.
Can I get an Upgrade Seat in Round 2?
I am receiving a lot of queries asking if I can get an upgrade seat. On this I could only provide general guidance based on last years’ experience (last year the cut-off really didn’t drop by even 10 points in top7-8 colleges). In case someone has better idea on this, I would publish that here:
Round 1 Cut-off -> Expected SAT2 Score Drop in cutoff
>2350 -> 0-10
2300-2350 -> 0-20
2200-2290 -> 0-30
2000-2190 -> 0-40
<2000 -> 0-60
As far as Internal Sliding is concerned, no one can predict that- so my request is not to rely on that stroke of luck as one of your main option. As earlier noted, I would be deleting all queries relating to internal sliding as it is not worth deliberating/ arriving at probabilities etc. 6 June As the result of DASA 2016 draws closer, I take this opportunity to wish You All the Best for Your Future Career. Students please keep in mind that this is just a start of the long road ahead- success of which depends solely on the individual students. My heart pains when I hear real stories of students diverting their focus on ‘other stuff’ and repeating years in college and wasting hard-earned money of their parents. Success comes only to those who believe in themselves and are prepared to win. Forget about quitting, And think only about winning. Keep running no matter what. Belief and courage is all you need. Go ahead and do it, I bet you‘ll be the winner. Best of luck to you! ——- DASA Scheme 2016-17 application portal is open from 1st April. DASA Scheme 2016-17 updated Brochure and seat matrix are also available. The major change in DASA scheme for 2016-17 is allocation of 1/3 seats for Gulf NRIs (CIWG) and resident Indian fee ($700 per semester) is applicable for these seats. For non-CIWG seats, the applicable fee of $4000 per sem is applicable. I request candidates to read DASA 2016 Brochure and DASA Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) at below links prior to asking questions on this blog: DASA 2016 Brochure DASA FAQ DASA 2015 Round-1-to4-Cutoff Note: Please note that the Gulf NRIs have two options in DASA Admission Portal: 1) Apply only for CIWG Seats 2) Apply for both CIWG and Normal seats. Choose the option per your preference. Note:
- SAT2 scores of May are expected to be out by mid-June as per CollegeBoard. As per DASA rules, scores received until 1 June shall be considered for Round 1 to 3. Therefore, scores of May exam can only be considered for Round 4 and Spot.
- The best scores of PCM shall be considered by DASA. Please note that it is not necessary that all 3 subjects are given in a single day. Even if all 3 subject tests tests are given in a single day, if a candidate had best score in Maths in Oct, Phy in Nov and Chemistry in Dec, all the best scores from Oct, Nov & Dec shall be considered together by DASA.
- Expected cut-off of DASA 2016 is given above for top 15 colleges. For rest of the colleges/branch, please take guidance from last years cut-off here.
3 April 2016
Queries Relating to IIIT-Hyd I have received many emails asking for comparison of various NITs with IIIT-Hyd. Kindly note that I cannot reply each query relating to comparison of different NITs with IIITH. In this regard, please note my following personal views:
- Non-CIWG Candidates: IIITH CSE is better than all colleges under DASA scheme. If you have score of 2370 onwards- you can hope to get CSE branch this year.
- I do not suggest any branch other than CSE in IIITH (CLD, ECE etc. etc.). If you have done some research on these 5 year-branches then , please go ahead (I respect your views but please respect my right to have different position in this regard and do not ask repeatedly same question if XYZ NIT is better than IIITH-CLD/XYZ)
- Those students who have scored less than 2300 in SAT and somehow hoping to get into IIIT-Hyd CLD/CND/XYZ); please note: the academic pressure and demand in IIIT-Hyd is very high and students below 2300 score typically would find extremely difficult to survive. This fact is very difficult to explain to parents since as parents we naturally over-estimate the capabilities of our wards.
- CIWG Candidates: If you get into NITK, DTU, NITT, IIITD, NITW, NSIT please save your $$$$ and choose DASANIT over IIITH. Obviously, if you are financially well-off and do not care much about $$$$, you really don’t need any advice what to choose- IIITH is a good option. If you can’t get into these NITs, you probably cannot get into IIITH- so the comparison is even not required.
My apologies for being straight forward and blunt. Sometimes this is the only way to put the message across. 4 April 2016 Institute Tier-wise Ranking My suggested preferences for CSE, Mech and ECE (each category below for CSE has big gap between them; the college that first appears in the same category is marginally better): CSE 1) IIIT-Hyd 2) DTU=NITK=NITT=NITW=IIIT-D=NSIT (choose anyone depending on convenience) 3) NIT Calicut=MNNIT (choose anyone depending on convenience) 4) MNIT=NIT-Delhi=VNIT=SVNIT=PEC=IIIT-A Mech: 1) DTU 2) NITT=NITK=NITW 3) MNNIT=NITC 4) MNIT=SVNIT=PEC ECE 1) NITK=NITT=NITW=IIIT-Hyd=IIIT-Delhi 2) IIIT-A= VNIT=MNNIT=NITC=DCE=NSIT=NITD 3) MANIT=MNIT=SVNIT Other Branches: Please choose in the order of SAT2 Cut-off score for 2015-16 provided in below tables (higher SAT 2 cut-off being better institute). Generally- NITK=DTU=NITT=NITW NSIT=NITC=MNNIT=NITD MNIT=VNIT=SVNIT=PEC Choice Filling: Normal(Non-CIWG) 1) Apply for 1/3 options (say 1-10th choice out of your total 30 (assumed)) for colleges/branches that look slightly difficult to get. There is obviously no need for colleges/branches that had cut-off of 2400 and if your score is 2250. 2) Apply for middle 1/3 options (say 11-20th ) for colleges/branches where you could just about get the seat last year or you are expected to get seat this year. 3) Apply for last 1/3 options (say 21-30th ) for colleges/branches where you could very easily get the seat last year or you are expected to get easily this year. Please understand the importance of these last choices just like top/middle choices. There were occasions in previous years where the cut-off suddenly jumped by 40-50 points. Students who had not planned for this eventuality/didn’t apply for lower tier colleges were not allotted any institute because of very few choices given by them on the portal. I strongly suggest to utilize as many choices as possible. CIWG Candidates Choice filling for both CIWG and Normal seats would be very personal affair. This involves the financial background of the person, the amount of love towards money or quality etc etc. However, examples could be given, say for CSE (just example, do not treat it as my personal preference- I really wish all to think about their own background and choose- there are no good templates) Choice 1-9: CIWG CSE: DTU, NITK, NITT, NITW, IIITD, NSIT, NITK-IT, DTU-IT, DTU-SE (hypothetical reasoning: I am a north Indian and say my child has reservations to go to NITC) Choice 10-14: Normal CSE: DTU, NITK, NITT, NITW, IIITD (Suppose I want SVNIT/VNIT/MNNIT-CIWG better than NSIT-normal, So NSIT not included) Choice 15-21: CIWG CSE: VNIT, SVNIT, MNNIT,MNIT, NITD, PEC, IIIT-A Choice 22-29 Normal: NSIT, VNIT, SVNIT, MNNIT,MNIT, NITD, PEC, IIIT-A Choice 30-36: CIWG CSE:NIT-Dgp, NIT-Rk, NIT-H,NIT-Kuru, NIT-Jal, MANIT, NIT-Goa 4th Round Expectations
- DASA do not publish seat matrix of what can be available in the 4th round. Therefore, please do not ask what would be available in the 4th round.
- Generally, top branches (CSE, ECE, Mech, IT) in top 15 colleges are not available. But some exception do happen every year that cannot be predicted.
- Generally, low demand branches (Biotech, Arch, electrical, civil, metallurgy, Prodn) in top 15 colleges could be available.
- Top branches (CSE, ECE, Mech, IT) could be available in lower ranking institutes.
- It can be expected that the cut-off for the 4th round could go higher by 20-30 points only (vs 3rd round) as the result of May SAT2 score would also be considered for this round.
Just to provide a flavor of what could be expected in this round, I am providing what was available in the Spot Round of 2015 (again refer to bullet point no. 1 above, DASA do not publish seat matrix for the 4th round). Spot Round Seat Availability in 2015 DASA-2015-Cutoff-Round-1.pdf 11 April 2015 IIIT-Hyderabad DASA Announcement For 2015, IIIT -Hyd have split DASA seats by disciplines. Only 20 seats for CSE for 2015 (vs a total of 30 seats in 2014), so expecting cutoff around 2380-2400 for CSE. The fee revised to USD 12k per annum (from $11 K). For ECE, 10 seats allocated for DASA. Expecting ECE cut-off between 2200-2300 9 April 2015 DASA Scheme brochure has been updated as on date and is available at below link. NSIT Delhi has been added as new institute this year. It is a good addition for north Indians interested in CSE/ECE who can now choose this college as the cut-off is expected to be lower than NIT K and DTU, being first time entry under DASA scheme. https://www.dasanit.org/dasa2015/documents/DASA%20UG%202015%20brochure%206apr.pdf 25 November 2014 For the academic year 2015-16, DASA scheme would be administered by Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT) Jaipur. I sincerely hope that DASA scheme is efficiently executed just like NITK, who had really done FANTASTIC job for last 6-7 years and have set very high standards in responding to candidates genuine concerns. Hats off to NITK admin who were pretty active on social media (I happened to receive quite a few email from NITK concerned in-charge in initial years to popularize the scheme and share the details with NRI community). More details to follow. 5 July 2014 Fourth Round of Cut-off for DASA Scheme 2014 – 2015 has been declared today DASA2014_SATCutoff_Round4_Allotment 30 June 2014 Third Round Cut-off for DASA Scheme 2014-15 DASA2014_SAT Cutoff_Round3_Allotment 7 June 2014 DASA Scheme 2014-15 Allotment List- 1st Round has been declared. Congratulations to all who got their dream institutes in the 1st Round. Following are the key takeaways from allotment 1) Phenomenal rise of CSE branch this year. It is first time in DASA Scheme that allotment Cut-off is 2400/2400. 2) DTU emerged the top college in DASA Scheme 2014-15 for CSE as DTU CSE seats finished before NITK-CSE. DTU has huge reputation for good placements as best of the companies visit there (and hire students). 2) Out of first 20 toppers, 8 selected DTU, 7 NITK, 3 NITT and one each for MNNIT and NITW. 3) IIIT-Delhi made a big bang entry into top DASA institute club. The institute has the potential to be the top DASA institute in a few years time.
Dear Mr Raj
Your information in this site is very valuable. I came to know that this year from OMAN alone around 180 children got 2400 marks in SAT 2 , you have any such information with you. How to validate this inforamtion. As this very high figure will change the whole DASA seat allotement to a very high level and most of the college will be close at 2400 marks in CSE /ECE/IT/MECH branch.
I understand this cannot be validate unless DASA first seat alotement is done on 19th june.I am asking to prepare my self for my Son in case he will not get the preference collage & CSE branch even after geting 2400 marks as his date of birth is April 2000.
Regards
180 applicants getting 2400 from just Oman CANNOT be true. I am in this field for long enough to let you know that getting 2400 in SAT2 is not kid’s play. The number of 2400 applicants has been growing from 30+ 10 years back to 60+ in 2014 and ~100 in 2016 (in 2016 20+ applicants who got 2400 in 2015 also applied to grab lower fees in 2016 for CIWG). The number of 2400 for entire DASA scheme would be between 100-125 this year). This number from Oman would not exceed 20 this year.
Dear Raj Sir,
I have noticed in your blog that you have a decent respect for DAIICT- Gandhinagar, Gujarat Institute.I wish to take your opinion that there are two branches over there as (1) B Tech in INFORMATION & COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY ( ICT) , (2) B Tech in ICT with Minor in Computational Science.
Can you kindly advise me that which one will be good for my daughter who has a sat score of 2220 & xii cbse of 95% overall.I know its a matter of interest but if child wishes to go for higher studies as well as want to pursue a branch which has opportunities inside as well as outside india.just foe the curosity sake I wish to ask that out of these two branches which one is tough to get OR if I modify my question then…. Out of two branches the resident indian students who get selected by JEE MAINS ranking , which branch higher ranked students prefer to take in this institute ?
Hope I am not preplexing you with my questions? In fact your inputs are always highly respected by me. Regards.
For DAIICT, ICT with Minor in Computational Science is more in demand and sees high cut-off (JEE-Main AIR of 6K vs ICT @12k).
Dear Raj Sir,
My current status as per DASA site is 1) My application is locked 2) My payment is recieved 3) My sat subject scores of all three subjects ( from college board) is received by DASA. All three rows are showing GREEN TICK.
Am I suppose to do anything further or wait for 19th June 2017 ? Regards.
Good luck- you are fine. Just wait for the allotment.
Dear Sir, Sincerely thanks for the promt reply and regards to you.Your efforts will be always remembered by parents as well the child for life.May God Bless you & your family. Regards.
Dear Raj,
Dasa has confirmed my payment. Score has also been received by them ( confirmed through phone). Should i wait for 8th june result and then submit the form ( I wamt to enter the june score in the form myself)? What is your opinion in this regard.
Thanks and regards,
Have trust in DASA officials. No need no wait until 8th June. In the end, it’s choice what you do.
In application to my bank in Dubai for swift , I mentioned my name as I am the account holder. Name of student is not reflected anywhere. Reference number that my bank here, gives me- will this also be included in the message sent Canara Bank Nagpur Branch? I am confused how the DAsa officials will relate my swift transfer and my son's name. Adding to complexity, there was a confusion on which swift number to b included and this was clarified and my bank has re-sent to CITi bank. Any advice, please
We are supposed to put the student name and the application ID in field 59 which is very confusing but somehow my band did something and the DASA officials were able to locate it without any transaction number.
Dear Mr. Narayanan,
Generally when you do swift transfer , bank releases a "DELIVERY REPORT" to you for the transaction carried out where lots of details are there. In that delivery report there is a column 70, WHICH IS "remittance information". In that purpose of transfer, candidate DASA ID, candidate name, candidate passport information all is mentioned. That delivery report also carries "TRANSACTION ID" which Dasa IS ASKING ON ONLINE FORM.You have to fill that transaction id as well as attach the DELIVERY REPORT OF THE BANK which is doing transfer of the money on your behalf to DASA.
thank you Mr Srini and Mr Rajesh. Bank Manager, Canara Bank Nagpur has sent me a reply with details of payment received and now DASA has confirmed payment. Great team work at DASA.Must be having good coordiantion among Bank Manager and Mr Sachin at DASA to make all these possible.
Hello,
I was a bit scared regarding the application rejection. How often is that students are rejected because of improper paperwork? I submitted everything as required, the transcrips of 11th and 10th grade are school transcripts, since IB doesnt give transcripts. My school is affiliated with IB. I have made the respective payments, and DASA has received my SAT scores as well. Also the DASA website says that they would not communicate if the application has been rejected due to faulty paperwork. If anyone has any insights onto their application process, please help.
Hi Rishab
I have the similiar situation, My son is also doing IB and there is 10th and 11th transcripts provided by school. The size of the transcrpt is much bigger (6 pages each transcript) than allowed size of 500 KB. Furthremore the trascript conatin multiple pages and converting them in JPG format makes them almosut un-readible(illegible). How you are managing this. Thanks for your response. I will appreacite to connect you on my personal mail ID (mp_19722002@yahoo.co.in)
Sir , could someone please brief me through what and how should i attest my documents for submission ?
Please reply
Dear,
Pl ask your kid to sign the all the documents, that is enough.
Dear Mr.Sajan ,
All the Documents need " Self Attestaion " Like you sign your passport copy and the applicant sign His/Her passport copy / study Certificate etc ……
Regards
George Damian
You need to scan & upload your documents (as asked in brouchure) with specific file sizes (as mentioned in the brouchure). They should be attested by yourself (self attested). Here yourself means "candidate".
Sir , i meant what should i write on each documents ? Should i just add sign , name , date and write "self attested " on each documents ?
Please clarify sir , i am afraid if it gets rejected . I have only 2300 sat score and looking for EEE in south India and its my 2nd attempt , thats why i am really anxious about this.
What you have suggested for self-attestation is more than enough.
Just curious to know whether ‘second attempt’ means you passed your 12th std last year? If yes, what was your SAT2 score last year for DASA application.
As I have noted many times, there is no real need for being anxious regarding rejection. If your application is frozen early to give DASA officials about 2 weeks to check your application; in case of any application error, DASA would normally write you an email to correct the situation. I have not been informed about a single case where application was rejected on some flimsy ground without being informed by DASA.
My score was 2200 last time sir , and is it ok if i upload the same document iuploaded last year ? the self attested date would be 28 May 2016 , is it ok ?
It is suggested that you self- certify with the recent date.
I got 2200 last year Sir , can i upload my 10th mark sheet as proof of date of birth Sir ?
10 th certificate that has DOB should be fine.
Hello,
Is there a fourth round of DASA in IIIT hyderabad? If so, can those people still register and apply if they didn't previously register for the first three rounds?
Also, does anyone have any estimates for the number of ECE or ECD seats left in the fourt or any succeeding rounds?
Thank You
IIIT Hyd accepts application only single time (deadline already over) and all subsequent round allotments are done through this pool of applications.. The admission process is quite different from DASANIT in this regard.
Alright. Thank you.
Anyone locked application and got fee payment or SAT scores verified? How many days it takes??
Hi,
I have not locked my application form yet. However, DASA has confirmed the payment received and it shows as "FEE PAYMENT DONE". Usually DASA confirms within 7-10 days if it is a swift transfer.
Hope this helps.
Dear Mr. Narayanan ,
I didn't lock my application till date , However my payment is verified within 48 hrs time . I paid through Credit card which is bit expensive compare to swift transfer ( I paid US $ 4436 to pay a fee of US $ 4300 ) .
Regards
George Damian
DASA coordinator told me that the system is setup to verify the SAT scores only after locking the application. I had sent them the SAT scores using rush order that reached them withing two days. When I locked the application they verified the SAT scores in couple of days and confirmed the SAT scores receipt.
I am plqnning yo submit everything including scores and payment only on 8th. Would the transaction charge will be 146 $(4300+136}. Can you pls point me what are the things i should be ready with . I guess it can take indian credit cards.
It takes around five to seven working days for completing score & payment confirmation before application gets locked.
Hi
I am trying to figure out someone with Physics, Maths and Computer science qualify admission through DASA scheme in B.Tech.
As per DASA eligibility requirement one should have scored above 60% in physics, maths and one of the subject ( Biology, chemistry, Computer science etc) while on the other side he has to score above 1800 in PCM in SAT.
Without studying chemistry in Class 11/12th still candidate can score more than 1800 in SAT and qualify admission through DASA?
Getting 1800 is quite possible with good scores in physics and maths (700+ in both.). To get balance 400 in Chemistry, you would just need to get 15 questions correct out of total 85.
Alternatively if someone can score 750 each in maths and physics, you can get SAT2 score of 300 in chemistry with a raw score of ZERO (no correct, no incorrect out of 85 questions). If you don’t believe this stuff, explore more info online and report your findings.
Dear Raj,
my sons sat score is 2240. He wishes to get nitw warangal mechanical. Should we select ciwg or nri in order to have more possibility of getting it?
Some NRI category candidates do not want me to suggest that CIWG apply under NRI category. In any case I have been suggesting that please talk to DASA officials before taking any decision. Please do not expect that DASA officials shall give this in writing- they can certainly indicate verballly.
With above clarification I will not publish any more comment relating to this subject because of sensitivity around the issue.
Dear Raj,
thank u very much for your reply.
I talked to DASA officials in Nagpur, they are telling(verbally) that CIWG people can also apply in NRI category (by making the answer to confusing question " do u belong to ciwg category") either yes or no depending on the case.
But I seek your opinion given that my sat score is 2220 and i wish to get nitw mechanical. So which option (ciwg or nri) will have more chances to get it.
thanks and regards,
Thanks for updating your discussions with DASA (several students had informed me the same and therefore I had been suggesting CIWG candidates to apply under NRI category. However, all applicants are responsible for their own actions in this regard).
Now coming back to your case with 2220 score, last year’s cut-off was 2240 for NRI (and 2350 for CIWG). In this background, your chances are more with NRI category rather than CIWG category.
So on 8th June after result, v need to send the score by rush reporting. Right?
During SAT2 exam registration, if you have already indicated VNIT code (i.e. automatic score dispatch), there is no need for Rush Reporting.
If you have not done above, it is suggested to send scores by Rush Reporting.
Raj sir: X SAT score 2350 and 5th option NIT ABD. Y SAT score 2300 and 1st option NIT ABD. Who will get Xor Y(after allocating to all other eligible candidates)? Please advise whether marks will precede or option will precede in allocation
Marks will have priority and not the option. This subject is already discussed (refer my reply of 20 May, 9.51a.m.) which is reproduced below:
I suggest that you read DASA brochure one more time. It doesn’t matter whether you have 1st choice of XYZ CSE branch and another applicant has the same choice as 99th of his choice; if another applicant has higher marks, he gets that seat (in case with his marks he can’t get upto 98th choice).
The option number doesn't matter. Whoever has a higher score will be put into the merit list regardless of order of preference of either candidates. If the other candidate doesn't take up the seat, then you will have the seats left for the second and succeding rounds.
Another good news. Rush reporting of old score received in 2 days . Awesome j0b by VNIT. I take back my earlier comment. They have everything in place.
Good News. VNIT will support as much as to ensure June 8th scores are uploaded and processed provided we send the rush reporting scores on time. We have certain responsibility to do. We had a call today and everything is good. VNIT is doing their best to support us.
I am planning on sending my scores to dasa( Jan score) and resend my may score by rush method on 8th. But I haven't mentioned automatic sending procedure. What should I do? Someone please help.
There is no need to wait until 8th June to send your January score- it is suggested to send them now. If you don’t know how to send SAT score, just follow below CollegeBoard link:
https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat/scores/sending-scores/how-to-send
For May SAT test if you have not mentioned VNIT code in CollegeBoard site during registration, scores will not be sent automatically; best way forward is Rush Reoprting (visit CollegeBoard website to know the procedure).
But sir, will dasa be receiving by June 12 if I send by rush score method on June 8.
Most likely DASA will receive your scores in time. You have to do your best by choosing Rush Report (since you missed a good opportunity of free automatic score dispatch).
My concern is that DASA mentioned that students "belonging" to CIWG cateogary are only allow CIWG seats. Doesn't that clearly mean that CIWG candidates cannot chose NRI as their cateogary?
There is no need to be concerned- you can apply under CIWG. As I have indicated earlier, those (CIWG) having concerns do not need to look at NRI category at all. If you need any clarification on the subject, please call up DASA to hear from horse’s mouth.
Rajesh,george,
Great to hear your feedback. Good that we are pushing the acclerator which i feel is the right thing to do given the impact. I for one would not have raised red flag had VNIT not treated these batch of scores as less priority. Let us keep pusing. For understanding time interval i pushed my daughter low SAT score thru rush reporting on 22nd eve at 7 pm. It hasnt reached till 24th morning india time 11 am. Will check back and give you update later.
Dear SRINIVASAN,
Understood your concerns.Yes, its no harm in trying out expermental rush reporting. But do not loose heart even if it has not reached as you said till 11am of 24th morning because dont forget you are here doing only expremental study but in your experimental study there is one slight flaw.HERE YOU ARE COMPARING APPLE WITH BANANA because in CB site itself it is mentioned that your so called RUSH REPORTING WILL TAKE 5 TO SEVEN DAYS (if I am not wrong). So you should not expect your score to reach within two days of applying experimental rush reporting.
You see why I am saying comparision study is bit flawed because in case of requesting score reporting to CB AT THE TIME OF APPLYING MAY 6th score , it is not RUSH REPORTING.It is REPORTING REQUEST WHILE APPLYING. Am I Right ? In that case CB has very clearly stated in their website and I had already noticed in my child's earlier reportings that THEY SEND THE SCORE TO YOUR COLLEGE CODE MENTIONED IN THE APPLICATION FORM (BY YOU), A DAY BEFORE EVEN YOU COME TO KNOW YOUR RESULT.
So in our case the result is expected on 8TH JUNE 2017 & I AM DAMN SURE IT WILL BE WITH DASA VNIT ON 7TH JUNE 2017.
Cheer up yaar. I am not only creating hope in your mind but I ASSURE YOU YOUR DAUGHTER SCORE WILL BE ON YOUR "APPLICATION STATUS" OF MAY 2017.Take it a written gaurantee from me.
Raj sir: I am eligible for NRI and CIWG for residential eligibility, I want to choose NRI, so I have to say 'NO' to question:DO YOU BELONG TO CIWG Category?"- there is no other option anywhere to choose NRI or CIWG in the application-will this later create a problem(since I am working in Gulf and saying no to CIWG residential category)
My suggestion for those (CIWG) who have doubts/concerns/apprehension is to apply under CIWG category. Those who are clear in their mind about relative advantages of applying under NRI category, can go ahead with NRI category. I really have no intention to change anyone’s well-thought-out decision in the subject matter.
Rajesh,
Vivian is an educational counselor and they will help only schools by sorting out any issues in delivering scores to school. When you see messages here you would see scores take 2 weeks to get processed. Why? Where and why delay even with rush reporting. On top of it VNIT is not enthusistic as they think this is not thr priority. Someone need to process it in 3 business days. 10 and 11 sat and sun. Is it possible even with CB sending report on 7th. CB does not care and thry will send the report only, it is VNIT who needs to process it. Can we talk to VNIT on tgese 3 days . Not viable on those days. If there is a systematic way to upload scores in VNIT system and that is what yogesh ji wants it. That is only possible if both talk to each other. DaSA needs solution and only if they talk to CB. I was trying to connect and not working. If someone can reach to david coleman CEO or COO CB, and connect DASA then it might wotk.
God help. I am not hopeful as too many activities need to happen on 8, 9 snd 12.
Dear Srinivasan,
Yesterday only in the morning I talked at DASA with Poonam Sharma and stated her the same problem. She is the one who is handleing the SAT SCORE related issues.I briefed her our same concern and asked her IS YOUR SYSTEM IS ROBUST ENOUGH to take care of the MAY 6TH score because CB has confirmed me personally that SCORES of MAY 6TH will be with DASA VNIT on 7TH ITSELF (A DAY BEFORE).I asked her specifically that you have 7th/8th/9th/12th JUNE available days to put say 1000 students updated score in their respective forms so that before 12th IF A CANDIDATE HAS IMPROVED HIS/HER score then it must reflect in his/her CURRENT STATUS COLUMN.
SRINIVASAN, She has very confidently replied me that we need not worry because we are knowing this issue and we are fully equipped to handle this , NO NEED TO WORRY , was her last statement. I told her thank you very much and cut the call. So I personally feel they will 99.9% update it within this span.Kindly do not forget that VNIT is a reputed institute in MAHARASHTRA. Lets leave it on them and hope for the best.
Dear Rajesh , Srinivasan
VNIT has time from 7th June 2017 to 18th June 2017 to update the May 6th Scores, as the first round seat allocation is on 19th June 2017 .
Regards
George Damian
Dear Mr,Srinivasan , Ms . Sneha ,
I spoke to Dr.Yogesh and he confirmed that the score VNIT receives on or before June12th will be considered for preparing the seat allocation /Merit List.
Secondly, In 2015 The May 1st SAT Score was released on 26th of May and i sent the score to MNIT , Jaipur on the same day through Normal delivery from college board and it reached before the closing date of Application ( 1st June 2015 ) .
Regards
George Damian
Dear Raj sir,
You mentioned above in your article that the June 8th SAT scores cannot be rushed this year. Are there any other ways to send the scores of May 6 so that it reaches to VNIT on time? I didn't even indicated VNIT during my registration. Is there any way possible?
On this blog, I have been suggesting to send scores automatically by indicating VNIT code at the time of SAT2 registration for May exam. You are in a difficult situation now. Please check with CollegeBopard if there is a way to send your score by 12 June to VNIT.
Dear Raj,
It is over 15 days since College Board has has confirmed sending my ward's SAT scores. The DASA Application status shows as 'Score Not Verified". When can I expect a positive confirmation that the score has indeed been recieved by DASA?
You may not have frozen/submitted your completed application. Based on the feedback from other applicants, it is taking about one week for VNIT to confirm the scores.
DASA 2017 can start a blog or join this blog and answer all questions-will be helpful for all
When NITK was DASA coordinator for many years, there used to be two-way communication with me. However, now each year the NIT coordinator is changed so it is only wishful thinking (i.e. currently DASA is not customer-centric).
It looks like may 6th SAT subject score cannot be processed by VNIT on june 8th – june 12th even if all scores submitted by june 8th. Even though it is being electronically submitted i think it takes sometime do the labour work of receiving scores, processing and validting it. I spoke to dasa co ordindator, he though he wanted to help but again it is not their priority as it is an exception.
in my case my daughter case is screwed as she wrote the test only on may 6th. i tried to talk to college board rep and they are willing to help provided VNIT talk to them. It bit of struggle. if someone has similar problem can you plese talk to VNIT co ordindate and also college board. college board high school counselors are willing to help povided VNIT reaches to them,
I am sure there are others with similar situations. If no action, some of us expecting MAY 6th scores ae screwed. here are the contact info

Dear Mr Srinivasan,
It is not clear from your both messages that What exectly you were told by VIVIAN after raising your concern to her ? You are mentioning that Mr. Yogesh at DASA seems to be not very keen on this issue
.What exectly Mr. Yogesh is mentioning when you might have told him that Sir, I have talked with one educational counselor Vivian at COLLEGE BOARD and they will surely send the score on 7th June(a day before score is generally known to the candidate) ?
If you can elaborate the exect message at both ends(AT VIVIAN END & AT DASA MR YOGESH END) then the matter ca be pushed up further in right direction.Otherwise we are only hitting in the dark.
Hope you are getting my point.I am waiting for your reply.
Continuation of my earlier on "DASA" inability to process may 6th score by june 12th. Looks like pretty much manual process is involved in DASA to upload the scores. Now dasa co ordindator issaying may 6th scores are only exception and not the priority for them to process it. He is willing to help out but he is lookign for solution from college board. currently only manual labour is involved in uploading the score. if VNIT receives let say 1000 subject score on june 8th, they don't have the labour to process it. that is the issue.
i spoke to collegeboard and finaly reached educaitonal counsellors. they are willing to help provided VNIT reach out to college board and put forward a request. again, this is not VNIT priority. Here are contact info of educational counselors who can help colleges. One VIVIAN is willing help.

can some of you reach out to dasa co ordinator or right set of folks in DASA to reach out to collegeboard
crisis: We are screwed. I had a long with Yogesh of DASA. It looks like even electronic mailing from college board will be processed only in 2 weeks time. My daughter score will come only on june 8th. college board is saying they will send the score on 7th (during registration i have enabled it to send the score automatically to VNIT) itself but expecting processing ability at VNIT which is not available.
Looks like VNIT does not have the capability process the scores sent bY college board immeidately. Even those who are trying to better the score will have the same issue.
any suggestions. rush reporting will be available only after scores are received.
Anyone applied in COEP . If yes can you tell how to get the form, if online can u send the link.It would be a great help for me
@sanjay: what Is COEP??
College Of Engg Pune.
Anyone sent USD4300 from Dubai? If yes, please let me know Bank and branch. It will help me to go to the same bank and branch and send the money.
Hello! Narayanan,
I am from UAE. I used local banks' credit card to pay.
@Tushar;thank you- I made a Swift transfer-still sorting- in case it is not working- will reach u to know which card payment has worked- I will also use the same
Hi Raj,
These DASA people are doing lots of changes at the last minute. So I'm thinking to atleast apply in another university for computer science outside DASA as a last resort option for my daughter. She has 2400 in SAT 2. I like DA-IICT very much. But it is not CSE but ICT with CS minor. Will that be a good option according to you? Also, which other ollege would you recommend for computer science which has quota for NRI's?
Really appreciate your help.
Thanks
Rajeev
I really don’t see any need to look for non-DASA alternatives. If you have decided to have an alternative, I would suggest: IIITH, BITS-Pilani, DAIICT, LNMIT, BIT-Mesra, COEP, VIT. The DAIICT ICT degree looks bit odd with name, but equips students with good skills. While I am fully convinced about the institute, you may try to find some reviews online before making a decision.
Rajeev. I am in similar boat but thou not have marks. I liked manipal but perception generally bad about manipal. Is there a comparison info on manipal vs others. I do not have enuf data other thsn info available daiici. Wanting to explore as well
Dear Raj
Appreciate your valuable suggestion and service to the NRI students . We sincerely thank you for your inputs .
I have a question regarding residence criteria " my son currently living in India since last one year pursuing B. Tech from pvt engineering college. Before this , He has completely his qualifying exams ( 12th and 11th) abroad and also meet the five years abroad education criteria but currently living in India ( no NRI status) , however Im am still NRI. Is he eligibility for DASA 017 ?"
Many thanks for your input
Your son should be eligible.
Dear all, The HRD Ministry has changed the residential criteria for UG admission from 5 years to 2 years – from May 23rd onwards.
If the NRI completed 11th and 12th only at abroad, who is eligible to apply this academic year 2017-18 thorugh DASA scheme.
Mr.Raj : Thanks for your help, allowed my email id and phone number in your blog.
Kindly remove my email and phone if it is available in your blog.
Best Regards,
Muthukkumaravel PB
Dear Muthu: Congratulations as your hard work and follow-up has resulted in the change of rules.
Great show muthu sir
Any comment on manipal since i saw VIT on the list. How good is MESRa witb location being ranchi and more state quota. Was there any comparison data on DACII. I see only gujarati students and havent seen sizeable higher studies movement or on those lines. Is someone did analysis on that.
I belong to CIWG; can I still apply under NRi- in other words is it up to me to choose between CIWG and NRI?
I am really getting so many queries on this subject where I have already provided recommendation.
If the CIWG applicants are in doubt or have apprehensions about applying under NRI category, please make your own call. Those CIWG who understand that it is better to apply under NRI category, I would say go ahead and apply under NRI category since it is expected to see a lower cut-off than CIWG category.
Hi raj,
Sorry confused with choice filings. 1. Will my choice 1,2 and 3 all be considered for round 1,2 and 3. Is there an instruction on how does choices works with others who has more marks but then their choices are lower thsn yours. Please.
I suggest that you read DASA brochure one more time. It doesn’t matter whether you have 1st choice of XYZ CSE branch as 1st choice and another applicant has the same choice as 99th of his choice; if another applicant has higher marks, he gets that seat (in case with his marks he can’t get upto 98th choice).
Mr Raj: if i have 2300 score-if I give three options say NITK, VNIT, NITTand if all three NITs have students with 2400 scores-is there a possibility to choose another set of NITs after round one??
You will not be alotted any branch in that case upto first 3 rounds. You can only choose ‘another set of NITs’ after Round 3.
Any chances DASA would relax the residential criteria of 5 years (till last year it was only 2 years) before the last date of submission for Round 1,2,3 or for Round 4 ?
What needs to be done to reverse the last minute change by DASA, as they don't respond to any of the request placed. Legal option is workable ?
I think such applicants should move on and find other non-DASA option since the most prabable event for this year is no revision of the rules. For Legal options, you could consult an attorney.
Anand, The rule has changed to 2 years , Please apply now.
Best Regards,
Dear Mr. Raj
Thanks for your continuous support to us..
As I informed earlier, the college board is not accepting the May score on Rush basis, as this facility is only available for current scores. Is this is true ?
Regards
Just checked the CollegeBoard website and it is stated ” Rush reporting is only available for scores that have already been released.” In this case, Rush Reporting is not applicable presently for May2017 score as it is not available until 8th June.
https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat/scores/sending-scores/rush-reporting
Dear Mr. Raj
I applied for My son under CIWG quota for NIIT (Trichy) Material science and Metalaurgy with SAT score of 2090 marks.. But due to recent change in the CIWG quota recently notified , I called Dr. Yogendra Dasa Co-ordinator and he suggested if I want to play safe , better to change to NRI quota as now Dasa Unlocked the application for editing and changing.
Please advise is it ok to change and or any indication from Govt they will once again revise the CIWG fee. I think we have time till Sunday as Dasa gave time to edit the applicaton.
Need to advise
Regards
V. Raghuraman
My viewpoint is already available regarding CIWG vs NRI seats. Regarding CIWG fee future, no one has seen future; so few decisions we have to take based on most probable scenerio- which seems to be no change in current DASA rules for 2017.
dear raghuraman,
can you please tell me where did you get the information that application formwill be open till sunday for changing the choice between ciwg and non ciwg?
regards,
Dear Mr. Raj,
My daughter has scored 2400 in SAT 2 and 1390 in SAT 1. She hasn't been shortlisted in the IIIT Hyderabad first round as the cutoff was overwhelmingly 1490. Do you think we have any chance of getting in? How much do you think the sat 1 score would drop down to in the coming rounds?
Also my daughter's birthday is September 06th, 1999. This shouldn't be much of a problem for DASA right? Our preference order would be NITK>NSIT>NIT Trichy>IIIT D.
I really appreciate your help. Thank you.
The cut-off for the tie-breaker SAT1 score is not disclosed by IIITH. Last year, since some person got admit @2390 SAT2 score right at the end of the process (a couple of days before joining date), you could also get an admit sometime later. Only caveat is, last year’s cut-off to be used only as a guidance and not as an guaranteed event.
Dear Sir,
Recently DASA has been updated saying that we can choise either CIWG or NRI category since i being a resident in gulf has opted for CIWG. Most of the people said that NRI is better as there is less competition. I have got 2380 SAT score. Is my decision for opting CIWG have anyadverse affect in getting the seat in NITW (ECE)?
Please refer to my main post on the same thread where I have tried to clarify the preference between the two.
The latest news from DASA is bit confusing and I am of the understanding that gulf students can not apply in NRI category at all. They can only apply in CIWG category.
DASA is the only authority to frame policies. However, it can’t be too foolish as this can be easily challenged in court as it puts gulf applicants at dis-advantage. Since, there is no fee reduction,Gulf candidates should have the freedom to choose what is best for them. BTW, in previous years, DASA has been taken to court by few candidates and this year would be no different as it is a matter of getting ‘fruit of labour’ for deserving candidates.
As always, check with DASA before such doubts become rumour and Gulf candidates make ‘self-goal’.
Hi Raj
Wanted your opinion on whether it really makes sense to spend so much money on iiit hyd or bits for dasa admissions mode even though there is no financial constraint
My question is does branding really matter ?if child is getting admission through merit in vit then just because of brand name why should parent spend on admission through dasa
Please tell me your viewpoint is it really wise to spend 25 to 28 lakhs more just because of branding
Isnt it ultimately your hard work during your employment which will take you to higher levels and not just your degree from branded institute
So if vit is good enough maybe not as good as bits or iiit hyderabdthen why spend so much on bits iiit hyd through dasa
Your viewpoint please
Thanks and regard
I respect your viewpoint. However, the industry (i.e.placement/ US MS) looks at it differently. The best of the companies only go to ‘top 25’ institutes (each have their own list) with consideration that those institutes admit best of the lot students. If someone is in NITT/K/W/IIITH CSE, they are amongst top 3000 students in the country (and not amongst 30,000 in the country). Similarly, the top USA universities have their own grading of colleges and admit students for MS accordingly.
The value for money is a very personal subject (and should be that way). In my personal opinion (am entitled for an opinion like everyone else), spending on quality education is an investment and not an expense.
Regarding IIITH and IIITD, please review my dedicated post on each institute as it is not really practical to repeat the viewpoint on each query.
Dear Mr. Raj,
DASA has now seperated CIWG and non-CIWG seat allotment. Is there any indication that in future CIWG fees will be brought back to 2016 level?
There are no indications that CIWG fee would be like last year. You may wait for another week to see if there is any news about it from DASA and then decide accordingly.
Mr. Raj,
As per the flashing news in DASA website,we can choose only CIWG or NRI category. My daughter is having 2360 SAT scores (May scores are not yet announced). What do you suggest to choose CIWG or NRI. They have unloacked the application for few days to enable us to make changes.
Regards
Dear Mr. Raj,
Sorry, I did not see the post in the blog regarding CIWG/NRI category issue. I have my answer, thanks.
Regarding the rush reporting, I have checked the college board website, it is only for 'available scores' not for may SAT score. Other blog readers can inform, if they are able to manage this for May score as well.
Regards
The comments on this post have been enabled as of today.
Hi Raj,
I seek your expert advice for my daughter. She has a SAT 2 score of 2400 and SAT1 Score of 1550. She is born in March 1999.
She secured a rank of 4665 in VIT Open category and allotted a seat in Computer Science @ Vellore Campus. She is also shortlisted in IIITH 1st List for Computer. In DASA our preferences are NIT Surathkal, DTU, NSIT and IIITD for Computer. Can you advice the rankings between below
VIT IITH NITK DTU NSIT IIITD.
Really appreciate the great work you are doing
Regards,
Atul
If you have financing constraints, just go to VIT. If finances can be managed, just choose IIITH. Period.
Dear Raj Sir,
It is just for your information that even though I am not an NRI from Gulf I am also asked by DASA – VNIT TEAM to submit additional documents than what are mentioned in the brochure of 2017.They asked to submit :—
1) Copy of passport of the parent working outside India 2) Parent's visa 3) Parent's work permit 4) Certificate from company as a proof that parent is working outside India.
I could not understand why this is asked later and not mentioned in the brochure for NON GULF parents/applicants ?? Your views on this please.
I agree with you that such requirement is applicable to only CIWG. Such documents were not required from NRI category in the past, unless they have changed rules this year only.
Hi Raj,
Does this mean that if parent of a foreign citizen child is Indian citizen and working in India, the child is ineligible to apply? I am asking this question as I am an Indian citizen and working in India, but my daughter is a US citizen and studying here and I want to apply for her into one of the NITs via DASA.
Thanks,
Maruti
If the candidate is US citizen, it is a clear case of Foreign National category and your citizenship should not matter. Anyways, like most responses, it doesn’t hurt to get the things clarified from horse’s mouth.
Dear Raj
My son scored in JEE Main 128 marks with rank 40861 . He got 2090 marks in SAT and he already applied NIIT for Material science on Dasa Quota. Will he has any chance to get thro JEE Main Mark 128 marks in NIIT material science
With JEE Main marks of 128 (rank 40861), there is absolutely no chance to get anything in NITT. With SAT2 marks of 2090, there are all the chances to get your branch as this branch is not in much demand by DASA applicants.
Raj: with new mechanism-better to apply for NRI or CIWG?
I have updated the main post on this subject. If you refer back to a query response about 2 weeks back, I had given break-up of CIWG total candidates and NRI candidates (for the year 2012- info for that year is only available). CIWG candidates vary between 55-60%.
Dear Mr. Raj,
I would request you to kindly clarify my doubts about my son’s education.
My son is studying IB diploma with Mathematics, Physics and economics are mains in British international school in Brazil. He would like to study engineering in India thru DASA scheme.
Is he eligible for Indian universities to study engineering as he opted economics in IB?
If not, can you please provide your guidance how to proceed to get into engineering colleges in India.
regards
seshagiri
Please refer to page 5 of DASA Brochure (referred below) by which your son is not academically eligible for DASA scheme
Applicant should have completed successfully Mathematics, Physics and one of the subjects from (Chemistry,
Bio-technology, Computer Science, Biology) in 11thAND / OR 12th, as applicable in the respective boards.”
In my opinion no engineering college worth its salt (including private colleges) will allow such admission without studying Chemistry, biology, computer science as one of the 3rd subject.
Either you would have to pursue some non-engineering stream or repeat the equivalent exam of 11/12th with the subjects DASA brochure has specified.
Dear Raj,
You are doing such a wonderful job to NRI community. So many of us are getting benefitted from this blog.. hats off to you !!
Due to last minute change of qualifying criterion , I am forced to look for my ward at private college options in India and seek your suggestion on the prefrence. Received offer letter from BIT Mesra yesterday.
BIT Mesra , IT.… VIT CSE .… LNMIIT,Jjaipur CSE
Appreciate receiving your valaubel advise.
Kind Regards
All of your three options are good. For CSE, Just based on quality of faculty and education, I would choose LNMIIT CSE>BIT Mesra IT>VIT CSE. LNMIIT is one of the institute outside IIT system that the renowned IIT CSE professor, Deeraj Sanghi likes much (apart from IIIT-Hyd, IIIT-D, DAIICT)
Don’t take the above info at face value and do some research on LNMIIT at your end as well.
Dear Mr Raj,
while filling the application form what should I select general or CWIG we are eligible for CWIG.
my son has secured 2400 in SAT2 and he is born May 99. if we select CWIG he may loose general seats as most are from middle east. I want to try for CSE NIT Trichi/ suratkal
many thanks
regards
murtuza
If you have gone thru the comments/inputs from some CIWG applicants who had talked to DASA officials, CIWG candidates are eligible for Normal seats as well.
I think your son’s DOB is a positive and you should be able to get what you choose based on last year’s perspective. However, since this year there are about 100 applicants with 2400 score, anything can’t be said with certainty.
Hello Sir,
This is urgent…
Sir I had just sent my form to dasa few days ago…Sir but now I have realised that I had commited a mistake in the college preference section… Sir what should I do?? I really want to change it??
Please reply soon..
You can’t make changes to the preferences until 3rd round. You are not alone;nearly 25% applicants are not happy with their choices a week later. Mostly related to peer based info.
Anyways you can write to DASA if they can help.
Dear Ghansham ,
your form must be in locked state. Now changing is not possible but there is no harm as Raj Sir is suggesting to write or call DASA to know the possibility. Also update this blog whta they tell you.All the Best.
Dear sir,
I just completed my application and submitted as my preferences were made so much easier by this blog (FAQ post especially).
I take this opportunity to thank you from bottom of my heart. In appreciation of this blog's fantastic value addition to my application process, I am clicking away a couple of advertisements so that this blog keeps running at full throttle.
Thanks again

Dear Raj,
while registering for May test, I have indicated the VNIT code at collegeboard site for sending the score.
will the score reach to DASA timely before 12th June or I should also use the rush report facility once the score becomes available on 8th June.
which option is better (rush report or free score report)?
Thanks and best regards,
I don’t think even CollegeBoard will give any guarantee that May scores will reach by 12th June. Remember that for similar reasons, May scores were not accepted under DASA for first three round last year.
Choose rush report as it gives more peace of mind comparatively. You have to keep your fingers crossed. In worst case, prepare to participate from 4th round onwards.
Hi Raj/others in the group
I have made payment by credit card and got the message it is successful. I went ahead and submitted the application. But DASA officials state their payment is not received. Now the application is locked. How do I make the payment? Has anyone else faced such a situation ? Please guide.
We are already in touch with DASA officials & bank used for payment.
Same here ..
In my case it has reached other canara bank branch instead of nagpur branch, therefore its showing pending in verification.
Any help and guidance on this is appreciated.
Dear Raj,
I have got acknowledgement of my payment to DASA. I have uploaded all the required documents. As of now my form is ready in all respects (I have sent the scores also, accordingly I have entered the available scores in the form).
should I submit the form now or wait for 8th June result and then submit the form (so that I can update the form with new score and then submit it)?
regards,
I have already advised to complete the formality at the earliest if you are ready; without waiting for 8 June (refer reasoning in previous response). Since this question is getting repetitive, no more questions on this please.
Hi Raj;
I recently inquired about the eligibiilty of NRI student studied in CBSE school(abroad) seeking admission in Government engineering college(Gujarat) or in Nirma on AIR basis(already appeared in JEE Main).
They mentioned we can neither apply in Government engineering college and not allowed to appear for GUJCET and also can not apply based on AIR for the 50% seats available on AIR basis.
If this is true, why our government ignores that they have restricted admission in NIT through DASA by including few restriction on Admission critera( residential (5years),score of 1800)
If being citizen of india, if my children has to apply is this true what they have mentioned or they have wrong interpretation?
Are we not eligible even for 50% seats available on AIR basis?
Through JEE-Mains, there are more than 60 institutes to choose for admission. While, I really do not track state-level colleges, Nirma is a private college so we can’t blame it for not taking NRIs thru AIR (they have their own NRI seats to fill!)
