1 January 2019

DASA 2019 announcement is due now anytime. In the past, DASA scheme announcements have been made between 15 Dec to 7 Feb. Therefore, it is fair to expect the announcement sometime in mid-January. I do not expect much changes in DASA 2019 rules from last year considering this is an election year and no government wishes to tweak things. The current govt is anyways considered pro-NRIs. So stay calm and just focus on your SAT2 scores and board exams.

Note: Above is the List of Main Institutes Under DASA Scheme

DASA Scheme for  year 2017 – 2018 has seen more changes per below:

1) CIWG fee has been reduced to Rs125000 per year.

2) New applicants who had not applied by 12 June can now apply until 22 June 2017. New applicants are advised to send the SAT scores to VNIT (Institute code:7035) by the RUSH mechanism only.

Previously, DASA 2017 had relaxed residential requirement to 2 YEARS, i.e. 11 &12th from overseas for NRIs (was 5 years out of 8 years). Moreover, minimum SAT2 score requirement was fixed as 1800.

The below posts have ranking of colleges by branch, choice filling strategies, general information about DASA scheme and relative ranking of NITs/IIITs by JEE-Main candidates..

DASA Scheme- Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Ranking of Engineering Institutes Revealed !

Note: Considering that DASA result would be out on 30 June, I feel there is no purpose responding to queries relating to “tell if I can get ABC seat with given SAT score”. Please do not write such queries as the same will not be published.

Can I get an Upgrade Seat in Round 2?

I am receiving a lot of queries asking if I can get an upgrade seat. On this I could only provide general guidance based on last years’ experience (last year the cut-off really didn’t drop by even 10 points in top7-8 colleges). In case someone has better idea on this, I would publish that here:

Round 1 Cut-off -> Expected SAT2 Score Drop in cutoff

>2350 -> 0-10

2300-2350 -> 0-20

2200-2290 -> 0-30

2000-2190 -> 0-40

<2000 -> 0-60

As far as Internal Sliding is concerned, no one can predict that- so my request is not to rely on that stroke of luck as one of your main option. As earlier noted, I would be deleting all queries relating to internal sliding as it is not worth deliberating/ arriving at probabilities etc. 6 June As the result of DASA 2016 draws closer, I take this opportunity to wish You All the Best for Your Future Career. Students please keep in mind that this is just a start of the long road ahead- success of which depends solely on the individual students. My heart pains when I hear real stories of students diverting their focus on ‘other stuff’ and repeating years in college and wasting hard-earned money of their parents. Success comes only to those who believe in themselves and are prepared to win. Forget about quitting, And think only about winning. Keep running no matter what. Belief and courage is all you need. Go ahead and do it, I bet you‘ll be the winner. Best of luck to you! ——- DASA Scheme 2016-17 application portal is open from 1st April. DASA Scheme 2016-17 updated Brochure and seat matrix are also available. The major change in DASA scheme for 2016-17 is allocation of 1/3 seats for Gulf NRIs (CIWG) and resident Indian fee ($700 per semester) is applicable for these seats. For non-CIWG seats, the applicable fee of $4000 per sem is applicable. I request candidates to read DASA 2016 Brochure and DASA Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) at below links prior to asking questions on this blog: DASA 2016 Brochure DASA FAQ DASA 2015 Round-1-to4-Cutoff Note: Please note that the Gulf NRIs have two options in DASA Admission Portal: 1) Apply only for CIWG Seats 2) Apply for both CIWG and Normal seats. Choose the option per your preference. Note:

  1. SAT2 scores of May are expected to be out by mid-June as per CollegeBoard. As per DASA rules, scores received until 1 June shall be considered for Round 1 to 3. Therefore, scores of May exam can only be considered for Round 4 and Spot.
  2. The best scores of PCM shall be considered by DASA. Please note that it is not necessary that all 3 subjects are given in a single day. Even if all 3 subject tests tests are given in a single day, if a candidate had best score in Maths in Oct, Phy in Nov and Chemistry in Dec, all the best scores  from Oct, Nov & Dec shall be considered together by DASA.
  3. Expected cut-off of DASA 2016 is given above for top 15 colleges. For rest of the colleges/branch, please take guidance from last years cut-off here.

3 April 2016

Queries Relating to IIIT-Hyd I have received many emails asking for comparison of various NITs with IIIT-Hyd. Kindly note that I cannot reply each query relating to comparison of different NITs with IIITH. In this regard, please note my following personal views:

  1. Non-CIWG Candidates: IIITH CSE is better than all colleges under DASA scheme. If you have score of 2370 onwards- you can hope to get CSE branch this year.
  2. I do not suggest any branch other than CSE in IIITH (CLD, ECE etc. etc.). If you have done some research on these 5 year-branches then , please go ahead (I respect your views but please respect my right to have different position in this regard and do not ask repeatedly same question if XYZ NIT is better than IIITH-CLD/XYZ)
  3. Those students who have scored less than 2300 in SAT and somehow hoping to get into IIIT-Hyd CLD/CND/XYZ); please note: the academic pressure and demand in IIIT-Hyd is very high and students below 2300 score typically would find extremely difficult to survive. This fact is very difficult to explain to parents since as parents we naturally over-estimate the capabilities of our wards.
  4. CIWG Candidates: If you get into NITK, DTU, NITT, IIITD, NITW, NSIT please save your $$$$ and choose DASANIT over IIITH. Obviously, if you are financially well-off and do not care much about $$$$, you really don’t need any advice what to choose- IIITH is a good option. If you can’t get into these NITs, you probably cannot get into IIITH- so the comparison is even not required.

My apologies for being straight forward and blunt. Sometimes this is the only way to put the message across. 4 April 2016 Institute Tier-wise Ranking My suggested preferences for CSE, Mech and ECE (each category below for CSE has big gap between them; the college that first appears in the same category is marginally better): CSE 1) IIIT-Hyd 2) DTU=NITK=NITT=NITW=IIIT-D=NSIT (choose anyone depending on convenience) 3) NIT Calicut=MNNIT (choose anyone depending on convenience) 4) MNIT=NIT-Delhi=VNIT=SVNIT=PEC=IIIT-A Mech: 1) DTU 2) NITT=NITK=NITW 3) MNNIT=NITC 4) MNIT=SVNIT=PEC ECE 1) NITK=NITT=NITW=IIIT-Hyd=IIIT-Delhi 2) IIIT-A= VNIT=MNNIT=NITC=DCE=NSIT=NITD 3) MANIT=MNIT=SVNIT Other Branches: Please choose in the order of SAT2 Cut-off score for 2015-16 provided in below tables (higher SAT 2 cut-off being better institute). Generally- NITK=DTU=NITT=NITW NSIT=NITC=MNNIT=NITD MNIT=VNIT=SVNIT=PEC   Choice Filling: Normal(Non-CIWG) 1) Apply for 1/3 options (say 1-10th choice out of your total 30 (assumed)) for colleges/branches that look slightly difficult to get. There is obviously no need for colleges/branches that had cut-off of 2400 and if your score is 2250. 2) Apply for middle 1/3 options (say 11-20th ) for colleges/branches where you could just about get the seat last year or you are expected to get seat this year. 3) Apply for last 1/3 options (say 21-30th ) for colleges/branches where you could very easily get the seat last year or you are expected to get easily this year. Please understand the importance of these last choices just like top/middle choices. There were occasions in previous years where the cut-off suddenly jumped by 40-50 points. Students who had not planned for this eventuality/didn’t apply for lower tier colleges were not allotted any institute because of very few choices given by them on the portal. I strongly suggest to utilize as many choices as possible. CIWG Candidates Choice filling for both CIWG and Normal seats would be very personal affair. This involves the financial background of the person, the amount of love towards money or quality etc etc. However, examples could be given, say for CSE (just example, do not treat it as my personal preference- I really wish all to think about their own background and choose- there are no good templates) Choice 1-9: CIWG CSE: DTU, NITK, NITT, NITW, IIITD, NSIT, NITK-IT, DTU-IT, DTU-SE (hypothetical reasoning: I am a north Indian and say my child has reservations to go to NITC) Choice 10-14: Normal CSE: DTU, NITK, NITT, NITW, IIITD (Suppose I want SVNIT/VNIT/MNNIT-CIWG better than NSIT-normal, So NSIT not included) Choice 15-21: CIWG CSE: VNIT, SVNIT, MNNIT,MNIT, NITD, PEC, IIIT-A Choice 22-29 Normal: NSIT, VNIT, SVNIT, MNNIT,MNIT, NITD, PEC, IIIT-A Choice 30-36: CIWG CSE:NIT-Dgp, NIT-Rk, NIT-H,NIT-Kuru, NIT-Jal, MANIT, NIT-Goa 4th Round Expectations

  • DASA do not publish seat matrix of what can be available in the 4th round. Therefore, please do not ask what would be available in the 4th round.
  • Generally, top branches (CSE, ECE, Mech, IT) in top 15 colleges are not available. But some exception do happen every year that cannot be predicted.
  •  Generally, low demand branches (Biotech, Arch, electrical, civil, metallurgy, Prodn) in top 15 colleges could be available.
  • Top branches (CSE, ECE, Mech, IT) could be available in lower ranking institutes.
  • It can be expected that the cut-off for the 4th round could go higher by 20-30 points only (vs 3rd round) as the result of May SAT2 score would also be considered for this round.

Just to provide a flavor of what could be expected in this round, I am providing what was available in the Spot Round of 2015 (again refer to bullet point no. 1 above, DASA do not publish seat matrix for the 4th round). Spot Round Seat Availability in 2015   DASA-2015-Cutoff-Round-1.pdf   11 April 2015 IIIT-Hyderabad DASA Announcement For 2015, IIIT -Hyd have split DASA seats by disciplines. Only 20 seats for CSE for 2015 (vs a total of 30 seats in 2014), so expecting cutoff around 2380-2400 for CSE. The fee revised to USD 12k per annum (from $11 K). For ECE, 10 seats allocated for DASA. Expecting ECE cut-off between 2200-2300   9 April 2015 DASA Scheme brochure has been updated as on date and is available at below link. NSIT Delhi has been added as new institute this year.  It is a good addition for north Indians interested in CSE/ECE who can now choose this college as the cut-off is expected to be lower than NIT K and DTU, being first time entry under DASA scheme.   https://www.dasanit.org/dasa2015/documents/DASA%20UG%202015%20brochure%206apr.pdf   25 November 2014 For the academic year 2015-16, DASA scheme would be administered by Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT) Jaipur. I sincerely hope that DASA scheme is efficiently executed just like NITK, who had really done FANTASTIC job for last 6-7 years and have set very high standards in responding to candidates genuine concerns. Hats off to NITK admin who were pretty active on social media (I happened to receive quite a few email from NITK concerned in-charge in initial years to popularize the scheme and share the details with NRI community). Congratulations to all who got their dream institutes in the 1st Round. Following are the key takeaways from allotment 1)  Phenomenal rise of CSE branch this year. It is first time in DASA Scheme that allotment Cut-off is 2400/2400. 2) DTU emerged the top college in DASA Scheme 2014-15 for CSE as DTU CSE seats finished before NITK-CSE. DTU has huge reputation for good placements as best of the companies visit there (and hire students). 2) Out of first 20 toppers, 8 selected DTU, 7 NITK, 3 NITT and one each for MNNIT and NITW. 3) IIIT-Delhi made a big bang entry into top DASA institute club. The institute has the potential to be the top DASA institute in a few years time.

  1. Dear Raj,

For IIITH, my understanding is that for CSE, the cutoff generally goes to 2400, and they use SAT-1 as a tie-breaker. Do you know if they superscore across multiple SAT-1 tests, the way they do in many US universities (ie. the best reading score, the best Maths score) etc across tests. I mailed IIIT-H but didnt receive a reply. Thanks very much

    • Yes, for CSE the expected SAT2 Cut-off is 2400. Regarding, SAT1, most persons I have interacted had given the exam only once for IIITH. It seems the competition is hotting up even with SAT2 score of 2400.

For the exact policy on SAT1 score, you would really need to hear it from horse’s mouth. In my personal opinion, SAT1 exam (and GRE, GMAT) is a complete package exam and the section-wise score across many attempts are not considered to calculate highest score. Highest score is counted for full package on a single day attempt.

    • The rule on IIIT-Hyd website is self-explainatory :” The scores should reach IIIT-H on or before the submission of online application deadline. An applicant whose scores are not received by the said deadline will be disqualified and not considered for admission.” The deadline of the application is 25th April 2018.

  2. Dear Mr Raj,

My son's name in the passport is without last name . Hence in his 10th and 12th marks sheet also it is having only the first name. But for SAT 2 registration I had to enter last name without which the registration doesn't happen. So I have entered his father's first name as my son's last name. When the marks are sent to DASA it will have a different name on the passport and the SAT score. How to handle this discrepancy now

    • I don’t think it should be a show-stopper. In any case, I would suggest you to post this question to DASA when the portal for the same opens (sometime in Jan 2018).

  3. Heloo sir my son in 12grade nd appeared sat subject test and scored 2320 is he eligible for btech computer science in nit warangal or nit trichy

  4. Dear Mr. Raj,

Thanks for your continuous support to us.

My son is presently studying in 12th standard in UAE. We will be returning to India in May 2018. My son has already appeared SAT exams in UAE and has score of 2350+. He is aspiring for CSE with NIT in Calicut, Surathkal, Warangal, Trichy.  Will he be considered as per the DASA application system. We have been in UAE for over 9 Years and are in this complex situation.

Further as per reports, I have understood the Fee Structure for DASA                                              is reduced to Rs, 125,000. from Year 2017, onwards.                                                                          and the same will be applicable for  Year 2018 ?

    Regards

    Michael

    • Your son should be eligible for DASA. Since you would move out for UAE in May, you would need to get documents stamped by school before leaving.

On this blog, I generally refrain from speculating. So regarding CIWG fee, we would await the DASA rules for 2018.

  5. Hi Raj Sir,

My son is in 12th std now and he is a US citizen. He is studying in a CBSE school in India. He prefers computer science for BTech and would like to join a good college under DASA scheme. Would like to know the SAT score cut off for 2017 year to see if where he might fit in. Can you please share?

    Thanks

    • The SAT 2 cut-off for 2017 for various colleges is already available in the same post. This is a good indicator for 2018 as well.

      • Good Morning Mr Raj, You have been a great source of strength and  confidence for all NRIs. Also wanted to know your views on the Scholarship procedures for students. The application date is over but have students received scholarships in past for NRI students.

  6. Dear Raj,

Have you seen anything so far on the official confirmation for DASA scheme in 2018? I can see some websites already giving details of 2018 programme.

    • Rest assured, this website would be first to report any update in this matter as we continue to track the chatter on social media. Nothing has come till now on DASA 2018.

Some websites are run by bots and they just change year 2017 by 2018 every Nov/Dec to give a feeling of fresh content.

        • Yes, IIIT- Hyd runs a separate scheme with the same name of DASA. The DASA Scheme for mainly NITs is run by DASANIT.org which is not yet announced for next year.

      • Hi Raj,

Is the DASA announcement this year unusually late this year – you had indicated that it is generally announced by December, so was wondering considering it's almost the last week of the year.

        Thanks

        • I would say that for most years’ the announcement came in January. Year 2016 was was different as not only the portal but the brochure also came on 16 Dec 2015.

However, the panic button should go up if nothing comes out by January-end 2018. We would collectively start our social media campaign from then onwards.

          • Dear Raj,

Thanks for your continuos support to the NRIs education. Since the announcement for DASA 2018 didn't come yet, do you  know if we can contact the ministry of HRD to confirm whether the scheme is still on not?  In case they decide to cancel the scheme at least that announcement should come, right? Or, will they just keep silent leaving  us to assume that "no announcement no scheme".  Normally there is no need to be panic until end of Jan, however, for this year, the issue is because of some of the  NIT Directors recommended scrapping of the scheme.  Appreciate your feedback.

          • Dear Raj,

i just spoke to the  Special Secretary in the Ministry of HRD and he confirmed that DASA will be on for 2018 too.  The announcement will come soon.

  7. Dear Raj Sir,

It is bit surprising to me that well organised DASA VNIT -2017 did not provide the detailed analysis of this year student distribution roundwise final analysis which they usually provide every year.I remember even the highly unorganised DASA SRINAGAR in 2016 provided roundwise details of the students applied/got/rejected etc.

I am sure you too must e expecting that information. Overall the performance of DASA VNIT was exceptionally brilliant. Regards to you.

    • Yes, VNIT managed this year’s DASA scheme very well. The detailed analysis would really have helped for the next season of DASA applicants.

  8. Dear Mr. Raj

My elder daughter got admission in NITW (CSE) with your support and continuous guidnace to NRI's. My younger daughter is interested in Aeospance/Aeronautical engineering, please suggest good institutes for her.

    Regards

    • Thanks for being a long time visitor to the blog. Under DASA scheme, only PEC is worthwhile. Outside of IIT system, Anna Univ and MIT Manipal are other choices.

    • Dear Mr. Agarwal,

Mr. Raj correctly stated the options. PEC chandigarh is not worth going for it because I was there in the institute last year. This is very lowly rated branch over there and even all seats are not filled in their own routine admission procedure. As far as other institutes of south are concerned in this field same holds true. My south indian colleauge too tried for Anna university but found that there is no much scope in this branch. Sorry to dishearten you but it is my prime duty to share what I know because it involves our child future.lET ME SHARE A VERY SAD INFORMATION GIVEN TO ME BY MY C.O.O.whose son got admitted to ANNNA university in 2015 not through DASA but via NRI QUOTA SEAT in MECH.His son studied 11th /12th in India. He told me that five years back somewhere in 2012 his relative got admission in ANNA UNIVERSITY IN Aeronoutical Engg. and when he came out there was no scope in India. Finally he is presently working in a bank after clearing PO Exams.I have no idea about USA but I am told its better to do such branch over there because there will be better scope of this branch over there which needs to be explored very carefully.

By the way let me tell you my daughter got admitted via DASA route this year. I give 95% credit to Mr. Raj for taking her through in NSIT- ECE. Balance 5% belongs to GOD.Just follow Mr. Raj's advice you will sail through. Regards.

      • Thanks Rajesh ji for your unbiased opinion.

If someone is thinking to escape to USA with aeronautical degree, even bigger resistance awaits there. Due to the nature of aviation industry, post 9/11 event, the entry of the immigrant to this sector is very difficult. One of my friend’s son had done the Aero degree in USA and he had to move to IT because there was not much scope in the field.

However, the charm of this degree is too huge to resist for a 11/12 standard student. Hopefully the message has been conveyed.

      • Dear Mr. Raj & Rajesh,

Thanks for your bold & honest opinion. There is no way, I can forget the guidance of Mr. Raj throughout the DASA process for my elder daughter's admission.

Regarding the Aeronautical engineering matter, I am guided by the wish/interest of my daughter. However I will try to convience her to see if it works . By the way, I am having the same opinion as both of you. She is not having interest in CSE/ECE, so it becomes difficult to select other options.

        Regards

  9. Dear Mr. Syed,

I have already got 50% refund by sept. 2018 from CANARA BANK, VNIT NAGPUR by itself. I had not requested anything except givnig details (which you too must have given) during application for filling.Automatically they have sent the money back. I am sure by now you too must have got it back. Kindly check.Regards.

    • I have received the refund from DASA on 02-11-2017. This is the refund of the balance amount for CIWG candidates. Thanks.

  10. Hi Raj,

Given the uncertainties in DASA 2018, when can one expect some kind of notification – my understanding is that some notification generally comes in October – is that true?

    Thanks

    Prithvi

    • Generally DASA noticification comes in December. There have been years when it has come earlier in Oct and Nov as well.

  11. Dear Raj,

There was a news item http://www.hindustantimes.com/education/nit-directors-recommend-scrapping-direct-admission-scheme-for-offshore-students/story-wE6II30oHIhJUUIJs3mVPM.html

that the NIT directors recommended scrapping of the scheme. What's your personal opinion of this – this is impactful as my son has taken the SAT-2s and this impacts application to other universities abroad. Also, is there a DASA notification for 2018 that appears anytime soon? Given the way the MHRD university operates (such as last year changing the criteria from 2 to 5 years for CIWG last minute), I am very concerned of the lack of concern of the ministry to parents and students plans.

    Thanks

    Prithvi

    • In my personal opinion the scheme should continue as the current govt is quite sensitive to all groups including NRIs and will not do anything before 2019 election. In addition, last year Sushma ji took special interest in the whole issue.

The bottomline is that if the scheme is cancelled, we should all take some time out and protest very strongly on social media and in front of embassies etc. This works in 90% of cases. for 10% chance, keep your back-up options open. All have to understand, that I have no personal interest in this and the the applicant should not think that SOMEONE ELSE would do the protest on their behalf. You shall have to learn to take the matter in your own hand. Be ready. I would provide a suitable platform to unite all and plan further actions.

  12. Hi Raj,

We  plan to apply for dasa for upcoming 2018 but there is no information on it yet

My son has appeared for sat-II and needs to send scores to the colleges and needs a college name

I can only find VNIT for Dasa 2017.Can you please help us make a guess as to which NIT shall be hosting 2018 dasa admissions ?

    Regards

    Praveen

    • DASA scheme for the forthcoming year is generally announced in Dec.

There is no need to send SAT2 score to anyone at this stage. After online application portal opens in April 2018 (hopefully DASA scheme is continued for next year by HRD ministry), you could send the score (though you would need to pay a fee to send the score at later date). Every year, this is the process everyone follows.

  13. Dear all,

Has anyone got the refund from DASA?. Please let us know. As per Dasa website, we need to contact the Canara bank at Nagpur for any queries on refund. But there is no response from them when I had contacted.

    • I am also waiting for refund. Are there more members waiting for the refund ?? Update us if anybody has received it.

      Regards,

  15. Dear Raj Sir,

I just wish to share with you that DASA VNIT NAGPUR has done the 50% refund of my payment on 20th Sept. It is for your informtaion Sir. As you rightly said earlier that seeing their accuracy and efficiency of work, they may do the refund in Sept. itself. Yes they did that. My daughter though got the branch and location of her choice in Special Round. We once again sincerely thank you.Regards.

  16. Hi,. My son had studied in Qatar from LKG till 10th and have relocate to India and continez his studies for 11th 12th at Thane, Maharashtra.  I am working in Qatar.  Whether my soon will be eligible for CIWG quota.  Your feedback will be highly appreciated.  Regards Ramesh Raman

    • For DASA scheme (including CIWG seats), the candidate has to complete 11 and 12 from outside India, if your nationality is Indian. PIO/OCI etc have the flexibility to study in India for 11 and 12 and still be eligible for DASA scheme.

  17. Dear Mr. Raj,

My daughter got NSIT – ECE in special round. The whole credit goes to you for keeping us updated and well informed.Your guidence & previous years data on this site helped me to analyse the pattern of  various rounds during various years. We took the call to go for special round becaus ewe were confident enough that what we are leaving at round 3, same we can catch back in special round as the worst case scenario.Same happened and we got the better option in Special Round. I  & my daughter sincerely give the entire credit to you for taking us to that college with the branch of our choice.Regards & Thanks.

    • Dear Rajesh, Thanks very much for your well-meant appreciation.

In fact, I would also like to thank you for your inumerous queries that is an integral part of a well-running forum.

      All the very best.

    • Has anyone got the refund from DASA.  We have not still received it.  Canara Bank phones are not reachable and no response to emails also.

  18. Dear Mr. Raj,

My son got DTU IT (CIWG) after 3rd round and also DAIICT NRI seat.

What is your advice for preference ?

Your timely response will be highly appreciated.

    • DTU IT is quite sought after in JEE-Mains (just refer to cut-off for DTU IT in recent years).  The reputations and placements are good for DTU. On the other hand DAIICT admits lower ranked students thru’ JEE-Mains but offer good acamedic environment.

  19. Dear Mr. Raj,

    Greetings..

My son has got Mech Engg in DTU during internal sliding. Initially he was allotted Electrical Engg. What is your advice on Mech vs Elect engg in DTU?. My son is ok for both. Appreciate your valuable advice. Thanks Syed

    • Consider yourself lucky to get Mech in DTU. However, DTU Mech is a large group and only few get to work on fantastic mech projects that the institure does. Ask your son to work hard and be counted.

  20. Dear Raj Sir,

We sincerely thank you for the kind advices given by you for the entire journey of this process. Your patience and point blank responses are highly appreciated by we all. Your services will always be remembered by these children who have got immense help from your end.Regards.

    • Dear Rajesh,

Thanks for all your questions (and many responses too). There is much cloud on most of the online info that it is a challenge to provide crystal clear guidance. Wishing good luck to new life in colleges for the students. Only guidance: please do not lose your ‘hosh’ in ‘josh’, stay away from drugs and take care of your studies.

  21. Raj sir: congratulations to your effort- very useful recommendations, impersonal, and with conviction in whatever you said- many of us benefited- next year, certainly we would love to revert and support other NRI parents and kids in their search- best wishes to you and your family in all such efforts to giving back to the society with all modesty.

    • Thanks dear for your (and many others) contribution as well on this blog. In fact the queries on this blog are as important as the response for the reader.

  22. Dear Raj,

Sir thank-you so much for this amazing blog of yours..It was so helpful in every aspect… Sir I got mechanical engineering in svnit…Sir but I was slightly confused and gutted at the same time about one thing..Now according to 2nd round the cut off for IT in MNNIT was 1990..Sir and even I got 1990 but still I didn't get the seat even if I kept it as a higher priority in accept and upgrade option.. I still don't get it?? But anyways now I have accepted svnit mech engineering…

    Thank-you so much once again…..

    • Dear Anmol,

It is quite possible that at the same score like yours some other child might be interested in IT at MNNIT but carrying higher score in  maths than yours in SAT.That can only be the plausible explaination I can give for your situation.

  23. Raj Sir: third round cut off declared-what your observations? looks like students have made use of additional time and improved their SAT scores for some NITS

    • kindly go through the website of MNNIT on daily basis. they will surely update the exact date of reporting for DASA students.

if not updated, we can always follow between 21st and 25th anytime.

    • Dear Mr. Abdul,

Kindly note some of the parents have reported to MNNIT on 21st. Its just for your information.

  24. My brother has been alotted a seat in MANIT Bhopal but they are asking 1910USD for institute fees and 150USD for mess fee for tutuion fee which is too much to pay for . I have checked all other NIT website and they have the same fees for DASA students as other JoSAA students. Now that I have locked his seat , I can't even change college or get my money refunded . Please tell me what should I do?

    • Mess fee looks all fine. Institute fee looks out of place. Since you have already locked the seat, join the institute and study well. If all MANIT students have to pay the fee, you can’t do much. If DASA students are the only students, take the matter with MHRD.

      • raj sir: how is this possible? How can there be fee variation simply because they are DASA( over and above the prescribed tuition fee)- guess some communication problem between office A and office B?

  25. Dear Raj,

Requested to tell  if know which Indian bank can  make/issue DD in USD for an India beneficiary as  DD in USD is required by collge for NRI. Or is there any way from Indian account (INR) to deposit fee in USD as required by DASA for NRI.

    Please help.

    regds

    Ravinder

    • For DASA application, refer to the page 6 and 7 of DASA Brochure. The excerpts are per following
      Quote
Parents, living in India or abroad & also applicants from Nepal and Bhutan can pay prescribed fees under DASA scheme either in US Dollars or in Equivalent Indian Rupees. If payment is made in INR then they are required to submit Exchange Rate Certificate from the bank and copy of the payment/debit advice along with the application form.

    • Dear Raj , Ravinder ,

Parents, living in India or abroad can pay prescribed fees in Equivalent Indian Rupees with Exchange Rate Certificate. Please refer UG Brochure 2.3.1.

    Thanks

  31. Dear Raj. ..Nit Nagpur have not given details of Hostels fees for NRI/Ciwg candidates. ..Last year some parents were not prepared when they were asked to pay development fees along with Hostel fees..

    • DASA scheme has nothing to do with charges which are applicable at the alloted institute. A general rule is that if the fee is being charged from everyone , just pay it. NITs are not XYZ World Univ (i.e. private) that would charge donation.

  36. Hello Everyone,

Any body from Doha, who is studing/secured in NITW. I need to talk ….to get some information/help.

    My contact # +974 66605071

    Regards

  37. Dear Mr. Raj

My daughter did not get the upgradtion in round # 2, she has already secured NITW in round # 1. If we will go for round # 3 without choice change option , will her seat in NITW remains secured ?

    Regards

    • Below excerpt is from DASA Allotment procedure which is self-explanatory.. It is very clear that if you get upgrade in Round 3, you will forfeit your previous allotment. If no upgrade takes place, you retain the original allotment.

“Press Round 3 without choice change if you are accepting the currently allotted seat but are interested to be considered in Round 3 allotment for up gradation of Institute/ course as per the original choices given at the time of filling the application. The Provisional Allotment Letter would be generated in this case. If the applicant gets a seat that has higher preference in his/her list of choices in Round 3, the applicant will automatically forfeit his/her claim on the seat previously allotted i.e. the applicant cannot have the liberty of choosing between the seats allotted in successive rounds. In case no up gradation takes place due to Round 3 allotment, the allotment in Round 2 will be retained.”

Just to wart or caution the applicants, if anyone goes in Round 3 with Choice Change, the person completely loses the original alloted seat

  38. Dear Raj Sir,

Kindly make us understand that how come the R-2 cut off can go up? For example, in R-1 at DTU there was 1820 cut off score for EE for NON CIWG candidates but in R-2 it went up to 1940 ? Question here is, why the student of 1940 did not get EE in first round itself ?

There is a confusion to me about it, if you can clerify ? Regards.

    • Without having database infront of us, it is really difficult to explain. However, I have full trust in DASA process, developed having seen a fair allotment process for last many years.

      • Dear Narayanan,

Whether you understood how come R-2 score can go UP  from R-1 score because if it is happeneing then why the higher scorer did not get the seat in R-1 itself ?

Between R-1 & R-2 there are NO NEW ENTERANT AS WELL AS NOBODY IS ALLOWED TO CHANGE HIS OR HER CHOICES ? Then how it is possible.

ALL readers are requested to shed light on this if anyone of you have some better understanding ?

        • Why this happens is not clear- but a scenario where in some courses and institutions CIWG has lesser cut off than NRI will happen. It is also not clear why it was decided to go with "Either OR" option in as much as why residential requirement was set at 8 years( initially)

          • I do not know why no one is answering to the question, how the cut off can increase in R2. Here is a scenario.
Say, Students, A, B, C haave got scores 2400, 2350 and 2300 respectively got NIT Trichy Mech in R1. So, R1 cutoff will be 2300. Now, say, A 'Accepts', B does an 'Áccept and Upgrade' and C 'Accepts'.
In R2, B will be included in the Merit List as he has neither Áccepted nor declined. There is one vacant seat in NIT Trichy Mech as B has not Accepted. Now during R2 allotment, let us say B does not get a higher choice and ends up in NIT Trichy Mech again. So he will be allotted NIT Trichy Mech again and the R2 cutoff will be 2350. This is higher than R1 cutoff.
            Hope this helps.
