DASA 2019 announcement is due now anytime. In the past, DASA scheme announcements have been made between 15 Dec to 7 Feb. Therefore, it is fair to expect the announcement sometime in mid-January. I do not expect much changes in DASA 2019 rules from last year considering this is an election year and no government wishes to tweak things. The current govt is anyways considered pro-NRIs. So stay calm and just focus on your SAT2 scores and board exams.

Note: Above is the List of Main Institutes Under DASA Scheme |
DASA Scheme for year 2017 – 2018 has seen more changes per below:
1) CIWG fee has been reduced to Rs125000 per year.
2) New applicants who had not applied by 12 June can now apply until 22 June 2017. New applicants are advised to send the SAT scores to VNIT (Institute code:7035) by the RUSH mechanism only.
Previously, DASA 2017 had relaxed residential requirement to 2 YEARS, i.e. 11 &12th from overseas for NRIs (was 5 years out of 8 years). Moreover, minimum SAT2 score requirement was fixed as 1800.
The below posts have ranking of colleges by branch, choice filling strategies, general information about DASA scheme and relative ranking of NITs/IIITs by JEE-Main candidates..
DASA Scheme- Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Ranking of Engineering Institutes Revealed !
Note: Considering that DASA result would be out on 30 June, I feel there is no purpose responding to queries relating to “tell if I can get ABC seat with given SAT score”. Please do not write such queries as the same will not be published.
Can I get an Upgrade Seat in Round 2?
I am receiving a lot of queries asking if I can get an upgrade seat. On this I could only provide general guidance based on last years’ experience (last year the cut-off really didn’t drop by even 10 points in top7-8 colleges). In case someone has better idea on this, I would publish that here:
Round 1 Cut-off -> Expected SAT2 Score Drop in cutoff
>2350 -> 0-10
2300-2350 -> 0-20
2200-2290 -> 0-30
2000-2190 -> 0-40
<2000 -> 0-60
As far as Internal Sliding is concerned, no one can predict that- so my request is not to rely on that stroke of luck as one of your main option. As earlier noted, I would be deleting all queries relating to internal sliding as it is not worth deliberating/ arriving at probabilities etc. 6 June As the result of DASA 2016 draws closer, I take this opportunity to wish You All the Best for Your Future Career. Students please keep in mind that this is just a start of the long road ahead- success of which depends solely on the individual students. My heart pains when I hear real stories of students diverting their focus on ‘other stuff’ and repeating years in college and wasting hard-earned money of their parents. Success comes only to those who believe in themselves and are prepared to win. Forget about quitting, And think only about winning. Keep running no matter what. Belief and courage is all you need. Go ahead and do it, I bet you‘ll be the winner. Best of luck to you! ——- DASA Scheme 2016-17 application portal is open from 1st April. DASA Scheme 2016-17 updated Brochure and seat matrix are also available. The major change in DASA scheme for 2016-17 is allocation of 1/3 seats for Gulf NRIs (CIWG) and resident Indian fee ($700 per semester) is applicable for these seats. For non-CIWG seats, the applicable fee of $4000 per sem is applicable. I request candidates to read DASA 2016 Brochure and DASA Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) at below links prior to asking questions on this blog: DASA 2016 Brochure DASA FAQ DASA 2015 Round-1-to4-Cutoff Note: Please note that the Gulf NRIs have two options in DASA Admission Portal: 1) Apply only for CIWG Seats 2) Apply for both CIWG and Normal seats. Choose the option per your preference. Note:
- SAT2 scores of May are expected to be out by mid-June as per CollegeBoard. As per DASA rules, scores received until 1 June shall be considered for Round 1 to 3. Therefore, scores of May exam can only be considered for Round 4 and Spot.
- The best scores of PCM shall be considered by DASA. Please note that it is not necessary that all 3 subjects are given in a single day. Even if all 3 subject tests tests are given in a single day, if a candidate had best score in Maths in Oct, Phy in Nov and Chemistry in Dec, all the best scores from Oct, Nov & Dec shall be considered together by DASA.
- Expected cut-off of DASA 2016 is given above for top 15 colleges. For rest of the colleges/branch, please take guidance from last years cut-off here.
3 April 2016
Queries Relating to IIIT-Hyd I have received many emails asking for comparison of various NITs with IIIT-Hyd. Kindly note that I cannot reply each query relating to comparison of different NITs with IIITH. In this regard, please note my following personal views:
- Non-CIWG Candidates: IIITH CSE is better than all colleges under DASA scheme. If you have score of 2370 onwards- you can hope to get CSE branch this year.
- I do not suggest any branch other than CSE in IIITH (CLD, ECE etc. etc.). If you have done some research on these 5 year-branches then , please go ahead (I respect your views but please respect my right to have different position in this regard and do not ask repeatedly same question if XYZ NIT is better than IIITH-CLD/XYZ)
- Those students who have scored less than 2300 in SAT and somehow hoping to get into IIIT-Hyd CLD/CND/XYZ); please note: the academic pressure and demand in IIIT-Hyd is very high and students below 2300 score typically would find extremely difficult to survive. This fact is very difficult to explain to parents since as parents we naturally over-estimate the capabilities of our wards.
- CIWG Candidates: If you get into NITK, DTU, NITT, IIITD, NITW, NSIT please save your $$$$ and choose DASANIT over IIITH. Obviously, if you are financially well-off and do not care much about $$$$, you really don’t need any advice what to choose- IIITH is a good option. If you can’t get into these NITs, you probably cannot get into IIITH- so the comparison is even not required.
My apologies for being straight forward and blunt. Sometimes this is the only way to put the message across. 4 April 2016 Institute Tier-wise Ranking My suggested preferences for CSE, Mech and ECE (each category below for CSE has big gap between them; the college that first appears in the same category is marginally better): CSE 1) IIIT-Hyd 2) DTU=NITK=NITT=NITW=IIIT-D=NSIT (choose anyone depending on convenience) 3) NIT Calicut=MNNIT (choose anyone depending on convenience) 4) MNIT=NIT-Delhi=VNIT=SVNIT=PEC=IIIT-A Mech: 1) DTU 2) NITT=NITK=NITW 3) MNNIT=NITC 4) MNIT=SVNIT=PEC ECE 1) NITK=NITT=NITW=IIIT-Hyd=IIIT-Delhi 2) IIIT-A= VNIT=MNNIT=NITC=DCE=NSIT=NITD 3) MANIT=MNIT=SVNIT Other Branches: Please choose in the order of SAT2 Cut-off score for 2015-16 provided in below tables (higher SAT 2 cut-off being better institute). Generally- NITK=DTU=NITT=NITW NSIT=NITC=MNNIT=NITD MNIT=VNIT=SVNIT=PEC Choice Filling: Normal(Non-CIWG) 1) Apply for 1/3 options (say 1-10th choice out of your total 30 (assumed)) for colleges/branches that look slightly difficult to get. There is obviously no need for colleges/branches that had cut-off of 2400 and if your score is 2250. 2) Apply for middle 1/3 options (say 11-20th ) for colleges/branches where you could just about get the seat last year or you are expected to get seat this year. 3) Apply for last 1/3 options (say 21-30th ) for colleges/branches where you could very easily get the seat last year or you are expected to get easily this year. Please understand the importance of these last choices just like top/middle choices. There were occasions in previous years where the cut-off suddenly jumped by 40-50 points. Students who had not planned for this eventuality/didn’t apply for lower tier colleges were not allotted any institute because of very few choices given by them on the portal. I strongly suggest to utilize as many choices as possible. CIWG Candidates Choice filling for both CIWG and Normal seats would be very personal affair. This involves the financial background of the person, the amount of love towards money or quality etc etc. However, examples could be given, say for CSE (just example, do not treat it as my personal preference- I really wish all to think about their own background and choose- there are no good templates) Choice 1-9: CIWG CSE: DTU, NITK, NITT, NITW, IIITD, NSIT, NITK-IT, DTU-IT, DTU-SE (hypothetical reasoning: I am a north Indian and say my child has reservations to go to NITC) Choice 10-14: Normal CSE: DTU, NITK, NITT, NITW, IIITD (Suppose I want SVNIT/VNIT/MNNIT-CIWG better than NSIT-normal, So NSIT not included) Choice 15-21: CIWG CSE: VNIT, SVNIT, MNNIT,MNIT, NITD, PEC, IIIT-A Choice 22-29 Normal: NSIT, VNIT, SVNIT, MNNIT,MNIT, NITD, PEC, IIIT-A Choice 30-36: CIWG CSE:NIT-Dgp, NIT-Rk, NIT-H,NIT-Kuru, NIT-Jal, MANIT, NIT-Goa 4th Round Expectations
- DASA do not publish seat matrix of what can be available in the 4th round. Therefore, please do not ask what would be available in the 4th round.
- Generally, top branches (CSE, ECE, Mech, IT) in top 15 colleges are not available. But some exception do happen every year that cannot be predicted.
- Generally, low demand branches (Biotech, Arch, electrical, civil, metallurgy, Prodn) in top 15 colleges could be available.
- Top branches (CSE, ECE, Mech, IT) could be available in lower ranking institutes.
- It can be expected that the cut-off for the 4th round could go higher by 20-30 points only (vs 3rd round) as the result of May SAT2 score would also be considered for this round.
Just to provide a flavor of what could be expected in this round, I am providing what was available in the Spot Round of 2015 (again refer to bullet point no. 1 above, DASA do not publish seat matrix for the 4th round). Spot Round Seat Availability in 2015 DASA-2015-Cutoff-Round-1.pdf 11 April 2015 IIIT-Hyderabad DASA Announcement For 2015, IIIT -Hyd have split DASA seats by disciplines. Only 20 seats for CSE for 2015 (vs a total of 30 seats in 2014), so expecting cutoff around 2380-2400 for CSE. The fee revised to USD 12k per annum (from $11 K). For ECE, 10 seats allocated for DASA. Expecting ECE cut-off between 2200-2300 9 April 2015 DASA Scheme brochure has been updated as on date and is available at below link. NSIT Delhi has been added as new institute this year. It is a good addition for north Indians interested in CSE/ECE who can now choose this college as the cut-off is expected to be lower than NIT K and DTU, being first time entry under DASA scheme. https://www.dasanit.org/dasa2015/documents/DASA%20UG%202015%20brochure%206apr.pdf 25 November 2014 For the academic year 2015-16, DASA scheme would be administered by Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT) Jaipur. I sincerely hope that DASA scheme is efficiently executed just like NITK, who had really done FANTASTIC job for last 6-7 years and have set very high standards in responding to candidates genuine concerns. Hats off to NITK admin who were pretty active on social media (I happened to receive quite a few email from NITK concerned in-charge in initial years to popularize the scheme and share the details with NRI community). More details to follow. 5 July 2014 Fourth Round of Cut-off for DASA Scheme 2014 – 2015 has been declared today DASA2014_SATCutoff_Round4_Allotment 30 June 2014 Third Round Cut-off for DASA Scheme 2014-15 DASA2014_SAT Cutoff_Round3_Allotment 7 June 2014 DASA Scheme 2014-15 Allotment List- 1st Round has been declared. Congratulations to all who got their dream institutes in the 1st Round. Following are the key takeaways from allotment 1) Phenomenal rise of CSE branch this year. It is first time in DASA Scheme that allotment Cut-off is 2400/2400. 2) DTU emerged the top college in DASA Scheme 2014-15 for CSE as DTU CSE seats finished before NITK-CSE. DTU has huge reputation for good placements as best of the companies visit there (and hire students). 2) Out of first 20 toppers, 8 selected DTU, 7 NITK, 3 NITT and one each for MNNIT and NITW. 3) IIIT-Delhi made a big bang entry into top DASA institute club. The institute has the potential to be the top DASA institute in a few years time.

GIVES ROUND 2 CUT OFF
2nd round allotment is announced. Candidates can check by logging in.
Hello
I have seen the students enrolling via the DASA scheme and having less income(l<$2000 pa) are allowed to pay only 50% fees. ($2000+$300) I have seen many of my seniors paying less fees. Is there any way i can go about it?
Thank you!
You would have to check under which category you are getting the seat and refer to DASA Brochure. CIWG and SAARC candidates pay less fee while all other NRIs pay full fee. There is no other category/ scheme/scholarship/trick etc to get lower fees under DASA.
Hey
I have gotten DTU ECE(cutoff was 2290) and hope to upgrade to NSIT IT/DTU IT (cutoff for both is 2330). What shall be my chances of getting NSIT IT/DTU IT? My score is 2310.
Thank you.
Keep your fingers crossed. There really is no way of predicting such drop in cut-off. A matter of few hours now.
Maybe , luck can favour you in R-3.In R-2, the scores have gone up instead of going down.

Now time for NITK :p
Hi, all I am Mohammed, final year CSE student in NITK. Do contact me in case you need any help around.
mokha3833@gmail.com
Always happy to help. 🙂
Sir will they release a seat matrix for DASA left over vacant seats for round 3?
Please address this to DASA officials as only they know what they plan to do. In the past, I am only aware about vacant seats availability in Spot Round. But asking DASA doesn’t hurt.

Proud of you Srikanth and Anirudh, students like you coming forward to help freshmen students reinforces the faith we have in modern day youth. Best wishes to all who will be joining NIT W
A. this year even those in CIWG category still opted for NRI category because of the number of seats etc and it was categorical: either CIWG or NRI and the allocation mechanism was not "either or" last year (Raj sir, correct me if I am wrong)
B. Round 1 -DTU Biotechnology CIWG category 2160 Non CIWG category 2180(CIWG lower cut off and non ciwg higher cut off)
C. Had the non ciwg( if he/she actually belonged to ciwg and still) in the above example had taken the category simply because of number of seats, how does one conclude about the system: "Luck favours the bold?" " policy precedes .."?
Reply
A. You are correct. This year, CIWG could only choose one category (unlike last year when both categories could be chosen by CIWG candidates.
B. Noted
C. Such abnormal data is expected for the seats that doesn’t see much competition. My gold standard for comparison is CSE/ECE/Mech seats for top colleges where there is good competition and generally CIWG cut-off is equal or greater than non-CIWG seats.
Really appreciate your patience to answer so many queries Raj sir.
Sir, if person X gets higher preference seat in round 2, then the seat alloted to X in earlier round will be vacant and given to another person Y in round 2 ?
I am not sure whether it works this way, kindly please shed some light on this.
You are right. One person will have only one seat at any point of time.
Has anyone got the admission in Delhi Technological University (DTU)?. Please let me know as my son has got DTU as well. We are from Muscat. My email ID is syed1967@gmail.com and my mobile number is 00968-99368507. Thanks.
Dear Raj Sir,
If a child is allocated a seat in R-1 but of his lower choice and he clicks "ACCEPT & UPGRADE" then he enters R-2 & if there is no improvement for him , will he get a chance to go to R-3 ? Whta he has to do in that case? Kindly advise.Regards.
Please refer to page 3 of DASA’s Revised Seat Allotment Procedure which is quite detailed. Basically, you can enter Round 3 with same choices or with new choice (it requires admin fee payment). In nutshell, please read DASA Seat Allotment procedure and if there is any doubt, you can ask here.
Sir after allotment what is the next step sir ? Is there chance of lose of seat sir ?
If you have accepted the seat, print the Allotment Letter and report to the institute as per DASA schedule. On reporting, they will check all documents and if all ok, study well and do well in your B Tech.
Did anyone get a seat in NIT-W? Please let me know!
Yes my son secured seat in ciwg in round 1 with ECE
Hi,

Hi Anirudh,
my son has got nitw mech. give me ur email. My email is sanju05mar@gmail.com
Sir.
One last question,
since, I have accepted my seat for a ciwg seat, when will I be getting back the rest of my cash which I had paid earlier (4300)
For refund timing you would have to contact DASA. Generally, it gets focus after all admissions are done (Oct?)
Even there is a possibility that DASA /institute where you got admission ,may suggest students that let the money be there in the respective institute and that can get adjusted in second semester fee.
Dear Raj Sir, In R-1 we have clicked "accept and upgrade'' because we did not get the institute of our choice. After going extensively to the seat allocation mecanism recently update at dasa site, I wish to clerify from you the following":—
For R-2 there are two MAJOR ZONES explained as ,
1) Applicants who are ALLOTED a seat in R-2 would have four options……
2) Applicants who are NOT ALLOTED seat in R-2 but would like to participate in R-3 would have four options……….
My question is If my child still does not get the better option as per our choices filled .He still stays at the same place as he was in R-1 then FROM ABOVE TWO MAJOR ZONES , IN WHICH ZONE I WILL FALL ? Your inputs will clear my thinking more. Kindly explain me for my knowledge.
As far as DASA is concerned, you have been ALLOTTED a seat from one of your choice based on SAT2 score.
Dear Sir,
My son is going into 10th standard, so it is a little early to put this question to you. However would like to know the following –
1) Son is in CBSE X in Bangalore.
2) He is a OCI and a UK citizen
Is he eligible for admissions under DASA scheme? If yes what is the best way to apply for NIIT seats in the manner described above by other lucky parents?
Please advice.
Regards
Balkrishna Menon
It is very good to know that you are thinking ahead for your son’s educational options. For OCI holders, they are eligible for DASA scheme even if they are studying in India. You would need to apply on DASANIT website in April 2020 (basically after he has given 12th CBSE exam). At this stage, we are assuming that this scheme will continue (though I am doubtful that it will continue considering NIT Directors report against it. This time HRD Minister had overruled this report but not too sure until when he can continue this. Moreover, there is no apparent support from NRI community to the honourable HRD Minister.)
Raj sir: is there a link to read the report of NIT directors??
Yesterday, I posted the relevant part of the document on my twitter handle (@rajktyagi).
Thank you, saw the report. Not clear, whether it is based on specific data or a 'common observation'.
Raj,
Thanks for sharing the news relating to the future of the DASA scheme under evaluation. As a parent of a child in class XII this year, this is quite concerning. From the MOM of the meeting in May, it appears that the committee tasked to provide inputs to the HRD ministry will submit the report by December. That would leave no time for parents to make alternate arrangements for their kids. Do you believe that without an alternative for the NRI kids completing class XII in 2018, the HRD ministry would do away with this scheme in one go rather than giving a 1-2 year heads-up ? Would they recommend the option of raising the minimum SAT2 scores instead ? Any thoughts from you on this ?
I suggest to other such parents that we collectively reach out to the HRD minister and petition for the DASA scheme to be continued.
Regards
Srini
It would be better that applicants targetting 2018 be vigilant on this. My request to 2017 applicants to atleast say ‘thank you’ to HRD ministry drew a ‘massive’ support from three persons on social media. My role here on this forum is to provide information & provide platform for discussions and not be a ‘vigilante’ myself as I have no personal interest in this matter.
On the oneside the question remains whether a larger Government policy decision can be brought to rest by an executive decision(irrespective of whether it relates to income limits or other factors)? on the other hand, more important, is that the concern of the members will have to be taken in the right spirit to prepare the children to take up challenges. In their collective wisdom and experience, institution leaders and Professors will be able to draw measures so that there is seamless integration of the children.
Raj,
Thanks for the response. I posted that message here to get the attention of 2018 aspirants as this is the only portal/platform available to reach out to DASA applicants. It is unfortunate that only two applicants of 2017 DASA scheme have acknowledge or thanked the minister. Though my child is not a 2017 applicant, I too retweeted your original message thanking HRD ministry and VNIT.
Yes, the 2018 applicants need to stay plugged and top of this. I am hoping other parents will respond to my post and get in touch with me so that we can petition of continuation of the DASA scheme to the HRD minister in the near future. If any parent of a future DASA aspirant is reading this message, please share your email contact for me to connect with you. Thank you.
i have already thanked in raj (even though i didn't get seats from dasa !!!}
Dear Srini,
Count me in for DASA 2018, let us show our interest for the contiuity of DASA in the forthcoming years.
Regards
Dear Sir,
First of all a big thank you for your reply clarifying OCI is eligible for DASA. I was thinking that as my son will apply only in 2020 – I might not elicit a response to my query.
However was disappointed to hear that this scheme might be discontinued in the near future. Couple of question for you which arise from above scenario –
1) What is the best way to reach out to the HRD minister to voice our concern to not scrap this process? Is there is email id / address where we can register our voice?
2) I know this question is entirely out of your jurisdiction – what are the good institute in India which you might have heard or come accross which offer good SAT coaching ( I appreciate that you might be residing out of India and might not be knowing – but I thought it is well worth asking you)
regards
Balkrishna Menon
1) I suggest that time is not right to go on overdrive/petitions as the scheme is not scrapped. Though, keep watching this space periodically. For time being, keep saying ‘Thank You’ for the scheme on twitter as has been previously suggested. The below link would be useful for future petitions:
http://mhrd.gov.in/whos-who
2) Keep preparing for JEE-Main as no preparation company is worth its name for SAT2.
It is very heartening that a large no. of applicants appreciated VNIT, HRD Ministry etc on Twitter on how well the scheme was managed. Infact a toal of 2 (two) persons (Mr Shreekumar Nair and Mr nathanragu ) felt the need to appreciate something good that happens rarely in life. This attitude of NRIs to take everything for granted is one of the reasons NIT Directors are against this scheme (and may be discontinued next year). We are pretty good in protesting when something bad happens.
As a way small tribute to VNIT contribution, I would be publishing comments/queries (until 3 July) from only those who have done the same on Twitter (use hashtag #DASA and copy @HRDMinistry and @PrakashJavdekar; you can write your own tweet; if you can’t write a tweet, retweet #DASA tweet from my handle @rajktyagi).
With respect to DASA scheme, if this is not "Achhe Din", they will never come.
Dear Raj,
I have been following your blog for last one year and happy to say that you are doing a great service to the NRI community. Thank you very much for your valuable guidances and excellent suggestions.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the officials at VNIT and Ministry of HRD for the manner they handled DASA 2017 admission. They were ready to listen to the grievances of NRIs and took appropriate action on time. Especially Dr Yogesh, Dr Pramod and other VNIT officials were really helpful listening to the complaints and taking swift actions accordingly. Thanks to all.
I am krishna and my daughter got into IIIT Delhi (CSE). I would like to get in touch with any other girl who got into IIIT Delhi. My email address is venky.reddy09@gmail.com
Thanks Mr.Raj ,this blog was really helpful.
Dear Raj,
Can you please give your opinion on the following:
is NITK (chemical) is better than NITW (mechanical) ? My son has got NITW (mechanical) in the 1st round. He may get NITK (chemical) if we apply for upgrade. He can choose any of the two branches. we belong to north so any way both places are away from our home town. Should we apply for upgarde? interestwise he has slightly more inclination towards mechanical (but is still not a boundation).
Thanks and Best regards,
Already replied a similar question (look at the response at 3.47am today.)
Hello sir,
I am a student from NITW. NITW-mechanical is a very good branch to choose. The placement opportunities are top-notch, the faculty is very approachable and knowledgable as well. I cannot speak for NITK-Chemical, but NITW-mechanical will be a very good choice.
Dear Raj sir,
Thank you so much for your timely advise on various issues pertaining to DASA scheme. My son with 2400 score got in to IIIT Delhi, Computer Science and Design. This particular branch is introduced only this year and there is only one seat under DASA that too in non-CIWG category. This branch has courses ranging from Animation, Special Effects, Game Design, VFX, Sound Engineering, Video Editing etc apart from regular Computer courses. Any thoughts as to how this branch and its future prospects will be? Thanks
I don’t have much idea about this branch. I can only say thet a typical IT company based in India would not have much interest in additional facets of this course. However, IIITD being a good choice for CS degree, it should all be fine.
Dear Sir,
I aim to get admission in SVNIT(CE) with Round 1 cutoff 2310.
I have scored 2270 and have opted for CIWG category.
Is it possible that the score drops to 2270 from 2310 in 2nd or 3rd Round? What is your view?
Please refer to last year’s trend/ cut-off drop at this link.. There is much more info on this blog with respect to Cut-off for 2nd Round/3rd Round etc. for various years. I really don’t think there is any value in speculating such drop numbers since each year the pool of applicants have different demand/supply variables.
Dear Raj,
thank u very much for your continuous guidance for last few months. I asked so many times repeated questions but you kept patience with it fully realising the psyche of anxious parents. I wish this blog to continue for coming years too so as to benefit future naive aspirants.
hopefully this will be my last query to you.
my son has got nitw in mechanical @ SAT score of 2220 in first round. It was ours fourth choice under nri category.
Please advise should we select upgrade? We may get nitk chemical in 2nd round. My son is equally in interested in both branches (but slightly interested more towards mechanical). placewise nitk is better than nitw. should place be criterion in selecting the institute. I belong to north india so both places are any way far from my home town.
thanks and best regards,
Sanjay
Considering that top 3 NITs are at the same level, I would then choose higher Branch. I have no doubt in my mind that a Mech degree opens more avenues than a Chem degree. For this you would have to see the cut-off for the two branches in JEE-Main (the answer has nothing to do with me being a Mech engineer!).
Dear Raj
Thank you so much for your valuable guidance.
My daughter has got ECE in NIT Calicut CIWG. We are happy. We didn't expect this as her score is only 2260 and last year's cut off was in 2300 range. However this is our 7th choice as we wanted ECE or EEE in top three NITs (NITT, NITK, NITW). She is equally interested in ECE and EEE. Since the cut off for EEE in NITW is only 2270 and it is a higher option, do you think she might get allotted the seat in the second round? But if we do get, we would have to forfeit the Calicut seat. We are in a dilemma as to click upgrade or not.
Please advice us on whether ECE NITC is better or EEE NITW is better.
Thank you once again
Regards
If you treat both ECE and EEE, I would suggest to do it from a more reputed college like NITW.
The reputation of the top 3 NITs (NITT, NITK, NITW) is in a different league all together and can’t be compared equally with next 3 NITs. Most of our dilemma in such matters is because of lack of some relevant info. Since you have to take this individual decision, get more info from internet and get convinced before taking the decision. 10 years later you should not repent that you took a decision based on a Blog- your conviction in the decision is very important. You can talk to people who have done engineering from these colleges and things like that.
Thank you for your quick response.
After researching more, our daughter is interested more in ECE than the EEE syllabus in Warangal. Therefore, we have decided to weigh the branch over college and accept ECE NITC.
Your blog has been very helpful for us. Thank you and hope we made the right decision. Hope you continue this great help to the NRI community.
Anyone joining NIT Calicut, please contact us @nathanrag@gmail.com, we would like to connect.
I am Syed from Muscat. My son has got the admission in DTU Delhi for EE. Would be interested to know if anyone has got admission in DTU. My email ID is syed1967@gmail.com and my mobile number is 00968-99368507.
Can I take a year gap and still apply for IIIT Hyderabad for CSE? Or for CSE at NIT Trichy? Is a year gap fine? I have 5 years of education in GISS Malaysia.
Thanks and regards,
Zubin
Gap year is fine for DASA scheme.
Did you apply under DASA this year? What was your score? I would like to caution you before you drop a year that improving your SAT2 score below 2300 to 2400 is quite difficult (esspecially when 2300 has been scored after 2-3 attempts). Moreover, there is no 100% guarantee that DASA would continue next year since NIT Directors have been against it for some time.
Sir I got 1980 after 3 tries but I aimed for University of Michigan and had got the SAT 1 score as well. Now I won't be able to afford as my dad has lost his job and we have no savings. All this has happened so quickly I don't know what to say. Currently I didn't get anything in DASA had put some Northern NITs as well… I thought a year gap might help me to get improvement in SAT 2 so was thinking about it. I would stay with my uncle in Abu Dhabhi and join Meccademia will it help me? Or can you suggest some good coaching centres? Need your advice thanks.
My honest advice to you would be change your preferences in Round 3 and start your BTech this year. I have not seen student improving their marks beyond 100 points in SAT2 (out of 2400; especially after 3 attempts) and that would still leave you in a similar situation next year.
With right choices, you can even get a CIWG seat this year. For this no one need to train you, just look at the cut-off of the colleges available and apply for the branches/colleges that have lower cut-off than your SAT2 score. There are many CIWG branches that had no takers in some colleges (search in the seat matrix and then the cut-off list).
This is what I would have suggested to my daughter. Taper down your expectations from life matching with your realistic skills and you could still lead a good life.
Sir I cannot apply for CIWG as I have studied in Malaysia. My dad is searching for job here in Abu Dhabi so I am ready to join and work hard in any good coaching centre. I didn't study much for SAT2 as I already have a good score in SAT1 and thought of only University of Michigan. I gave SAT2 just like simply. I am ready to work very hard and give many more tries. Also if I apply I won't get CSE anywhere other than NIT Patna and NIT Jamshedpur. I don't think they are good . I am ready to give everything into the cause and get the perfect score. At the same time if I take a year break I will surely try for IIIT Hyderabad and if things go well I pray I get full and I already have 1440 SAT1 score. I am May 2000 born sir. What do you think sir what should I do? Should I go for CSE at NIT Patna/Jamshedpur or take a year gap?
Looking at your SAT1 scores (which is like 95 percentile), you can do good in SAT2. You can score 2300 score with some hardwork. I have seen students who score SAT2 2400 generally score above 1500 in SAT1.
However, keep in mind that there are clouds on DASA scheme for next year.
Sure thing sir do bless me that I am able to score well and get 2400. I will give everything into the cause and if you think I should improve my SAT1 score also then I will surely do it so that I won't miss oppurtunity for an Institute like IIIT. I am planning to crack each SAT subject one by one as one of my Dad's colleague son had done it back in 2016. Also if DASA scheme is at a risk max of the SAT courses are till December and if by December I have 2400 and SAT1 score of 1500 I will also join JEE coaching crash course. Advice me sir if what I am planning is correct or not.
Really thankful for your support and your blog is really amazing.
In life’s larger scheme of things, one year is nothing- provided one sincerely utilises the opportunity and understand value of time. You just have to promise to yourself, and rest will follow.
My best wishes are with you. God bless you.
Dear Zubin, Be careful as Raj Sir is rightly advising. If possible try to grab the best possible btanch with your score.
will the cutoffs for pec chandigarh for cse decrease from 2070?
Dear Mr Raj
Thanks for your valuable advice.
My Son got IIIT Delhi – CSE 3rd choice. His first choice is NIT Suratkal -CSE & Second one is NIT Trichi CSE. I have not accepted till now need your valuable suggestion his score is 2400, DOB is April 2000 .What is the change he will get NIT-K CSE. Pl elaborte your view interm of getting suratkal or trichi based on his DOB. your suggestion is valuable for our decission making as our priority if NIT-K or other wise current IIIT delhi CSE is acceptable to us.
Regards
VIshal
I suggest that you “Accept and Upgrade” as you still retain what you have got. DOB cut-off is never published and moreover, it really is quite different applicant pool each year. If you are NRI candidate, you have some chance to upgrade. For CIWG applicant with this DOB, upgrade chance would be <10%.
Vishalji: you may have read note by Raj sir on IIIT Delhi- by the time your son finishes it will become tough to get into IIIT Delhi- will c u there
I agree. I have no doubt if a college have a Director like Pankaj Jalote and professors like Dheeraj Sanghi that it will only grow in reputation.
Vishalji: did u c any change in R2?
I suggest that all those who feel good about the way DASA Scheme was managed this year, please express your appreciation and feelings, especially on Twitter, tagging HRD ministry, VNIT and the person who was most helpful to you. CIWG applicants may also thank HRD Mininstry (
@HRDMinistry) and@PrakashJavdekar for timely resolution of the fee. You may also like or re-tweet my tweet on this ( handle @rajktyagi or search #DASA)MANIT BHOPAL
Dear sir,
Thank you so much for your help. Been scouring your site for information since March of this year. Its been a useful repositary of information and has been really helpful.
I got CSE at MANIT(CIWG) with a score of 2090. Thank you so much for your help. Its 9th on my list and everything above it is CSE and I would be happy with any of those choices including the one I got right now.
CONTACT: @siddharthpandalai990@gmail.com
Anyone who has been alloted MANIT, please contact me. We could connect and find out more.
Raj
You have been great hep in putting us through the right path. My daughter got only 1 month to prepare for SAT II and she got 1900. applied as NRI. We have had stretch goals like IIIT D, VNIT, MNIT CSE/ECE so she didn't get any allotment in round 1. In the meantime, we got seat in anna university guindy.
Let us see how the situation unfolds in round 2 and round 3. not very hopeful. closest cut off we could have got is rourkela CSE and MNNIT IT. Any way no regrets. We are in good place for now.
you are an awesome solution provider
Raj
Two doubts. why is that i see generally CIWG cut off is low in most of the colleges. from this cut off is it possible how many seats are left open if any. or should i assume that all seats are filled in
Every year only about 1000 seats are filled-up out of 2000+ seats. This year the no. of filled seats appear to be lower since many lower branches are not even listed in the cut-off list (beyond top 3-4 top NITs). You would be able to see the vacant seats during Round 3 choice filling.
Dear Raj,
I thank you for all your guidance, and your patience to reply our queries (eventhough questions were repeated at times). This blog is very effective platform to share our thoughts and experiences.
For information my son got NITK CSE with 2400 SAT2 score under NRI category. His DoB is in June 1999.
Congrats
Dear Mr. Raj
I dont have words to thank you for the efforts you put in resolving endless queries. We really appreciate you support.
My daughter secured NITW in CSE (2360), with a bit of surprise. We were hoping for dehli region. If you look at the cutoff list, DTU is 2370 (NRI category). Do we stand a chance in 2nd and 3rd round ?
Congratulations to you and all who have been updating about their seats.
The change in cut-off from 1st to 2nd Round is almost static (i.e. no change) based on past year’s data. However, since you are just 10 points away, keep your fingers crossed and pray.
Hello Sir,
If you have any questions about NIT-W and would like to more about the college,
please contact me at ani.kolla96@gmail.com.
I will be happy to prove more insight about the college.
My daughter got at NITK Suratkal in EEE . NRI category with SAT 2290
Thanks for the blog

First round cut off scores released at DASA websitehttps://www.dasanit.org/dasa2017/documents/Cuttoff_R1.pdf
Why is there a significant increase in iiit delhi ec nri cutoff. I was hoping to get there but there has been a massive increase from previous years
Two reaons: more demand from applicants thinking like you and secondly IIITD reputation growing on the back of excellent faculty.
I am Amit Gupta from Muscat.

would be interested to get in touch with parents who have been allotted Jaipur.

Thank you so much sir. I got into NIT TRICHY Production eng (CiWG). Your blog has been So helpful.
Dear Mr. Raj.
Thanks for your support and dedication. My son got first choice. E & C in NIT Trichi.under ciwg. His sat score was 2400 and DOB Jan. 2000.. I am from Saudi Arabia..
Dear Mr. Raj,
My son has got the allotment in DTU (Electrical Engg). Thanks for your guidance.
Dear All,
Has anyone got allotment in DTU?. Please let me know so that we can connect ourselves, since my son has got EE in DTU. We are from Muscat.
Regards Syed
Dear Mr. Raj,
DASA has already executed round 1. For my son, it is suprising outcome. Our first priority was SVNIT(CE),NITK(CSE),NITT(CSE),NITW(CSE),SVNIT(Mech). We opted for CIWG category with 2270 score and we received confirmation for NITW. Last year cutoff for NITW was 2400 for CIWG and NRI category. We consider this as pleasant surprise with 2270 score. What is your view ?
Looking forward to your valuable suggestion.
It is so surprising that you should check your allotment details, category (NRI/CIWG), allotted branch Suggest you repost your SAT2 scores, category (NRI/CIWG), allotted branch/college so that other applicants could confirm your observations.
you should check your application again as far as i can see NITW CSE cutoff score is 2400
Hi Sir, Thank you for all the advice you have tirelessly posted on this site. Helped me quite a lot.
Extremely happy to get CSE at NIT Trichy under CIWG category. Congrats to everyone who were allotted as well.
For anyone interested, I got 2400 in SAT2 and my DOB falls in Nov 1998.
Sir , ihave been alloted nit trichy in my first round but idont want that , Sir if i decline will i be alloted to surathkal in round 2 sir ? plese help. My 1st choice was trichy and 2nd was surathkal sir , which is better sir in case od climate and education sir ? surathkal or trichy ? my sat score is 2300 and opting for EEE.
If you decline the allotted seat now, you current seat will be taken away and you will not be part of DASA applicants any longer (say for second round). You will have to re-apply for 3rd Round (with new applucation fee- refer DASA Brochure for details) where there is no guarantee that you will get what you want.
I am curious to know why you have included a preference in the first place that you don’t want?
Can I accept and upgrade Sir? Moreover I want to know the climate of both places surathkal and tricky, which is better ?
Accepting or not accepting is your own individual decision. Do you have any choice if you don’t accept the seat? Can you live with the allotted seat?
Regarding climate, you can check it on Google or sites like https://en.climate-data.org/. In Surathkal it rains most of the year and in Trichy it is hot most of the year (have not lived for long in these places BTW, therefore, Google it).
Dear sir First of all, I would like to thank you from bottom of my heart in giving us timely and most importantly valuable and wisely guidance. My daughter has got her second preference but still very happy. Vineet
Dear sir
First of all, I would like to thank you from bottom of my heart in giving us timely and most importantly valuable and wisely guidance. My son got his 5th preference Production engineering at NIT Trichy I am very happy. His SAT score was 1980. his first four choice were CIVIL NIT Trichy, warangal ,surathkal & calicut.
I have accepted the hoping for Internal sliding since he is interested in civil engineering.
My son has got nitw(mech) nri seat.
Dear Raj
Dasa just declared the result. I am glad to inform that my son got provisional admission letter under CIWG in NIT Trichy for Material Science and Metalaugy as requested.
Thanks for all your guidance
Congratulations.
Raj,
Thank you very much for all the information and this website was very helpfull in the whole admission process. My son with 2350 got his 4th option CSE in Calicut, so clearly the cutoff for the top 3 NITs is higher than this as expected. We are still hopefull for an upgrade as this year some of the kids might opt for IITs although not sure what would be the exact number. Will keep watching the nex two rounds.
Regards,
DASA revised seat allotment procedure.Guys please check DASA web site for the details.
Dear sir,
What exactly has dasa revised in their allotment procedure
thank you
We have to keep in mind that DASA Brochure (dated May 2017) has not been changed, even though few rules have changed since then (e.g. CIWG eligible for CIWG category only, 4th Round has been done away with, vacant CIWG to be filled by NRI category, Spot Round is now being called Special Round etc.). This new circular is actually a way of bringing formality to those changed rules via a circular.
Hi Raj sir
Is IT a good branch at NSIT? It is introduced this year in DASA but is a old branch at NSIT. As it has been introduced this year (after going through seat matrix got to know about it about 4 seats NRI and 2 CIWG seats) I guess not many may even know about it do I have a chance to get it in 1st round with 2240 score?
Thanks and Regards.
NSIT is known for it’s CS and electronics course. IT is almost as good as CSE (90% syllabus is same). However, you have to accept that the JEE-Main ranking of IT students is lower than CSE candidates and everyone including placement companies know this fact. Therefore, you have to be 110% (knowledge, grades etc) of a CSE student to come on equal footing in terms of placement and post-graduation.
Regarding your question on your chances, only few hours are left for the results. All the best.
dear sir,
please advice on the procedure of checking the allotted seats.
thank you
Just log-in on DASA website with your user ID/password and on that page you would find allotment details. It is actually much easier than logging-into your Facebook account and posting your status!
Hi Raj
Tomorrow Dasa Results they will publish only the cut off marks in their site or indvidually students will get email notificaiton
Tomorrow, you would need to log-in your account and see the seat allotment based on your preference (and availability). Usually, the cut-off list is published a day later (can be same day for the efficient DASA officials). If you accept the allotted seat, you could print the Allotment Letter and simply go to the allotted institute (with necessary documents) for admission. Except for the 2400 scorers who have got their top preference, I normally suggest that you choose “Accept and Upgrade” to go in the second round. If no upgrade happens in the Second Round but you can live with your allotted seat, just accept and print your Allotment Letter. In case, you cannot live with your allotment at any cost/ or have changed your mind about the branch/college, then only it is suggested to go for Third Round or Special Round. Refer to DASA Brochure for the actual process.
Contiuation of your comment on "Accept & Upgrade for low scores" Raj. We can wait for Accept & upgrade in 1st round, and can deny admission in round 2 if allotments are not what we expected. Is that right. When the score is low and if you know cut off jumps to 50 to 100 points, wondering what is the way to pull out just in case. I guess we can wait till 2nd round to pull to get 50% . can you please clarify.
The below exerpt from DASA Brochure is self-explanatory. If you accept allotment in First round, ZERO refund (i.e. even if “Accept and Upgrade”). If you reject the allotment, 50% refund.
“b. Applicants, who are allotted any seat as per their choices, and do not accept the allotment (decline or no response within the prescribed time limit), will be allowed a refund of 50% of tuition fee component paid along with the application.
c. Applicants, who accept the seat allotted and later on change their decision, by not joining or applicants who have been provided provisional admission and rejected at the time of admission for want of academic eligibility, will not be considered for any refund of tuition fee component paid along with the application.”
dear sir,
please advice on when(the time) dasa would post the results of the first round.
thank you
There have been some years in the past when results were out at 10am and some years when they were delayed upto 11PM on the due date. However, mean time to publish the results has been between 12-2pm. I think VNIT team is quite efficient (based on feedback on this blog) and, therefore, result by 12 noon or earlier could be expected.
I take this opportunity to wish a good luck to all applicants. Do post about your results/offered seats.
Dear Mr. Raj
Unlike last year, the NRI & CIWG are separte categories this year. We have choosen NRI category despite the fact, we are living in gulf. Do you expect a lower cutoff for NRI category ? My daughter is having 2360 SAT scores, can we expect NSIT/IIITD (CSE) with such marks.
Regards
I personally know many parents who have applied under NRI category (inspite of being eligible for CIWG). The NRI category cut-off will certainly be less than CIWG category.
Since last couple of years it has been 2400 take all (like winner takes it all) and the score of 2360/2370 despite being very very good score are left with fewer options.
Though I have refrained from prediction till now, but getting IIITD is not possible and you would be lucky to get NSIT CSE with 2360.
