Following were the guidelines and procedure for DASA admissions Last Year 2011:
DASA Scheme: Admissions to Engineering Colleges for NRIs/PIOs: Useful Information
DASA-Scheme-2011-Procedure-rules-guidelines
SAT II Subject Tests: Everything About It
My son is interested in Elecronics and communiation at NITJalandhar.
Please could you let us know the minimum sat scores are required for the the admission.
Not much demand under DASA scheme. The minm score needed under DASA(1440) would be fine. However, I suggest to consider PEC or Kuru
Hi Raj,
I checked out your expected cut offs for DASA 2012. How could u predict this? And by approx how much does it go down in 2nd and 3rd rounds?
The expected cut-off is based on last year’s cut-off plus guesswork considering stiffer competition this year (by the way cut-off scores have been going higher only every year. By the third list the scores could slide between 20-100 based on dynamics of each year. However, I do not see ECE/CSE/Mech in NITK sliding even by 50 points by the 3rd list.
Dear sir,
What is the future scope in IT (what be can be done after graduation)?
I want to MBA or masters(MS) after graduation, so, should I place IT over ECE?
A quick response will be highly appreciated in these late days. Keep up your good work!!!
The prospective employers always look for the better candidates. Obviously the ECE branch candidates would have ranked higher than IT candidates in any admission criteria.
Would you kindly tell me the cut-off for architecture in calicut and trichy ?
I have now posted expected cut-off marks at below link

My child has secured 2060 in SAT 2 . Will she be eligible for Computer Engineering in NIT Durgapur or NIT Trichy
Can get in NIT-D, difficult for T
sir,
congratz for the amazing response you are receiving to this Blog.
It is a great service as tremendous doubts always surround DASA admission process.
Sir, my concern is that… i have already scored 2280 in PCM for SAT II , and i have written SAT for may also. The results of may SAT comes on May24. Sir, i have oredred for the scores to be sent to NIT-K but i am doubtfull whter the scores will reach before the cut-off of 29th may. please give me an assurance regarding how and when are scores to be sent. because i dont want to loose my chance for admissions to NIT.
Thanks a million, in advance.
Tc.!!
Do not worry much, DASA itself have noted that candidates can give SAT2 exam upto May.
Dear Raj
I am awaiting my SAT 2 reults this May. Now am filling my form. Had a question, on most sites they say that Warangal and Trichy are better than Surathkal while Acc to DASA cut offs etc they say Surathkal is more preferred. Can you please advise on basis of Placements, facilities, infrastructure and quality of edu. Please reply ASAP
Regards
Sam
In nutshell: The preferencess of AIEEE candidates are different from DASA scheme candidates.
Respected Sir,
I applied for dasa recently.
i have two doubts,
1. I appeared for the sat test in two sittings; in the first i gave chem and in the second i appeared for physics and chem. Hence i have two registration numbers. I should submit "both" to dasa right?
2. While sending hard copies, i wont be having my 12th marksheet. There wont be no issue right? i WILL OF COURSE SUBMIT MY 12TH MARKSHEET DURING ADMISSION
1) Yes, send both scores of different dates
2) No probs, most candidates would be in the same boat.
Dear sir,
Which of these colleges do you think is the best for cse: NUS(national university of singapore), IIITH, NITW, NITT, NITK. I also plan to pursue my masters from a reputed US university(prefavorably with a scholarship).
Looking forward to your reply at the earliest.
Thanks
Please note that most Indian candidates go to NUS when they can’t get a decent branch in IITs/top NITs. This is not to demean the high ranking of NUS, just a fact in Indian context. For me, IIIT-H is best outside IIT system.
Dear Mr. Raj,
Thanks for the bold advices. Great job! My daughter expects 1900 to 2000 inSAT-2 of 5 May-2012. Does she stand a chance for Civil or Chemical in NIT-Calicut? Any Chance there for Civil if she gets only 1800 - Valsaraj
With 2000, good chance for civil. With 1800, I suggest pick up a good branch than picking up a good college.
Raj Sir,
With a SATII score of 1990 can we apply for CSE in NITK/NITT/NITW/MNNIT/NITC?
Should we also add more colleges ? If yes, what are the next best colleges?
Srinivas
Good chance to get MNNIT- which is very good for CSE. Other choices are Jaipur, Rourkela, Surat and Kuru
Dear Sir,
Is 92% in +2 a good score for SPDC aid ? Do you know what were the cut-off scores in the past years?
Regards,
Srinivas
I remember 94%+ were good scores for SPDC, however you may try your luck.
hey i gt 2170 nd m applying fr ece mechanical and eee in nit surathkal trichy and calicut..! do u think i wil get into any of these college wid these marks or shud i put more colleges??
You may get in NIT-T and C.
Hi Raj,
My son has 2300 score in SAT II and what are his chances for 1) ECE in NIT T, K 2) EEE in NIT T, K.
with 2300, ECE in T is possible and EEE in any institute.
Sir, with a score of 1800, can I get Civil in NITC, NITW, NITT?
Civil in C and W possible with a bit of luck (pray others don’t grab it before your turn comes up)
Dear Sir,
My daughter has scored 2350 in SAT 2. She is interested in taking either Chemical Engineering from NITK or EEC/CSE from PEC Chandigarh. Between these three options (Chemical/EEC/CSE) which one should be preferred taking into account the institute ranking, infrastructure facilities as well as future career prospects and job opportunities.
Thanks………………
Personally, first choose a branch and then select 4-5 institutes to get it.
I am an NRI from Dubai and I have scored 2150 in SAT held in November 2011. My IIT scores are not impressive . Under DASA what are my chances of getting in Electrical and Electronics Engg in NIT – Suratkal or in the second best Institution. Pls guide. Going through the website of DASA , all score card are sent by College Board to NIT- Suratkar , based on my request on MY SAT . Is there need to ask the College Board to send me Score Card – Physical ( not in electronic form). The reason for my question is that in case i opt for any other institution that institution can ask for a Physical Score Card duly attested by College Board. Please throw some light on this . How much time does it normally takes for the score card to reach the recipient in Mumbai or Dubai. How do you rate MANIPA L University as they are also providing admissions to NRI students. Although the fees structure of both are too steep and needs to be reconsidered. Pls enlighten me. Thanks B/Rgds – Rohan
EEE in K with your score is unlikely. I have already listed top DASA institutes in the main article.
If you can get a seat in one of top 5-7 colleges in DASA, don’t even look at Manipal.
Sir,my sat score is 2180. ideally, how many preferences for colleges should i fill in the option list? is it fyn if i only fill NIT – suratkhal, NIT – calicut, and NIT trichi?
You may get your choice in NIT-C. However, I would have added a couple of more NITs, just to be on safe side.
Sir please tell me about spot admission.. is there any chance of getting in through spot admission ?
You can get what you want in spot admissions except for top 7-8 colleges and top branches.
What is the cut off for getting into IIIT-H? I got 2250 in SAT II. Do I have a chance of getting a seat in CSE?
Your scores are good, however IIIT-H doesn’t publish any data. The admission process also includes interview, so cannot say with certainty about outcome.
Hi Raj
You are doing a great help to the guys like me by clarifying a number of doubts. I have gone through the entire Q and A above and am very much impressed.
My issue is a bit different. This year, the duration of study has been reduced to 2 years for DASA. My daughter studied Class XI and XII under CBSE curriculum at Singapore. Her period of study is 2 years, but the period of stay in Singapore is less than 2 years. My query is whether she is eligible to apply under DASA? Till standard X, she has studied in India.
Thanks a million in advance.
Regards
Prasad
I would think your case should be fine. However, the exact duration of stay in days is not defined by DASA, so it would be at their discretion. Suggest to get in tough with DASA officials.
R/SIR, MY SON HAS SCORED 2160 MARKS IN SAT 2 SUBJECT TEST HE IS INTERESTED IN MECH BRANCH .HE IS INTERESTED IN NIT SURATKAL OR TRICHI OR WARANGLE. IS HE ABLE TO GET ADMISSION WITH THIS MARKS IN ABOVE N I TS .AND COULD YOU TELL ME WHICH N I T OR PRIVATE ENGG COLLEGE IS GOOD FOR MECHANICAL BRANCH. AND HOW MANY SEATS UNDER DASA QUOTA WERE VACANT IN 2011 -2012 IN DIFFRENT N I T S .PLEASE REPLY THANKS
Your son can get in nit w with the scores. Frankly I don’t like private colleges at all if you can get top DASA institutes.
sir i hv a sat2 score of 2150 can i have a chance of getting admitted to nitw or nitk for cs engineering
You could get adm in W.
My son is studying in IB school in Nigeria. Would he be eligible for DASA scheme.
Please refer to page 17 of DASA brochure for eligible boards. If the class is equivalent of 12th grade- would be eligible.
Mr Raj Tyagi,
Please help. I have a score of 2360 in PCM and 1580 in PM and I want o pursue comp engg in IIIT-H or DTU. I am confused whether I should apply for DASA or not, as I will lose $3500 if I get admission in DTU or IIIT-H.
If I dont apply for DASA and, God forbid, I dont get admission in DTU or IIIT, then i will be ' Na ghar ka na ghat ka'
Please Advice. Thanks.
Your scores are good. IIIT-H has published notice on NRI seats while DTU has not done it so far. So that leaves you with IIIT-H only.
You would need to assess how much risk you could take, both in terms of loss of one year and loss of $3500. Personally I would buy peace of mind by using my earnings (unless of course the $ outgo would strip my sleep more than loss of 1 year of career).
Dear sir
i have just given my Sat 2 may test (as it was my first attempt)
and the scores are out on may 24.
what are my chances to get mech.engg in NITW
with a score of 2000 ( as i believe will be my minimum score)
thank you.
With about 2000 score, Mech not possible in any of top 5 colleges.
Dear Mr. Raj
My son just appeared for SAT II May exam and awaiting its results. He expects around 1900-2000 and applied through DASA Scheme for Mechanical Engineering only in NIT Calicut, NIT Trichy, NIT Suratkal and NIT Warangal and NIT Nagpur. What are the chances for him to get admission for Mech.? if he does not get admission in NIT, could you suggest other alternatives for him to study for Mech in a reputed college. I am afraid that their admission procedures may have already completed while we are waiting for DASA selection. In case his application is rejected by DASA due to low score or non availability of seats, will we get the full tuition fee refund? Please list down some of the best private colleges offer Mech. Eng in South India.
I must say that you are doing a wonderful service to the mankind.
Best regards,
Abdul Nazer, Jeddah – KSA
He can get mech in Nagpur and any of the college other than top 5. I don’t see any need to consider private college if your likely scores are what you have noted.
sir
can u tell me the most preffered colleges in north india under the dasa scheme with respect to academic and placement prospects
PEC, NIT-A, IIIT-A, Jaipur
Sir, i have 2320 in my SAT. should i opt for any NIT other than NITK, NITW or trichy? Is COEP better in terms of placements? or comparable?
your scores are good, no need to apply to other NON-DASA institutes. COEP is good but top 3 NITs are beyond any comparison between them.
Dear Raj Sir,
Between MNNIT-Allhbd and NITC, even though rankings wise MNNIT-A > NITC, Interestingly I am seeing that people with better SAT scores are opting for NITC than MNNIT-A. wondering why NITC is ranked lower.
I read some very disturbing things abt MNNIT- A from some blogs (for eg., The Chhamanator's blogs) like poor infra, ragging (sometimes violent that once lead to a suicide), power cuts, cramped hostel rooms, faculty quality, only hindi speaking faculty, very bad food, hardly any sports/extracurricular activities etc., etc.). Not sure what to make out of it. Wish if someone could give latest first hand info on this.
Please let me know if according to you, its a wrong move to opt for NITC instead of MNNIT-A future career prospects wise, or that both colleges are more or less the same and should not really matter in the long run?
Kindly let me know your frank opinion on this and help me make a better decision
Regards,
Srinivas
In DASA scheme, NITC is more in demand (compared to MNNIT-A) as many of the gulf-expats are from that state. If you only consider academics, MNNIT is better (just google aieee 2011 cut-off ranks for the two colleges to find out yourself). However infra and city comparison are different matter altogether.
Dear Sir,
I would like to thank u for the wonderful job that u are doing. This site has been very useful to me.
I currently have a SAT-2 score of 2050 and have just written the paper again in May. I’m expecting a good score and want to pursue Comp. Science Engg. in NIT-K or NIT-T. However, if for some reason I am unable to get what I want, is it better to opt for IT in NIT-K or CSE in a private college like MIT, Pune? Thanks.
First thing first- don’t even look at private colleges if you can get in any of the top 5-7 DASA colleges (unless someone is in love with their home town). Secondly, don’t look at IT if you are getting CSE in other DASA institute.
Dear Sir,
My current SAT Score is 1940 and have already appeared for 5th May SAT for improvement. With the available score, is there any chance to get admission in NITT for ECE, EEE or Mechanical branch.
Thank you
Phil
Unlikely to get the branches in TRICHY with the score.
Dear sir,
my SAT score -2170, what are my chances for ece/cse/eee in nit warangal, nit trichy, nit calicut
Good chances in all 3 colleges for the listed branches
Hey…
Can you please tell me when the application forms for the nri admissions in Delhi Technological University come out??
Thanks, keep the good work up…appreciate it
Balesh
In DTU, the scheme is announced in end-May since last 2 years. However, there is no guarantee that the scheme would be announced at all. Keep your fingers crossed as the institute is one of the last to announce admission formalities.
I have SAT score 1860, and seeking only Comp Science in any South Indian NITs, preferably Kerala.
Can I give option only Comp Science ? What woud be the chances to come in 1st or 2nd list ?
Please reply…Thank you.
Very difficult to get CSE in the 4 south NITs with your score. Consider other NITs.
i just checked the seats available (DASA scheme) or each branch in d respected NIT colleges … its like 9 -12 seats max for each …so wont there be enough competiton .. i wana get into NIT rourkela ..for chemical enginering .do u think it possible with just 1800 sat score?
Yes, you would most likely get it.
SAT score is 1880. Any chance in NIT Calicut for CSE admission ?
Pls reply..Thanks.
Difficult. Choose some other institute for the branch.
my daughter has in sat 2020 total score please tell me can she will get seat in NIT kurukshetra in cse .
Yes, she can get CSE
will i surely get a EEE seat at nit k with a sat subject test score of 2290 ? Among the top 3 nit's,even though you say trichy and warangal are superior to surathkal , is there a big difference or are they equally good? if not what makes them superior?
thank you and do reply at the earliest.
Most likely you will get EEE (wish I could give guarantee!). In my previous posts I have noted that “As per AIEEE caandidates preference” T and W get better ranked candidates. Having said that, my individual 1st pref is K not due to academics but due to a better connectivity (nearby airport), cosmopolititan culture, better food, ambience of Karnataka ….
Dear Raj ji,
I was tracking the movement of my son's DASA application. It shown they have received all documents except for qualifying examinatino details. I fail to understand what is qualifying examination details as in the applicaiton it is clearly mentioned the marks obtianed in Class X, Class XI and ist semester of class XII and also that final result would be declared sometime in June, 2012. Since I failed to get any reply from DASA, I am bothering you for this information also.
Thanks a lot for your valuable guidance,
Regards
Anand
I really do not have access to DASA site (only candidates can access it) so not aware about specifics. Would appreciate if someone on the same boat can respond please.
Pretty sure that it's not first sem. They need the 12th standard board marks (i.e. school qualifying exam). Not just the 1st sem marks in 12. In case your child hasn't recieved it yet (as in the case of CBSE where the board result will be announced later this month), you can sign an undertaking saying that you'll give the marks later. So, until then, the qualifying exam details will be 'Not recieved'. The best thing to do would be contact DASA and enquire about it, with regard to your Application ID of course.
Mr. Anand , the qualifiying eaxamination detail is the final board exam result. In the DASA brochure if u read, under the heading refund, they is a small note in block letter saying tht if u’ve not yet received u’re qualying result then u have to send them letter sayin the statement written in tht note and sign it.
If u’ve already done tht, then the satus of u’re qualifying result will be updated when u send them the board results when u get them.
I hope thts wat u were looking for.
Respected Sir,
can u please tell me the minimum score i need to get in NIT-W or NIT-R ..mech.chem or elect
thank you in advance .
1800 for Rourkela. 1900 for elec in W.
Sir, Are placements offered to foreigners? I have heard from a source that only Indians are placed. My son would pursue Masters from US or Aus. Will a degree from any NIT be well reputed or are there only some fixed NIT's only? I am saying this because I am confused about what to give more preference. I would prefer NIT Durgapur because of its location i.e West Bengal and NIT Warangal because it is higher ranked. My son got 2310 in SAT 2.
As long as you have Indian passport, jobs are no issues in the campus.
For foriegners, very few companies would be interested due to visa issues. Top 4-5 NITs are well reputed.
what SAT score is necessary for NIT-trichy in mechanical or material science?
thank you,
KR
2250 for mech, 1800 for matl sc
Sir,
Apart from PEC and DTU which other colleges would u suggest in North india which are good in terms of placements as well as academic prospects.
MNNIT, IIIT-A, NIT-Jai, NIT-Kuru
Hello,
I have a question with the following:
"Candidates must have passed the qualifying examination i.e. senior secondary or any other examination equivalent to 12 years of schooling in India."
I am high school senior in the US. What would be the equivalent to the examination referred above? Should I just put down my high school diploma for the qualifying admissions portion?
Thanks,
Shilpa
Yes, High School Sr is equal to grade 12th.
Sir, I am currently an nri student studying in USA. I am applying for DASA and my first preference is NIT-Trichy. I wanted to know the possible score cutoff for mechanical, aeronautical, and materials science for this year batch.
Thank You,
Kaushik.
my son already appeared twice in SAT-2. He got 770 in math-2 and 600 in che in first attempt and scored 770 in phy and 770 in che and 600 in math-2 in second attempt. As per DASA guideline , his sat -2 score should be best score subjectwise ie 770 in each PCM , total 2310. please confirm .
my second question , what is his chance of getting mechanical in NIT-K , NIT-T . NIT-W for a score of 2310?
Yes, the best scores are 770 in each subject, hence a total of 2310. As per last year cut-off, you can get Mech in all 3 colleges (however, my guess this year is that K cut-off for mech would be 2340-2360). Keep the fingers crossed.
Some sites say NIT warangal is better for placement and quality while some say Trichy is and others say Surathkal; what is your personal opinion?
The preference of AIEEE candidates for seats are quite good indication about the colleges. CBSE site and many other have posted the cut-oof rank for the institutes for AIEEE 2011 exam. The ranking is T>W>K. However, overseas candidate have many other priorities as well.
Dear sir,
If two students have the same SAT score, then on what basis will the rank be given???
Thanks
Please refer to DASA 2012 brochure posted on the main article and refer to clause 1.6.2
Sir,
Firstly,I would like to thank you for all the work you are doing. I don't know how much confusion there would have been if you weren't so helpful. Thank You again
Secondly, can you tell me what would be the minimum SAT -II score required to get into DTU? I have a score of 2180 and i am hoping to improve in May. By how much should I improve so as to get a seat in Dtu in a good branch, for instance, Electrnics and communication?
Thanks in advance
DTU only considers Maths and Phy scores for DASA. A score of 1500 is good (out of 1600)
Sir,
I got a score of 2120.Can i get Mech/ECE/Civil/CSE in NIT -Calicut?What about NIT K?
Thanking you,
John
Yes for NIT-C. Scores not good enough for K
Sir,
How much sat score wud u suggest for chemical and civil eng in NITK?
and what do feel abt doing biotechnology in NITW ? Are there good placements?
for chem: 2200, for covil 1900. People choose biotech when they have full info on what they are doing, frankly I do not like it that that much.
Hey RT, great thread.!
I wanted to know if I can send my previous SAT test's scores now and then I could send you my May 5th SAT scores once it's out. I'm having a 1870 as the total of my October Test which makes me eligible for the admission process.
Thanks.
Yes, that should be fine.
Sir, Do you have latest ranking of NITs? Which NIT is good for CSE after Trichy, Warangal and Surathkhal?
For NIT rankings, please see AIEEe cut-off ranking (you can google it). After top 3 , following are also good: MNNIT, NIT-C, PEC,IIIT-A
Hi,
Is the ranking of IIITH is considered to be higher than any NIT?
IIIT-H is infact better than all new IITs (more students below 1000 AIR in AIEEE join IIIT-H than all NITs and new IITs)
Dear Raj
Super blog. Thanks for all the help and info. I would just like to know;
with around 77% in my 12th boards, will it be possible for me to get a schoarship by EdCil or MOA by that diaspora scheme? And what does it amount to? I cannot find any information on their website for this academic year.
Also i would like to know whether if i dont get NITK is W and T comparable in terms of placements and recommendations for higher studies abraod maybe? T
Thanks boss
With your score, no chances for the scholarship. K, T and W are all awesome and are comparable on all counts.
Sir,
My son's Sat -II score is 2160. Is he likely to get admission in CSE in PEC and NIT, W under DASA.
Regards,
For a score of 2160, good chance to get in W followed by PEC.
Dear sir,
Will a score of 1800 guarantee a seat in biotechnology NITW in the first merit list?
Good chances. As for guarantee, could have given one if the scores were 2000+.
Sir
Firstly, I would like to thank you for all the information you have provided here on your site. It has been really helpful.
My current SAT 2 score is 2320 in PCM and 1580 in Physics and Math, hoping to improve chemistry scores this may. I am aspiring for Computer Engg in DTU and IIIT-H. What are my chances? And which of the two is a better choice for Comp?
Thanks in advance.
The scores are good. Both have good placements, IIIT has slightly better ranking.
But according to India today and Outlook, DTU has higher ranking..
And Im asking in terms of comp sci only.. Also, which of the two will provide better campus life?
College ranking is pretty debatable topic. I normally refer to AIEEE cut-off ranking for the colleges for objectivity wherein IIIT-H cut-off is very high in terms of AIEEE AIR ranking amongst all AIEEE colleges. Campus life is subjective choice where I prefer Delhi, however, faculty in Hyd is best with most number of PhDs.
Hello Sir/Madam,
My son has got 2140 in SAT-II and her intends to apply for Mechanical or Computer Science. In which reputed college in South or North India can he get admission? (although he prefers south India more)
Secondly, which NIIT is good from communication to airport perspective as he is not accustomed to travel in Indian railways.
Appreciate your suggestions.
Regards,
Good chances in all but NIT-K &T. Many NRI parents really share your likings for a metro-airport connectivity. NIT-K, DTU, IIIT-H, PEC, Jaipur are good for air-connectivity.
Hello,
Where or how my son can get old SAT subject papers for Phy. Ch and Maths II? He lives in UAE.
Regards,
SP
Buy some books from Barron, McGraw-Hill, Princeton, Kaplan or a couple of online websites.
sir, i got a score of 1850 in SAT 2. I was originally planning to write sat in may, but unfortunately there were no seats in my country. I wanted to ask..will it be of any use if i write SAT in June? and also, with a score of 1850, which universities can I get into for CSE or Civil Engineering.Thanks.
June exam will not be considered. Except for top 5-6 colleges noted in the main article, you could qualify in all others.
sir please help me i have already given my sat test on dec 3 2011 but i havent yet send score to dasa.if i send the scores now will it work for me or do i have to give new exam for it. please report fast sir.
SAT subject test scores have to be submitted through College Board to NITK. No need to give new exam, ask CollegeBoard to send your scores to the NITK code as listed on dasanit.org website
Sir,
My SAT 2 score is 1700.Is there any chance for me to get Mechanical Engineering? If not,any other branch?
Thanks.
You can get admission to all except top 6-7 colleges. Please refer to the main article for the top colleges. Please consider that I don’t want to be specific for obvious reasons for the benefit of current batch and future batches.
Dear Raj,
]
My son is a US national and has OCI. He studied upto 8th Grade in US and from 9th grade he is studying in India (CBSE). He is awaiting for his CBSE 12th final results.
Our understanding/interpretation of the DASA 2012 brochure is that the residential requirements are for NRIs and not for Foreign Nationals category. (Means FNs can either reside/study in abroad or India).
We as well know few foreign national under the same category, as ours, who got admissted to NIT K last year, 2011. So, we believe, based on his foriegn nationality status he is eligible for DASA.
You may please confirm/correct our above understanding.
In Oct/Nov 2011, my son scored a SAT2 of 2370 (800-MCII, 800-P and 770 C).
- Can he expect to get EE / Computer Science & Engineering / ECE at NIT K? His branch preference is likely tobe EE -> CSE -> ECE. Where as EE & ECE are established engineeging streams, relative to CSE, what would be your recommendation for the top institute for CSE under DASA Scheme?
When it comes to CSE
- NIT K doesn't offer CSE but it offers CE (Computer Engineering), do you think it would be different than CSE program or NIT T or NIT W? Means is it a just a branch name or more to it?
DTU:
As DTU doesn't come under DASA, (but uses SAT2 scores) is it good to pursue CSE at DTU rather than NITs? What additional benefits DTU offers compared to NIT K / NIT T?
(Based on the Website info, the EE at DTU didn't appear as a top notch institute for EE. But it may be a good one for CSE).
Future Growth:
Please also consider the amount of research that an institute undertakes while assessing the academic life in NIT K / NIT T / NIT W / DTU.
Among these above 4 institutes, which one will offer the student a better scope/recognition to pursue Masters in Engineering / Technology / Management in top Universities in US (say like MIT / CalTech).
Social life:
Among NIT K, NIT T, NIT W and DTU what would be a recommmended one that balances student's college life, Academic, infrastructure, food, extra curricular and social life? [After all the student needs to enjoy the institute as much as possible. We study UG engineering only once for a life
Sorry, a bit lengthy request. Hope you should be able to put your thoughts and help us.
Regards
Mohan
DASA have finally changed rules that OCI/FN can sudy anywhere for DASA eligibility. With your score, you could choose your colleges.. Personally I like NIT-T and DTU for their high rankings. All top 4 NITs + pec and DTU have good reputation for US Masters. The colleges are only one part of eligibilty for masters in USA, there are many related to individual merits.
I have just written the 12th boards and I have a SAT2 subject test score of 2280. I have some queries :
1) The Sat 2 score of november 5 exam was sent twice by collegeboard to DASA. Does it matter?
2) What score do you suggest for admission in NITK and NIT trichi for ECE, ME , CSE for 2012 admissions.
3) What are the chances of me getting admission into them?
Regards
Abhinav
1) It doesn’t matter
2) 2350+ and 2200+
3) Pl refere to line item 2 above.
Sir,
I have written SAT on jan 28 and got a SAT score of 1680. Is it possible to get EEE in NIT W or T. Is it possible to get mech in NIT rourkela?
Last year the cut-off was 1800 for the first list. Is the cut-off 1440 for first list this year?
No for your first querry. Fair chances in all but top 7-8 colleges. Yes for last querry.
Sir,
I have scored 2350 in SAT subject tests. What is the chance of me getting ECE in NITK?
Good score. Good chances for your 1st pref
Hi Mr. Tyagi
You are doing a great job. For a SAT score of 2390 , kindly advice : Which is the best engineering course that can be taken with bright future prospects? Which is the NIT that can be choosen for this course ? What is the money that is to be paid while filling up the admission forms to NIT ?
I am impressed with all who have scored 2350+ as they can choose what they like. IIIT-H/NIT-T/DTU/NIT-K. For money part, please refer DASA rules.
Dear Raj,
Since my son is not likely to score good marks in CBSE class 12 and doubtful about SAT subject performance, I tried other options in advance and applied in 3 places for mechanical engg. SRM, VIT and Manipal uni. All three have given provisional admission in just couple of days. Are these universities OK by good standards if i dont get seat under NIIT – DASA ? Any views on these 3 ? Tks
Kahan raja Bhoj, aur kahan Gangu teli. Please try to get admission to top 4-5 NITs if you could. (sorry for hurting anyone’s feelings- I cannot resist it as there is simply no comparison of top 4-5 NITs with any private colleges)
Dear Raj,
Greetings,
Will it be difficult to get admission under NRI Gulf quota in College of Engineering , Pune if my son gets say 65% marks and wants to pursue Mechanical Engg ? The website shows cut off marks for 2011 but it is confusing to understand the distribution of leftover quota under PIO/ FN category. Please advise. Tks
Difficult.
sir, can u please name the best nit in ECE and CSE
NIT-T
Hello sir,
Your blog has helped me alot..Well i still have some inquiries..and i would appreciate if you would guide me.My first question is that i have a score of 2160 in my SAT 2 broken into 780 Math2, 710 chem and 650 physics, are these scores good for PEC chandigarh, nit warangal, nit kurukshetra or MNNIT Allahabad, for the course, Computer Science and Engineering..Also, i want to improve my physics score, so i m most likely to take the may 5 sat subject test, would the scores from that testing date reach dasa or is it too late…Also, can you tell me onething, do we have to send our scores to NITK or not because when i was filling up the form, it asked me about my registration number and it didnt mention anything about sending the scores…
thanks alot
Your scores are good for the noted college/branch. Yes, 5 May scores would be fine.
I am applying for admission under DASA scheme for my son this year, by sending the fee of US $ 7250. As you know, job in the Gulf region is not secure these days. In case due to unforseen circumstances we have to return to India, is it possible to pay fees for subsequent years in equivalent Indian rupees.
I don’t think it should be a problem under DASA admissions. Private colleges for NRIs have this problem for sure. You could confirm this from horse’s mouth.
First of all let me congratulate you for the wonderful work you are doing sir,
My son has finished 12th has a sat score of 2220..He wants either cse or mech in nitk how much should he improve his score by?
Can you pl tell me wich college is better nitk and dtu?
A score of 2220 may not be good enough for NITK. Improve score to beyond 2350 if possible. I personally like DTU for better ranking, placement and faculty.
Sir,
I posted regarding architecture also can u pl guide me on which colleges are there for architecture and what is the minimum score requirement
for arch NIIT & c are good. score in the range of 2000-2100
Hi Raj,
My daughter has scored 2080 in SAT II. She will be attempting to improve her score on May 5th. With her present score which institutes are possible options for CSE. What are her chances in PEC.
May get other than T,W, K and PEC.
Hello,
Two queries -
1. Some institutes have different fees for the students being selected through DASA. Like IIIT Hyderabad charge $10000 p.a., DEC takes $5000 only. Why so?
2. What a student can loose in doing B Tech from Nirma Institute of Engineering, Ahmedabad in comparision to doing that from NIT Suratkal or NIT-W or NIT-T?
1) Depends on subsidy/funding from state.
2) Reputation. It matters to pass-out from top 20 Tech colleges.
dear sir
can i get into nitw for ECE with 2270 in sat 2
For sure.
Dear Sir,
Shall be grateful for an update with regards to NIT, Delhi, Is it going to be operational from Delhi Campus in the academic year 2012-13. I also understand that DTU and NSIT are not covered in DASA Scheme, what is their criteria for admission for NRIs Student. Finally if one has to chose between NIT, Kurukshetra and PEC, Chandigarh, which one should I chose.
An urgent reply would be highly appreciated.
Regards,
TA
Till few months back, even land was not acquired. Till last year DTU had FN/PIO/NRI seats- visit their website.Prefer PEC amongst the two.
How long does the SAT score take to reach NITK?
The results go to NITK online as soon as it is out at CollegeBoard.
Sir,
I would like you to rank the colleges DTU,NITK,COEP,NITT
NITT=DTU>NITK>>COEP
In what way is DTU better than NITK? wich one do you personally think i should opt for if by gods grace i get a score good enough for both?
Ranking and placements for sure.
Hello Sir,
I have a SAT score of 2190 and wish to apply for NIT Trichy or Warangal in Mechanical or ECE. Is the score sufficient ? May I know the cut-offs for each branch?
Thank you veyr much
Low chances for T and high for W. T would need about 2200-2250.
Sir,
Im planing to apply for barch in NITT and NITC through. Can you please let me know if i have to take NATA test?
For DASA only SAT2 needed. no NATA
Hello Raj,
No words to express my feelings of gratitude for the job you are doing. My son is willing to apply for UG engineering through DASA in 2013-14. He wants to write SAT II in June 2012. Where he should send the score? NIT-Suratkal says do not send that to them as they are not sure of continuing the process of admission in 2013-14.
DASA scheme is announced separately every year. There is no need to send the scores anywhere since the scores can be checked later by the concerned body thru the candidate code on CollegeBoard website. I am hopeful that the scheme would continue in one form or another. Personally, I assure everyone that this website would provide the platform to chalk-out future course of action or representations as needed.
hello sir..i got 1790 score in sat2..can i get mechanical branch in mnnit if i apply in first list itself…because last year students opted for mechanical of mnnit til 3rd list wich is after june sat scores..
Fair chances.
dear raj would you kingly tell me what is the cut-off for civil in suratkal, calicut and warangal(appox)
Last year it was 1880,1800 and 1800 respectively in the first list.
Hello, Please let me know what is the cut of list to be expected for DTU in Computer science, this year? Also what are the good colleges for Computer Science, especially in North India? I have never been to India but I will like to Pursue my education in India as I believe it is the best. I will really appreciate if you can help me by telling me which points should we consider for admission. I have 2160 in my SATII score what colleges, can I get admission? How is the overall Personality Development in PEC, Chandigarh.
Thanks in advance for your help and I really appreciate your forum it provides a lot of information,
Last year, the cut-off in DTU was 1500 (Maths & Phy only)
North India CSE in order of pref for NRI/PIO seats, DTU, PEC, MNNIT, IIIT-A, MNIT-Jaipur. PEC is pretty good as it has good infra, no electricty/water cuts, single seat hostel, faculty, cosmopolitan. The best part is food. However, academics is bit tougher and not to be taken casually.
Your scores are not good enough for DTU, on margins for PEC and fine for the rest.
Dear Mr. Tyagi,
I am interested in applying to DTU this year. I understand that in order to make an application to DTU, one of the requirement is to submit a documentary proof of atleast 05 years stay abroad. What kind of documenray proof would be appropriate in this regard e.g. a certificate from the overseas school Principal stating that the student has been studying in the school for the last 05 years or copies of passport would be needed by DTU showing the immigration entry and exit date stamps in order to establish the NRI eligibility requirements of 05 years
Would really appreciate your expeditious reply.
Thanks…………
The rules do not elaborate on valid means of proof. However, other institutes check passport at the time of counselling wrt entry/exits on passport. At the stage of application, report cards and certificate from principal is normally followed. Such schemes normally accept the report cards at prelim stage but do thorough checks during actual admissions. As usual, please do not treat this as official statement.
Hello,
Just want to know when will be NRI Admissions form be available for DTU, also I have a SAT 2 score of Maths and Physics for 1430, do you think I will be able to get admission in Computer Science branch in DTU. Also I am planning to apply for PEC through DASA for Computer Engineering, what is the cut of list and in your opinion which college would be better for Computer Engineering - NIT Warnagal, NIT KUK or PEC, Chandigarh. I am really confused as I do not want to make the wrong choice, and I also want a god college which also has a good crowd, and emphasises on overall personality development. Looking forward for a reponse from you.
Thanks
Please keep a close watch at DTU website. For 1430, COE looks very difficult. DTU is better than PEC. NIT-W is better than other choices. “Good crowd” is very subjective term, some believe that higher AIEEE ranked students constitute good crowd and NIT-T & W are good choice for that criteria. Other’s may believe that DTU, PEC and NITK have good cosmopolitan crowd.
Hello sir,i am a resident of india and my parents are too.but my father is a marine engineer and working in foreign flag ships/under foreign owners and is maintaining his nri status as per the indian govt regulations and working in abroad for more than 6 months/year and his salary is in dollars(twelve thousand dollars per month).he got indian CDC(continue discharge certificate) issued by dg shipping govt of india.
Can i apply for nit under nri quota or please advise any other reputed instutions in india.what are the requirments to apply under nri quota(examinations etc)
You could try in govt state-level colleges that has about 5% seats for NRI’s (BTW the first pref is for gulf NRI’s, then those who study outside India and finally whose parents are NRI.
Dear Raj
I was also wondering if u could suggest any scholarships for PIOs entering NITK.
Keep track of following websites for scholarship
http://www.edcilindia.co.in/
http://moia.gov.in/services.aspx?id1=45&id=m4&idp=45&mainid=23
Hi Raj are these scholarships for OCis also ?
OCI s are covered as scholarship includes PIOs.
Dear Raj,
I got a score of 2010 in my first SAT II in December. I wanted a stream in Electrcial or something related. Can i get in NITK, or any of top 3 NITs. Or should i take SAT again? replay ASAP
Regards,
Sam
NITK may not be available for the scores. Will get T or W for sure.
Sir,
Im currently appearing my board exam..i have got sat score 2220..aspiring to go to nit k for either cse or mech..
how much would u recommend to be a decent score which i can get in may which may help me get a sure admission in nit k…
and can u rank iiit h nit k and dce for cse and mech respectively
thanks a lot
I would think the cut-off for NITK Mech/CSE would be in the range of 2320-2360.
Sir, With a SAT score of 1800, what are the chances of getting EEE in NIT Calicut. My son prefers Mechanical as 1st option, EEE as 2nd option and Civil as 3rd option all at NIT Calicut. Kindly advise what are the chances of getting the allotment.
Good chances to get Civil in NIT-C for 1800. Difficult to get Mech or EEE.
Dear sir,
My son has secured 2220 in SAT 2, and he is interested in CSE.Which of these institutes(IIIT-H, NIT-W or NIT-T) do you think is the best? Also with this score is it possible for him to get a seat in the first list?
Thanks
All 3 are good. IIIT-Hyd looks better, however non-DASA and no noticification till date for this year.. Good chance to get T and W.
Dear Sir,
My son wants to take addmission in IIIT Hyderabad CSE, his SAT2 score is 2400.
Could you please let me know the usual time line for sending online/offline application, appearing in the interview conducted by IIT Hyderbad and reporting to the institute.
How many seats are available for CSE & ECE in IIIT Hyderabad.
Many thanks in advance for the early reply.
Appreciate your usual support and your valuable guidance.
Best Regards,
While DASA scheme has a lot of history and stability of the scheme, admissions to the non-DASA system is unpredictable- there is no guarantee that there would be any seats for OCI/NRI/FN this year. Please keep a close watch on their websites for any more info.
I have sat score of 2320+.
For Mech can i go for Nit Surat ?
What r the adv Trichi Mech have over SVNIT Mech ?
Please note that the reputation of top 3 NITs (T, W & K) is much higher than rest of NITs in terms of pool of students, placements and opportunities. The top 3 NITs attract a lot of students who manage to crack IIT JEE but don’t get good branch in IITs. My POV.
Dear sir,
I am thinking of my son to pursue Mech.Engg. Would you pls suggest good colleges for Mech. Engg. He has got 2350 in SAT II. Second thing, what are future options / prospects of higher studies in Mech. Engg. Thanks and Best regards.
For Mech, NIT-T, W and K are pretty good (however, I would rate DCE and NIT-T as the best amongst AIEEE intake). The branch is one of the best for future prospects.
Dear Sir,
My son has got 2040 marks in SAT2 exams. Is this score enough to get ECE/CSE/Mechanical branches at NITK. Pl advise.
Unlikely to get these branches IN nitk
Dear Mr Raj,
As informed earlier he got 2040 marks in SAT2 and wish to reappear on MAY 5th exam. In this regard pl advise for the following.
1) If he submits his available SAT2 score now , will he be able to submit his improved scores later ?
2) If yes for Q 1 , and he sends his results before May 29th, will they consider the improved scores for announcement in list 1.
1) Yes, you can submit improved scores later.
2) Yes, DASA would consider the best scores in individual subjects (ofcourse when submitted in time)
Sir, my son has got 2160 in his SAT 2 subject tests. What are his chances of getting mechanical engg in PEC Chandigarh. Which other branches in PEC Chandigarh are considered good. Thanks.
Last year PEC Mech cut-off was 2060, so score looks good.PEC has very good CSE, EEC, IT and Aero branch apart from Mech.
sir
could you please tell me whether doing courses like ece, cse, eee in colleges such as nit-t,nit-c and nit-k will make a big difference from each other?in the sense is each college department in the respective field varied in their reputation and quality? if so,could you mention which 2 colleges are on par and well reecognised for the mentioned courses and what according to you would be the probable cutoff for eee at nitk, i was able to obtain the probable cutoff for other courses from the previous comments. Also, assuming if area did not matter to you and if you had a perfect score which nit would you like to pursue your btech in keeping mind the hostel, campus, faculty, food, crowd and activities and most importantly the overall growth and development of the student?
sorry for troubling you and thanking you in advance
akash
There are two components of success 1) Individual’s skills and attitude, 2) The impact of the college on the students. For item 2, the college does matter to a large extent to get the initial launch pad. Brushing aside pref in DASA, NITT> NITW > NITK >> the rest for a typical AIEEE candidate. If an individual is looking for cosmopolitan city, good food and extra curricular activities, NITK is quite good. Otherwise academically, NITT is best
how to prepare for SAT II subject tests ?
Which books to follow? and how to plan ? She just finished inter 1st year.
My daughter is us citizen and goal is to get a seat in IIIT Hyderabad in Computer science engineering in 2013 -2014. how much score she needs?
Is it tough to get through personal Interview IIITH?
For SAT2 prep, please visit following link
http://rajtyagi.com/2010/03/sat-ii-subject-tests-everything-about-it/
I would think any score above 2300 is good (PCM). We haven’t got any feedback on IITH interview. We are providing this platform to share experience if someone has been thru such experience.
Dear sir,
Wat if I’ve not got my choice of course in the first list, but I’ve already accepted it. Then in the second list if I get my choice of course can change to tht?
Once a branch/college accepted, the name is not considered in the 2nd list. If you don’t like the branch/college in 1st list, don’t accept and opt for 2nd list.
Hi Raj,
My son is in 12th grade writing his boards in UAE, he wishes to do his CSE in NIT-K his SAT 2 PCM results of jan'12 are 1820, now again he will give in May. What are the score he needs to get to get into NIT-K for CSE?
Thanks.
>2350
hi…i got 2320 in sat subject test….can i get Mech in nit-k ??
Last year the cut-off for NITK mech was 2310. This year, the cut-off may go up by 50.
sir, do you think 2140 will be enough to get CSE in NITT or NITW this year? or should i try again in may?
If you had this score last year, you would have got admissions to any of the two institutes. For this year, suggest to improve the scores by 80-100 overall.
I will be sending multiple SAT 2 scores to DASA since I will write another test in May to improve my score. However, the registration numbers for the two tests are different and because DASA asks for this number, and at the same time allows multiple scores to be sent, will I be able to send both my registration numbers? Looking at last years brochure, I only saw one field for entering the registration number.
Thank you.
dear sir,
could u please estimate the SAT score needed to get for an admission in to arch for this year, considering i want to get into NITC or NITT
and score for biotecnology in NITW.
thank you
For arch, my estimates are betwn 2050-2150. For Biotech, 1800 should be good enough in any institute.
Can you please explain what document has to be submitted along with hard copy of the application, to prove that my son has studied abroad for 3 years. Further, what document is required for residential requirement.
I suggest to contact dasa@nitk.ac.in for the exact requirement for filling application form. I would also appreciate response if anyone has info in this regard. Let’s help each other and information flow to be bi-directional.
Sir,
Please note that I have written the mail to DASA regarding the concern for shortage of time for submission of hard copy of 12th marksheet 2012, because the marksheets usually are available around 20th May and DASA is asking to submit the hard copy of the marksheet by 29th May.
I recieved the following reply mail for NIITK:-
In DASA 2012-13 UG programme the merit list prepared based on SAT scores
only.
So, for our reference first you can send by e-mail the scanned copy of the
original marks card/attested copy of the mark card of qualifying exam to
us before May 29, 2012, then at the time of admission you have to produce
the original marks card qualifying examination.
I would advise you to write a mail from your side to DASA and keep the reply for records for yourself.
Regards,
Manish
Thanks Raj. Appreciate your quick response.
Dear Raj,
I have been following your blog for the last three years and i feel the need to repeat what others have been saying all along (Good deeds need to be spread, bad deeds have their own wings and need no support from us). You are really doing a great service to the nation by helping the kids plan their future. I would go ahead and recommend that you be inducted in the Rajya Sabha and if I had any say in the formation of the cabinet I would recommend two portfolios for you i.e. one of children welfare and second for pravasiya bhartiya.
Raj, I am a mechanical engineer, north indian, serving in oil industry in UAE. My daughter shall be going to class IX of cbse board. As per my limited knowledge I think Process Engineering and Instrumentation are two good branches for girls (it gives them the option to work from office and are not required to visit sites regularly). I would like to know what are the good colleges imparting quality education in the above two branches. I do not have any preference over the region. I think whole of India belongs to us Indians. However, the discipline in the college and safety of the girl child is my priority in selection of the college.
You may recommend colleges falling under DASA or otherwise and would also like to know if there is any other branch recommended for a girl child.
Appreciate your quick reply. Thanks
While I appreciate your feelings, I am quite attached to ground. I just wish that all of us contribute positively, even in a small way, to help our society that we curse so much.
Outside of IIT system, following colleges provide best chem. Engg:
BITS Pilani, NITK, Mumbai Univ, NITT, NITW, HBTI, Thapar Univ, Anna Univ, NITC, DTU, NIT-D,
For Inst, just get into NIT-Trichy, look nowhere else.
My take on the issue is that I don’t have any preferred branch for girl students. Back in 1986, we had a girl branch-mate in Mech engg. I know many brilliant girls going to civil engg (we had one of the best scorer in DASA who opted for Civi about 2 years back). I know many people simply prefer a circuit branch for girls (CSE, ECE, EEE, Elec, Inst) or a chemical engg.
Dear Raj,
Appreciate the quick response from you. I do agree with you that if each of us start giving back a small portion to the society, the world would definitely be a lovely place to live in.
Raj, just another query arising from your reply….Do BITS Pilani / Mumbai Univ offer direct admission to NRI sponsored candidates or do they need to compete with the resident indians?
Second query is: As on date what is the cut off marks (of SAT Subject Test) for getting Instrumentation in NITT.
Regards,
No NRI seats in BITS Pilani, all seats are filled on merit. Not sure about Mumbai Univ NRI seats as on date (they used to have but seems discontinued from couple of years). In Maharashtra, COE-Pune is the only college of repute with NRI seats (non-DASA, separate process).
For NITT-Inst, SAT score of about 2000 would be required.
Dear Sir,
Kindly tell me if any of the following certifictes have to be attested by the Indian embassy for submission of the same for verification at time of counselling for DASA/AIEEE students:
TC, Bonafide certificate, Conduct & character certificate from school, 12th std mark sheet of cbse & any other certificate?
Please reply whether attestation by embassy is required?
Awaiting your reply,
JD
I really do not have a definitive answer on this. I would welcome comments from gentle persons who have gone thu this. In case of doubt or no response on the query, it would be safer to get the certificates attested by embassy. One thing I know for sure is that the reporting college would check the original passport of the candidate to verify overseas stay during councelling – so do keep the originals passport during reporting.
If I were to send my second SAT2 score and it reaches on time, will it in anyway deter my chances of getting into the first list?
If the scores reach in time, no problem at all for submitting your second scores. Note that only the best scores in each subject would be considered.
Hi,
I am a student in class 12th. I am unable to decide on ECE or CSE for my UG studies. How can i test my aptitude in the courses so that i get a better picture of which branch is suitable for me ?
Thanks in advance !
Also i would like to know the best institute for ECE in India in your opinion.
Thanks!
Amongst the NITs for ECE, NITT= NITW > NITK
Please follow below link to help choose amongst the two branches
http://rajtyagi.com/2009/12/which-engg-branch-to-choose-in-aieee-ece-or-ece/
Dear Mr. Tyagi,
I have a couple of Q's for you.
I plan on pursuing CSE from either IIIT or NITK..(SAT SCORE 2400)
My question is that completing B.Tech in which of these two colleges will enable an easier entry into PG courses in USA ? ( basically which of the two is better known in US and better recognized)
I know that for CSE IIIT-H>NIT-K as already stated by you. But i'm worried about IIIT-H being a relatively new institute (est. 1998 i think) and thus not being known in the US.
My second Q is that is there any way i can keep track of the number of 2400's from a country (like u mentioned that 8 from Bahrain have secured 2400) ?
Thanks !
For CSE branch in India, I consider, IIIT-H as one of the top 4 institute leaving behind some of the IITs as well (in terms of program content, the PhD’s the faculty has and the research work that goes in the institute; basically impact of the college on the student and not vice versa). Admissions to MS in US is dependent on so many criterias (GRE score, students resume and interests, reco etc), and I don’t think IIIT-H would fair any poorer compared to any IIT/NIT for that matter.
There is no harm in contacting some of the aluminies of both the colleges on social media and find out the fact by yourself.
The SAT scores are considered confidential by CollegeBoard and not published country-wise.
Dear Sir,
I would like to know, if DTU will be taking NRI students for B.Tech courses this year (2012-13), as so far there has been no announcement made. Also their current seat matrix does not show any such comment.
With a SAT 2 score of 1560 in Maths and Physics, can we expect a child to get ECE in DTU?
Thanks and best regards,
As on date, there is no admission notice for NRI/FN in DTU. Generally, the admission notice for NRI/Foreign Nationals comes late in April/May. Your SAT2 scores should be good enough for your preferred branch
Hi
we are US citizens and holding a OCI card too. My daughter scored 2300 in SAT 2 and we are looking for placement in NITT, computer science engineering. I understand being a foreign citizens we have the option of Dasa admissions. Is Dasa the only option? Do you suggest any Plan B?
Your scores are good enough for the preffered branch. If you meet all the requirement of DASA including class 12th result by the prescribed data and minimum scores, I won’t suggest any Plan B in view of decent SAT score. Admissions under DASA are very transparent. Just for the sake of having a Plan B, you may consider private colleges like VIT, Manipal, Thapar alongwith some good state colleges like DTU and IIIT-Hyd.
Thanks for your guidance and useful information. My daughter is currently writing her cbse 12th board exams. As you have mentioned, we will submit our application to Dasa by the prescribed date. Thank you once again.
Dear Mr Raj,
My son is studying in Singapore (CBSE XII Std). His score in SAT II is 2250. Can he get Chem in NITT? He has also made it to University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign and Purdue (both Chem Engineering). Which one should we go for?
Regards,
Lt Col V Ramesh (Retd)
Yes, with a score of 2250, Chem in NITT should not be a problem at all.
Personally, I am a great fan of of US-based education, especially at MS and research level. Since individual financials are a good part of decision-making process for US education, many parents prefer to get BE done in India and MS from US to get best value for money.
Dear Mr Raj,
That was prompt. Thanks a ton.
Regards,
Ramesh
Sir, how much is the minimum score required for Civil at NIT-C?
>1900. Kindly keep in mind that this is only for guidanace purposes and the actual SAT scores could be lower or higher for a given branch/college than prediction made on this blog.
Dear Sir,
I am thinking of applying to IIIT-H for CSE through my SAT 1 or Aptitude test scores. They require 90 percentile in Maths and 85 percentile in English sections. I got 96 percentile in Maths, 95 percentile in Critical Reading and 91 percentile in Writing. Do you think I will obtain a spot in CSE branch in IIIT-H?
Thank You.
When selection process is objective and key criteria is a numerical number (eg SAT 2 score for DASA), it is easy to predict the outcome. However, when the selection process is complex and also includes an interview (eg IIIT-H), it is not fair to predict an outcome.
Dear Raj Sir,
My sons SAT II score is 1990. He will work on improving it in May. The branch we are interested is only CSE. Our choices are as below.
CSE at NITK/ NITT/NITW/IIIT-H/NITC/MNNIT in that order.
We know that he can apply at IIITH only if he improves his SAT scores to above 2000.
We are aware that NITK/ NITT/NITW/IIIT-H are highly rated by you, but have not heard much about NITC/MNNIT. How do you rate them? It looks like that is where we will finally end up.
So in case he cannot make it into NITK/ NITT/NITW/IIIT-H in CSE, instead of NITC/MNNIT do you suggest we opt for IT branch at NITK since its the top rated college?
Or if you think we should stick to CSE, then instead of NITC/MNNIT you suggest we go for BIT Mesra/VIT/Manipal IT?
We totally trust your knowledge and judgement. Kindly guide us.
Best Regards & God Bless,
Bharathi.
As stated in previous message on CSE branch,
IIIT-H > NITT= NITW >NITK > PEC> MNIT >NITC> VIT > BIT MESRA >MIT.
I would suggest that first go for the branch in any of the colleges (IIIT-H,NITT, NITW, NITK, PEC, MNIT & NITC, IIIT-A) and if cannot get in any of these colleges then only opt for lower-pref branch like IT.
I would like to congratulate and thank you on making a website which NRIs constantly refer to. I researched the rankings of the engineeering schools in India and they were a bit ambiguous. I would like your personal preference. Could you please compare VIT, IIIT-Hyderabad, NIT-K, NIT-W for Computer Engineering ?
Thanks a lot.
For CSE branch, IIIT-H > NIT,T= NIT,W >NIT,K > VIT. This is as per branch selection by AIEEE students for previous years.
Hi sir,
Iam studying in Dubai. Iam preparing for AIEEE exams. As iam from Tamilnadu can I opt for Home state catecory instead of national level?
By default, AIEEE would provide you with AIR (all india rank) and state rank. For NRIs, the address on the passport is considered home state for ranking purposes.
Dear Raj
My son has completed 10+2 from emirates, we are citizens of India, hyderabad, looking for admission in MBBS. I have the following questions.
1. can my son appear EAMCET 2012 for MBBS
2. If the elegibility is not there then only NRI qouta/management seats can be taken, Do you have any contact numbers with whom we can contact.
3. Can we go to any other states also for MBBS admission, we are looking a lower grade college to minimize the cost.
Thanking you
yours truly,
A Ahmed
1) I really do not track state-level colleges or their regulatory bodies info since all states have different rules for residency to appear for the exam. To be specific following is the rule for eamcet: Candidates should belong to the state of Andhra Pradesh. The candidates should satisfy local/non-local status requirements as laid down in the A.P. Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admission) order, 1974 as subsequently amended.
2) I really get tens of request to facilitate admissions to MBBS courses. However, I really do not have the time or intent for this. In the past, I had shared the contact details of the intermediataries but the feedback of those people had not been good. My 2 cents would be to do this deal yourself without relying on anyone.
3) For NRI seat, you can get admissions to any state.
with a score of 2020 in SAT II is there a chance of getting seat in B.Arch at NIT-T?
B Arch is only offered in only few colleges and no. of seats are also low. It really depends how many students with what scores apply for BArch. With the given score, there is some chance but suggest to improve the scores by about 100
Dear Raj Sir,
Do you know the fee details for BTech (CSE) under DASA at IIIT, Hyderabad ?

Dear Sir,
My son has scored 1800 in SAT and prefers to take up either Mechanical or EEE in NIT Calicut. What are his chances of getting the seat, or should we see some other alternative admission.
With the given score, the chances are very low. Suggest to have some standby options.
However, I request everyone that even if the probability of any particular branch/college is low for the given SAT score, but do write even some choices that require higher scores. Every year is different (but certainly getting CSE/ECE/Mech with 1800 score in NITK/T/W is very remote).
My daughter has scored 2300 in SAT2. What are her chances for CSE in NIT-T?
More than 75% chances with a score of 2300 in NIT-T CSE
Sir, I would like to know the minimum marks for B.Arch courses, especially in NIT calicut.
Does NITK offer B.Arch Courses as well?
>2100. Only NIT-C, T offer Arch in top colleges.
Dear Sir,
Could you please help me to choose CSE , among Trichy ,Surathkal and IIIT Hyderabad.
I have read your valuable comments regarding ECE v/s CSE, still the doubt persist as both have their own benefits.
Appreciate your valuable help and usual support.
Best Regards,
MANISH
For CSE, IIIT:H> NITT =NITK
Mr.Tyagi,
My son has scored 2340/2400 in the SAT Subject Tests (800 in phy, chem; 740 in math). What are his chances of getting admission in NIT-K Mech. Engg. under the DASA Scheme? Also if he does't get NIT-K, which is the next best option among NIT-T, NIT-W & NIT-C for Mech.?
Thanks,
JD
2340 for NITK could be touch and go case this year. NIT-T is the best choice for Mech.
Dear sir,
My son is having SAT II score of 2350. He wants to opt for Mech. or ECE. He is also appearing for BITSAT in May 2012.
I shall be obliged if you rank these colleges, BITS- Goa, BITS- Hyd'bad, DCE, NITK, NIT T, Anna uni. Guindy.
Best Regards.
Vandana
Please refer to below post on relative college ranking done by some of the reputable organisations
http://rajtyagi.com/2011/05/list-of-indian-engineering-college-rankings/
Personal pref: NITK, DCE=NIT-T, Anna, BITS-Hyd, BITS-Goa
dear sir,
what is an estimated mark that will get me a seat in NIT -Calicut in mechanical enginnering?.please consider the fact that more people are applying this year with better scores than before
>2200.
dear sir
could u please tell the difference in electronics electrical engg & electronics telecomm. engg circulum-wise. and future scope
What score would be enough for production/industrial engineering? Particularly in NIT-C.
Also, is there a difference between the two?
Sir,
I already have one SAT score recieved and will be writing again in May. Is it possible that I can send my first SAT score and later send the May score if it is better than my previous one? Or can I only send just one score.
You can send your second score as well. DASA would consider the best scores in the each subject.
Sir,
I have secured a score of 1800 in the January SAT2 test, and will be writing again in May. Will this score be enough for Civil engineering and/or Architecture?
Also, for Architecture would they require fulfillment of additional exams such as NATA? Or will it only be based on SAT2 and the school qualifying exam result?
For Arch under DASA, you don’t need NATA or any other qual- only SAT2 scores. However, there are only few colleges under DASA that offer Arch. With your scores, you would have to settle with college which is not top 5 DASA colleges (reference available in the main post and comments)
Sir,
i need admission in NIT-K with EEE branch. wat would be the minimum score to get admission in the same?Do all the seats through DASA get filled up every year or are there some seats remaining at the last ?
For NITK-EEE, 2300+. Top 7-8 colleges are completely filled.
What is the expected cut off for nit t and nit w for ece?! thanx in advance
2300 and 2200.
sir, my physics score in 12th standard is xx but my PCM score in 12 th standard is >xx%. am i eligible to apply for dasa???????
Yes.
dear sir,
is a score of 2240 good enough to get a seat in NIT -Calicut Mechanical engineering?…also is AP level physics and calculus knowledge good enough to do well in first year of btech
Good enough. First year in Engg would have advanced physics and Maths. But no need to worry- just attend ALL classes (no bunking of classes) and study as you studied in 12th- It would take you places in the class; simple rules- but very few follow even this.
Dear Raj Sir,
Could you kindly clarify the curriculum difference in Computer Science Engg and IT Engg branches? Also is either of those 2 superior over the other career prospectswise? Why is there more demand for CSE than IT? Also which branch do you see having more demand from top rankers this year ECE, MECH, CSE, EEE etc. Please help.
Regards,
Bharathi.
Computer Engineering involves both Electrical Engineering and Computer Science courses . CSE gives training in electrical engineering, software design and hardware-software integration instead of just software engineering or electrical engineering. A Computer engineering student studies the design of digital hardware and software systems including communications systems and computers. They are involved in many aspects of computing from the designing of individual microprocessors, personal computers, and supercomputers to circuit design.
On the other hand, Information technology deals with the study of designing, development, implementation, support or management of computer-based information systems, particularly software applications and computer hardware. It involves the use of electronic computers and computer software to convert, store, protect, process, transmit, and securely retrieve information.
In nutshell
IT – Troubleshoot computers/networks, design infrastructure
CSE – Computer hardware and software
For bright students, CSE is better. Those who want to take easy in engg can opt for IT. Average salary in CSE is higher. North Indians keep liking CSE (basis AIEEE branch selection per All India Rank) while rest of India is split between ECE, Mech and CSE for top choice
Sir, I got 2320 in SAT. I am trying for Computer Eng. in Surathkal. Is my score enough or should i write SAT again? Breakdown of my scores is: maths and phy-780. Chem-760.
Thanks!!
Please re-take the exam and improve score beyond 2360 if you are particular about NIT-K top 3 branches (ECE, Mech, CSE). In a small place like Bahrain, there are 6 students already this year who have scored 2400, and couple of more with 2390!!! . Last year in Bahrain, I remember only one 2400 and one 2390.Way To Go!!!
Dear Sir,
My son has appeared in SATII in May2011 and secured 2400.
Will i be able to get ECE in Surathkal in DASA 2012-13?
What is the criteria for merit if the SATII scores are same for two students.
Appreciate your help and support.
Regards,
MANISH JAIN
Till last year, there had been no tie for students getting 2400, so there has been no published rule from DASANIT.org for such cases. I would stick my neck out and say the minimum marks required to get in NIT-K CSE, ECE and Mech would be lower than 2400 (my expectation is between 2350-2370, but I may be wrong this year). For scores less than 2400, tie is broken by Maths, Phy and Chemistry scores. If this year is gonna see 2400 as cut-off for NITK best branches, I would think DASA would declare the scores of 12th are to be used to break tie.
You may also try getting in touch with dasanit.org to clarify the issue if you feel strongly about it.
Dear Sir,
As DASA 2012-13 has been anounced, what will be the last date for submission of 12th marksheet to DASA?
My son is appearing for 12th exam in March 2012 and the marsheet usualy are available only after 15 th May.
Please advise on the above.
Regards,
MANISH JAIN
DASA schedule is perfect for CBSE board as the results of 12th would be out around 20th May and you need to submit scores only by 25 May. For those, whose board declares the 12th results a bit late- still no need to worry as scores upto 15 Sep would be accepted per below DASA rule:
Must have secured a minimum of 60% aggregate marks or 6.75 CGPA on a 10 point scale or equivalent grades in all the subjects of the
qualifying examination. Candidates appearing for the qualifying examination with the above-mentioned compulsory subjects by 25th May
2012 and expecting their final results latest by 15th September 2012 may also apply.
dear sir,
my son is doing his class 12 in kuwait. he secured 1800/2400 in the SAT test. as per his interest, he prefers to opt mechanical/EEE/civil engineering in calicut or trichy with more preference to mech. engg. in calicut….. as per the new brochure released by dasa, the minimum pass mark is 1440 and since my son has already crossed it, will he be considered for his 1st choice.
I would suggest to start considering only NIT-C as NIT-T would not be possible with the scores you noted.
DASA starts allocating seats to higher ranked students based on SAT scores. By the time your turn would come to claim one of the left-over seats, I can only see civil in NIT-C amongst your choices.
thanks for the quick reply,
what is the difference in production engg, and mechanical engg
Production engineering is the study of manufacturing technology with management science whereas mechanical engineering is concerned with mechanical systems, thermodynamics, kinematics and energy and related fields.
Mechanical engineers focus more on product development works to design and manufacture new products for customers whereas Production engineers focuses more on making manufacture more resourceful. Product engineers work on the products and process designed by mechanical engineers.
Dear sir,
My son is in XII std, studying in Kuwait. His SAT II score is 2350. He intends to join either Mech / ECE / Computer engg.
Would you pls suggest which colleges should be selected for each branch ?
I also eye admission in Delhi College of Engg. / NITK / Trichy / PEC , chandigarh. Would you pls suggest your order of preference.
Admission to DCE is not covered under DASA ? college is not listed in the DASA list. How do we have to apply ?
Awaiting your reply.
Best regards
Vandana
College selection is a complex matter and people even prefer native city, native state, South India(in any case it is not rgionalism but improved convenience). Some choose Metro city only and others will not settle in non-cosmopolitan city suiting to NRI tastes. I even met a freind who said only Pune- doesn’t matter if there is no NIT there.
Keeping above in view and using freedom of expression (being a north Indian based in Gurgaon), I personally prefer DCE, NITK, NIT-T, IIIT-Hyd, PEC in that order. DCE and IIIT-Hyd are non-DASA and one has to directly apply to the colleges when the admissions are announced for that year. This in no way is for or against any college.
Dear Mr. Raj, many thanks for your valuable service to NRI community. Hats off and please keep up the excellent job.
On Seat allotment procedure, DASA says “Seat allotment will be strictly based on the merit list prepared on the basis of SAT Subject Test scores only and the choices given by the candidate, in the order of their priority”.
I have a query on the above, could you please clarify the below hypothetical scenario (same college, where only one seat available in branch ‘B’):
Mr X scored 2300 in SAT-2 and his 1st priority is branch ‘A’ & his second priority is branch ‘B’.
Whereas Mr Y scored 2250 and his 1st priority is branch ‘B’.
In case of non-availability of branch “A’ for Mr X, will he get admission in branch ‘B’ straightaway or it goes to Mr ‘Y’ upon his priority setting?
Thanks in advance..
Akhil
Simply put, the college/branches are given to Nth ranker first. Once Nth ranker has been alotted seat, the choice of N+1 rankers is satisfied out of the left over seats.
Dear sir,
My son is in Std XII, in Kuwait. His SAT II score is 2350. He wants to pursue either Mech / ECE / Computer Engg.
Could you please suggest which colleges should be selected for each course ( For ex. Mech is good in college A / ECE is good in college B etc ).
Recently we see people's rush towards core braches like Mech / elect / ECE etc, earlier Computer Engg was hotly pursued. Would you pls throw some light on this change / thinking of people. Is Computer engg over crowded, but employment opportunities are also ample.
I would like my son to pursue MBA after engg degree.
Need your valuable advice.
Thanks and regards
dear sir
I would like to ask which branch of the following has more scope in terms of demand of personel 1.mechanical
2.electronics and telecomm.
3.computers
i have a sat 2 score of 2350,currently and undertaking 12th in middle east
Frankly, branch selection is an individuals choice. In the same fashion that kids have different tastes and preferences in selecting birthday cakes: vanila, strawberry, chocolate, black forest and so many I cannot even pronounce.. The opportunities for the top 10-20% of students in each branch is similar. The SWOT analysis for each student has to be done for branch selection. My apologies for not spelling out the branch as it may not suit all.
My son is studying in Indian School, Tanzania (CBSE Syllabus) and completing class 10 this year. He wants to go back to India and pursue PUC and thereafter Aeronautical Engg. I know that he will not be eligible under DASA if he finish his 11th & 12th in India.
If completes 11th & 12th in India, can he apper for AIEEE? If he passes AIEEE with good marks can he apply for Aeronautical Engg as a normal Indian Student? We don't want to go for NRI quota as it is costly.
Regards
Rao R
Rao ji, I am presuming you are an NRI, below is my response * NRI children can appear for AIEEE/IITJEE/AIPMT- no issues – even if doing their 11/12 from abroad. After cracking these exams, the normal fee as applicable to resident apply (if qualify thru competitive exam). Would you still consider to send him to India for 11/12th?
MR. Raj You are giving very good information, god bless you. I have some small questions, my son inshallah will be clearing this year 10+2, we are seeking admission in MBBS in Hyderabad through DASA NRI Quota as he has completed the whole 10+2 from Emirates, Abu Dhabi. The following are the quostions.
1. Which college we can get the admission????
2. What would be the fees structure??
3. Whether we have to approach to any university or college?
Thanking you,
Yours truly
A Ahmed
Dear Ahmed,
I just wished to clear that DASA scheme is only for admissions to engineering colleges. For admissions to medical colleges, about 15-20% seats are reserved by private colleges for NRIs-so you can try that route. For more info in this matter, please follow below link
http://rajtyagi.com/2009/12/mbbs-options-in-top-private-medical-colleges-under-nri-quota/
Sir, My son has two years(11th&12th)of study abroad. Now that DASA has relaxed the three year eligibility rule,I presume that my son qualifies under DASA/NRI quota. He has a SAT 2 score of 1830 and is going to improve his score in May 2012. Will I be able to report the scores by May 29th? Or his previous score of 1830 is enough to fetch him admission in NIT Trichy? Please clarify on the fee structure, that is, apart from the tuition fee of $7000,what approximately will the other fees come upto. Thanks.
Congratulations as you are one of those lucky who would benefit from a good decision by DASA to bring the eligibility to 2 years. I strongly suggest to re-appear for SAT2 exam. Anything like 2100 would make a sea-change in the branch. A score of 1830 can certainly get admission to NIT-T , but only to the bottom branches. Good Luck.
Hostel fee and other expenses, which may typically range from
US$ 400 – 800 per annum and may vary from institute to institute, are required to be paid by the candidate directly to
the institution at the time of admission. Students are advised to visit the websites or contact concerned authorities of
the respective Institutes for detailed information regarding hostel accommodation and expenses
I would suggest to go for an engg college that has a ranking in top 25 in India. I don't think PICT is ranked even in Top 50 or higher. Please don't misunderstand me since these days most of the top job hunters are going to only Top 25 or Top 50 colleges depending on their purse.
thank you
Best Regards
What would be the optimum SAT2 score for IT at NIT-K Surathkal?
For NITK-IT, a score of 2000 should be fine.
Dear Mr. Tyagi,
Your blog is very useful and informative. For the current year what would be an ideal SAT 2 score for joining B.Arch in NIT – Trichy ?
Vijay
For NIT-T Arch, a score of about 2100 should be fine.
Sir,
I'll be appearing for the May 5th SAT and my results will be out by 25th of May. Since the last date of reception is 29th of May, how may I ensure that it reaches before the deadline?
Also sir, what would be an ideal score for ECE in NIT Calicut?
2150 should be a good score for NIT-C ECE.
It is the applicant’s responsibility that the SAT2 scores reach by 29th May- whether it is to be hand delivered, Auto delivery by Collegeboard, a reliable courier or an earlier exam date is all the choice of the applicant. Quite a many candidates appear for exam before May for the 1st attempt and have a valid score ready without waiting for the last date.
Dear Raj,
My son will be appearing for 10+2 exams at singapore in the year 2012 . The examination is conducted by University of Cambridge UK and singapore examination board. His subjects are Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Economics and General paper. my son is interested in seeking admission to undergraduate engineering course at indian universities.
Can you could advise me regarding the following
1. Is the singapore-cambridge GCE A level exam with physics chemistry, maths, economics,General paper equivalent to Indian 10+2 exam for seeking admission to undergraduate engineering course in India?
2. What are the minimum grades required in the GCE A level exams to be eligible for entry into undergraduate engineering courses in Indian universities?
3. Is he required to obtain an equivalence certificate
He has passed his O levels in singapore conducted by University of cambridge UK and singapore exam board with physics ,chemistry maths, biology, english, hindi and has obtained A grades in all the subjects.
He also holds an Indian passport.
Yours faithfully
Anand
1) I would think, it is fine as far as qualifying exam is concerned. Please refer following eligibility condition
All Candidates must have passed the qualifying examination, i.e. Senior Secondary [10+2] or equivalent
from any system of education as recognized by the Association of Indian Universities with Physics and
Mathematics as compulsory subjects and any one of the following as optional subjects viz. Chemistry,
Bio-technology, Computer Science, Biology. In addition candidates must have secured a minimum of at
least 60% aggregate marks or 6.75 CGPA on a 10 point scale or equivalent grades in the qualifying
examination.
2) min 60% or 6.75 CGPA
3) To be on safe side, you would need to produce equivalence certificate to convert GRADE into percentage or CGPA
I suggest you get in touch with dasanit.org and confirm the above (would also appreciate to provide your feedback).
I believe in this case evaluation (equivalency certificate) needs to be taken from Association of Indian University.
More details are:
http://www.aiuweb.org/Evaluation/evaluation.asp
Somewhere in the middle of the above link you will see:
The Division issues Equivalence Certificates to the students with foreign qualifications to facilitate their admission in Indian Universities. The students are advised to send the following documents for issuing Equivalence Certificate:
1. Degree/Certificate together with the year-wise Academic Transcript duly authenticated by the Indian Embassy in the country or its concerned Foreign Mission in India.
2.Accreditation status of the University/Institute, the student has last attended.
3 Copies of the academic certificates from Higher Secondary onwards (where necessary) SERVICE CHARGE
For issue of Equivalence Certificate, US $ 200 or equivalent Indian currency payable through Demand Draft favouring "Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi". A sum of Rs. 200/- and Rs. 500/- is charged from individuals and Institutions, respectively, seeking clarifications on the status of qualifications.
Note: Candidates seeking admission to Medical/Engineering programmes must have studied the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Mathematics respectively and English in Grades 11 & 12.
***
3. GCE/IGCSE/GCSE examinations of the approved British Examining Bodies in UK( University of Cambridge & Edexcel etc.), Singapore, Hong Kong, and Mauritius with passes in 5 subjects at ‘Ordinary Level’ in A,B,C grades including English and 2 subjects at ‘Advanced Level’. For admission to professional courses – medical/engineering Advanced level passes in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/ Mathematics and English are essential besides 5(Five) passes at GCE 'Ordinary Level'.

Thanks Mehta ji !!
Hi,
Can you fuirnish details on admission process for NRI students in UDCT Mumbai. I am interested to place my son in UDCT for chemical enginering.
I really do not track state-level colleges, however, I think UDCT no longer offer NRI seats. As far as Maharashra is concerned, COEP (Pune) does offer NRI seats.
Dear Mr. Tyagi,
thanks for valueable informations. My son who is US Citizen/PIO studying in India since 6th grade and currently in 12th grade in India. Is he eligible for DASA?
Thanks!
For Foreign Nationals (non-Indian passport), it is OK to study in India and still qualify for DASA scheme. Good Luck!
thanks, you are a great help.
i wanted to know the procedure for admissions in DTU for 2012, if anyone has any idea please inform.
secondly, i wanted to know if a student in a specific college can take a transfer to another college?
DTU admission process is not out- normally it is published quite late.
College/branch change is possible until AIEEE admission process is closed (normally by Sept of the respective new admission session)
Dear Mr. Tyagi,
Nowhere in this year's brochure I see studying 3 years outside India as the eligibility criteria. Does that still hold importance. Your comment would be highly appreciated as my son has done only 11th and 12th outside India and I wonder if he is still eligible.
Regards
We do have info on eligibility criteria in the past (i.e 3 years). However, please wait for the full details of this years DASA scheme to take a final call. Most of the private colleges (VIT, Manipal, Thapar) could be an option for you, if the rules are not changed this year.
Are the rules for DASA2012 same as in 2011. In the DASA 2012 flier no mention has been given as regards the eligibility criteria for minimum 5 years study abroad with last 2yrs(11th & 12th) must from abroad?
Since last couple of years, DASA eligibility is 3 years abroad with 11/12 from abroad (5 years was criteria until 2009 when it was changed to 3 years).
Hi Raj,
If u have any idea kindly inform me followings:
1. What was the cut-off SAT2 score for CSE at IIIT Hydrabad in 2011 uder DASA scheme.
2. Which will be better…. CSE at MNIT Alahabad or EEE at NIT Warangal or Trichy.
1) NRI Admissions to IIIT-Hyd is not thru DASA but on standalone basis managed by IIIT-H. The institute does not publish the scores, but I understand scores of 2100-2200 is good enough.
2) The aptitude and inclination of the student is must for the branch selection. I have seen many instances where the students were pressured by parents into selecting the ‘best’ branch. As per AIEEE cut-off for last years, CSE branch was much in demand than EEE considering the colleges noted by you.
Raj,
Thanks for the information.
Is there an NRI quota other than DASA scheme for Engg. Admission 2012-13 ( Civil).
If yes, Any fee difference under NRE Quota and DASA admissions?
There is no central scheme other than DASA for NRI’s. However, many states have provision for 5% seats (govt/private both) for NRI kids who are studying abroad/India. The details of these schemes are available on the respective state’s coordinator agency for technical education of that state. The fees are almost same as DASA.
Reference below for UP state
http://uptu.ac.in/pdf/AIEEEadvt.pdf
Thanks very much. Right now there are Engg. NRI students who got into NITs under NRI quota without getting routed through DASA. Is it that it is stopped now recently, please?
Hi Raj,
Any idea, what SAT-2 score range will help one get admission for Computer Science in NITT?
2150 would be a good score for CSE in NIT-T.
As on December 2011 you stated that 2150 would be the cut off for CSC NIT-T.
Any idea what's the cut off now?
In 2011, the closing SAT score for CSE in NIT-T was 2090. Based on this fact, I had stated in Dec 11 that 2150 could be a good score. Now two things have occured 1) The SAT scores are quite high for many students in 2012 (compare 1 no. 2400 score in yr 2011 VS 8 nos 2400 score in 2012 in Bahrain alone, and the number of 2400 is growing everymonth), 2) The recession clouds are not as dark as they were last year and the student’s preference for CSE branch had nosedived last year. The branch preference for a particular year is a collective decision of students/parents and my sense is CSE would not be beaten down as it did last year.
Therefore, please take my views on SAT score for a branch/college for guidance only and they could very well differ by some margin (wish some of us could see the future). Please do not take any decisions prematurely basis the expected closing SAT score comments I have been making on the blog.
In 2011,OCI?PIO s were allowed take AIEEE right
OCI not allowed in AIEEE even in 2011
do i have to pay the fees other than tution fee and hostel fee in DASA? how much will that amount to? and can a foreigner appear for AIEEE exams?
Fees other than tuition/ hostel would be of minor nature (eg semester exam fee). Only Indian nationals,non-resident Indian, Persons of Indian Origin/OCI holders can appear for AIEEE. If you are from Nepal, DASA is the best bet.
Hi Raj,
You mention that OCI holders can apply for AIEEE. I don't think so.
In the online AIEEE application form, there is a drop down menu for Nationality. When we select "Foreigner" and submit, it says "Foreign nationals are not eligible to apply for AIEEE".
Besides, OCI holder is not an Indian national. Please correct me.
PIO’s/OCI/ Foreign Nationals cannot appear for AIEEE. However, OCI can appear for IIT JEE exam- strange but true.
For Mech, you may get in all except for top 5 colleges. EEE you can get exceept in K.
