Update: 6 Nov 2012

DASA scheme for the year 2013-14 is expected to be announced later this month. In the meantime, the below info on DASA Scheme for NRI's/PIO's would be useful.

Update 30 May 2012

I request the blog readers to share their views if this post helped them personally in taking a decision. Obviously, I would be open to criticism if the expected cut-off are missing the bulls-eye by a big margin (>80-100 points for top 5 colleges). However, it is quite possible that the cut-off could be much higher going by the solid response to the scheme this year. Keeping the fingers crossed.

All the very best to all DASA Scheme applicants. Good Luck.

Update 28 May 2012

Please refer below link to find out the expected cut-off SAT2 marks for DASA 2012. Kindly note that these are 'expected' marks and could differ by some margin for this year as it is obviously difficult to predict the preferences of candidates for a particular year.

  1. sir ,
i have a choice of thapar university cse and mnnit cse which one do you think from the point of view of placement, quality of education and overall development.
i belive infrastructure wise thapar is better

    • Please refer to ranking of institutes on this blog. On most of the parameters, MNNIT would outscore Thapar. Being a private institute, Thapar has better hostel facilities. Having said this, I like Thapar because it regularly features in top 25 institutes of India.

      • sir
i am confused . i am sure i will have better life in Thapar and MNNIT will have hardships hence i would like to choose Thapar   but am i losing a better brand and prestige of MNNIT.

        • If your priority is better life (away from some hardships), so be it. Thapar. Life is all about making choices and living with it. The main thing is that if you work really hard and develop your personality, it won’t really matter from where you did your engg.

          • Well said sir, I will infuse the same in my child's brain. Thanks for the pearls of wisdom.

  2. Sir,
My SAT score is 2070. I was not allotted any courses in the 3 rounds because I only chose Mech and ECE in NIT-Trichy. I am now trying for spot round and have focused on getting Metallurgical & Materials Eng. How is NIT-Puducherry since it is a new NIT? Is the quality of education very different from other new NITs?
    Thank You,
    kaushik.

    • I will not suggest anyone to go for the new NITs if you can get a good branch in old NITs.

      • Do you think Metallurgical and Material Science Eng is available? I have been following through in all the rounds, and no one seems to have chosen MME in NIT-T.

  3. Dear Sir

Do you feel that seats in NITK will be availible during the spot admission esp. For branches like Mech.  Should i decline my seat at NIT Trichy and take part in spot round. Please help.

My sincere thanks to you for your marvellous efforts.

    • I am not so optimistic that decent branches in top 5 dasa institutes would be available in spot round.

  4. Dear Sir,
I have a score of 2230 and I have accepted CSE in PEC. As far as the level of education in the college and coaching for GRE/GMAT, TOEFL from other private coaching classes in the city is concerned, do you think I have made a wrong decision by not referring AIEEE ranks and choosing MNNIT, Allahabad over PEC?
Campus placements are not my priority. Is there a VAST difference between MNNIT and PEC that way?
Also, is there even a slight possibility for me getting into CSE in DTU this year?

    • Each city has own advantages not related to the institute itself. Chandigarh has better facilities for CAT prep. There is not vast difference between the two, it boils down to the individual performances. You have not indicated your scores for Maths and Phy; need to have 1500+/1600

      • Thank you for the very prompt reply. It's also relieving to know that PEC isn't bad, as I know I'd be able to perform well in the field I've chosen. I've got a score of 1490/1600 so there is less hope, almost none I believe. Thank you.

  5. Hi,
could you tell me why more people are opting for CSE than IT? Does it have a better job oppotunity?? Pls tell.

    • The opportunities in CSE are wider, however IT related jobs are ample in India. From employer's perspective, the best rankers choose CSE and when looking for raw talent, the preference is obvious.

  6. Hi
could you tel me which is a better option?
CSE in MANIT bhopal or Integrated PG course in ABV-IIITM gwalior?? which has better placements??

    • The better rank candidates in AIEEE choose MANIT over ABV-IIITM and therefore has better placement. However, the gwalior IIIT is shaping up well and would have good future provided the students can grab the opportunities provided in the campus.

    • Dear sir,
The date of announcement of results was 15 june,5 pm(tentative).I have no idea where would iiit-h people announce the results ,on our portal or send us an e-mail.Please students who know abt this ,plz reply back..Till now no results been announced..

      • Spoke to DASA admissions coordinator at IIIT-H on Friday around 5pm, expecting to see the results.
I was told that the results will be communicated by Email on Monday also, I was informed that for 20 seats
there are 70 applications, 16 of whom have perfect 2400's.
Distribution of seats among CSE/ECE/CSD/ECD/CND are not clear. ( no answer on the phone)
Even though the website says that there will be interviews
for final selections, no interview invites have been recvd so far.( while we are so close/past the results due date). Hopefully, no interviews !!
My son has a perfect 2400 and expecting our first choice of CSE at IIIT-H.
Noticed that IIIT-H uses overbooking of seats while allocating seats in AIEEE stream and avoid multiple rounds of  merit lists. I am thinking, it may be a simillar practice in DASA stream.

        • Dear sir
Considering the fact that 20 applicants would move to iiit-h ,wouldn't the 20 NITK seats go empty???

        • Raj Sir,
Does this mean some perfect 2400s will vacate their positions in NITs and make way for lower scores during spot round? Isn't this disadvantaging the better scored people who are forced to accept 2nd or 3rd choices in the first 3 lists? Problem this time is the counselling has not started in any other institutes where as the DASA is closing all its rounds. Wish DASA knew this. Is there a way we can convey this to them? Thanks.
          Bharathi.

        • 2 of my friends scored 2400 and did not even apply for DASA as they wanted IIITH or DTU. So we cannot say whether 20 seats will be vacated from dasa or not…
And when are these results coming ?! its already 18th june !

  7. Hi Raj,

My son has got a score of 1430/1600 in SAT II (physics and maths) . He has got admission in NIT Warangal in Chemical Engg in the first list. Do you think he would be able to get admission under NRI Quota in Mechanical Engg in DTU . Does he stand any chaance, there are five seats of Mechanical Engg in DTU and there is no chemical engg in DTU. Please advise

  8. DTU rules are different for foreign national and OCI. As per DTU brochure, OCI holder need to meet the 5 year overaseas study.

  9. Hi,
I had recieved a SAT score of 2000 and had applied for CSE and ECE in NIT calicut. But i havent been alloted a seat yet. So now i'm tryin to get into either MANIT bhopal or NIT goa. I would like to know about the quality of classes for CSE and about the hostel nd food in these two institutes. Which is a bettr option?  Also could you tell me which are the best colleges for CSE that i should apply for.

    • Anyone who has taken admission in Bhopal or Goa, please respond to the query. NIT Bhopal >> Goa. The ranking of branch generally follow the ranking of colleges- we have a separate post on college rankings.

      • Thank you so much for your reply.
I would also like to know how are the placement records for ABVIIITM gwalior?

  10. Dear Sir,
Thanks for your great service to NRIs. My daughter whose SAT- 1760 didn't get her Civil or Chemical in NIT-K or C is applying to DASA special  Spot round.
Parallaly, to apply for NRE Home state (Kerala) quota, how to go about it? Which authority in the State will recommend and to whom, CCB ? Would appreciate your kind reply. rgs, Vlsraj

    • I guess you are referring to 5% quota that most state govt colleges have for gulf NRIs. The best thing for you would be to find out the agency that regulates the admissions to state engg colleges. All the rules will be available on the webiste (do some googling)

  11. Sir, in reference to Bhuj's question, what is being taught in the first year in computer science and engineering?? and secondly is it easy to find any forms of tutions around the nits??
Thanks for taking time and answering our questions. This blog has really helped me.
Also just wanna say this..Bhuj i m coming to nit warangal too; moreover in the same field
    Thanks Mr. Raj Tyagi

    • Normally 1st year subjects are common to all branches, so nothing specific to CSE. The subjects in 1ST YEAR would be: Maths, Physics, Intro to Manufacturing & Engg design, engg graphics. The tuition for engg students is really a new thing for me, however I came across this thing pretty common in Mumbai: can’t say specifically for Warangal. In my personal opinion, self-study is the best course of action.

  12. Hello Sir,
Sir i have accepted the seat for computer science and engineering in nit warangal.Sir i have a question. I was never able to choose computer programming in high school but i know students in 12 grade have chosen computer science as their subject..would this make a difference when they start teaching us about computer programming??..i mean do they expect us to have knowledge about computer programming when we enter college??
    Thanks
    Bhuj

    • The core syllabus of CSE would really start from 2nd year, so you would have enough chance to cover up. Have self-belief and work hard, at the end of the course it won’t matter if you had taken Engg Drg or Ccomputers or XYZ subject in 12th.

  13. Dear sir
Thankyou for your reply!!!!!!So we NRI'S can also get seats under home state kota??Because i have heard from people that one requires 2 years stay in the state for that i.e., a domocile..Please reply n solve my query!!!!!!!

    • Please refer to AIEEE brochure

Indian nationals passing the equivalent qualifying examination from any institution abroad, the State of Eligibility will be determined on the basis of permanent address given in the Passport of the candidate.

  14. Hello dear sir,
I have scored 2150 in my SAT 2 .Looking at previous cutoffs and expected cutoffs of this year, I thought I could easily secure a seat in MECHANICAL branch at least in NIT warangal or Calicut. Unfortunately, the score was not good enough for both the institutes. The cutoff for both was 2170. I was disappointed when I saw "No Allotment" even in the second list. Now that the AIEEE results are out, i would like to know what are my chances in 3rd list and what are my options if 3rd list doesnt provide me a placement?

    • Please refer to DASA website , they have now allowed to receive more choices to those who have not got any seats/accepted any seats..
I really appreciate DASA authorities who have been very dynamic in solving the student’s issues to give them fair chance.

  15. Dear sir,
In the seond allotment list that released this past weeked i was alloted PEC-chandigarh for mechanical. Mechanical is what i always wanted to do. However what is your opinion of this college? especially for us NRIs. Also should i go ahead and accept this allotment or do i decline and try again in the special spot round that is going to take place? Any help will be appreciated.
    Thank you

    • It is a good, reputed college, associated with names like Kalpana Chawala.
I would not advise anyone to leave such college/branch and go for unknown spot round.

  16. Dear Sir,
Could you please rank the following colleges on the basis of academics, student quality, faculty members, campus life and most importantly placement for copmuter science and mechanical eng:
MANIT Bhopal, VNIT Nagpur, MNIT Jaipur, NIT Goa, SVNIT Surat, IIIT Allahabad and ABVIIITM.

    • My sincere advice would be to look at the India Today/Outlook Rankings posted on the very blog especially for such comparisons.

  17. Dear sir,
I am a north indian student currrently in grade 12.I would like to know which is a better college for ECE n CSE MNNIT-ALLAHABAD OR PEC,my dad says that MNNIT is a better institute but I have seen that you have rated PEC better in your blog. Can u please throw some light on this issue ,considering only academics as criteria. Can you suggest abt DTU-ECE  or any other colleges in the north which r good?

      • I have not seen any ranking where BITS-Dubai is ranked in top 50 or top 100 colleges. It is futile to compare it with top 5-6 NITs.
BITS-Dubai has a niche sgement for NRIs who cannot get into any top Indian/US/Singp colleges or want to keep their wards withs them in better physical environment. The good thing about the college is that the graduates can get a job of 6000-8000 dirhams in UAE, mostly by local contracting/engg/financial companies.

    • Most of the north Indian choose following (outside of IIT system) in AIEEE
NSIT , DTU, MNNIT, PEC, IIIT-A, Thapar, Kuru, Jaipur in that order. MNNIT gets higher ranked stduents in AIEE as compared to PEC. Having said that, you can clearly see from DASA cut-off list that DASA students have slightly different priorities

  18. hello sir..
its really gud to see sumone helping foreign nationals soo much and m grateful to what u have been doin..
i would like to ask is it true that alot of NRIs take admission in NITS through AIEEE than through DASA??
i got a sat score of 2070 n havnt got a seat under DASA in the 1st and 2nd list.. I choosed CSE in warangal, surathkal n trichy in the same order of preference..
now since the AIEEE results are out, are there chances of me gettin a seat in third allotment or should i wait for spot round??
    lookin forward for ur reply..
    thanks alot..

    • About 10-15% candidates could join AIEEE/DTU/IIIT-H.
I guess, you would have to wait for spot round.

  19. Choose branch over college. NITK. I don't see an option of CSE in DTU listed by you- any reasons?

    • Dear Sir,
Thanks for your reply. Definately I am considering DTU CSE. If I get DTU CSE it is my first choice.
I have got MNIT CSE.   But if I do not get DTU CSE then I which option, (college with branch) u think is better.

DTU – IT , MNNIT Allahbad – CSE , NITK Surathkal – CSE.
      .
My relatives are in Delhi and my parents are in Oman.
      Kindly give your recommendation

      Thank you

      • I have previously suggested to keep the branch over college. The choice is obvious (NITK). There are direct flights from Mangalore and moreover, the relatives cannot be equated to parents in most cases (pun intended).

  20. Sir, Though I applied for a seat through DASA scheme, I have not been allotted a seat though 2nd list was announced. Now, I am afraid whether I can find a seat in the 3rd allotment. I have a score of 1710. If I did not get the desired college in the 3rd allotment, I would like to decline. In this case, can I try for a  Spot Admission seat? If so, shall I have to make another draft for the fee  or the payment which I have already made for US$ 7,000 will do. Please advise.

    • Ideally, you should not decline a seat if you have no other choice. If you don’t get a seat by 3rd round, DASA would most likely allow to participate in spot round (await for instructions on spot round after 3rd round is over)

  21. Dear sir,
My son has got admission in NIT warangal CSE through DASA. But looking at his AIEEE rank, I think he will get CSE in NIT warangal through AIEEE. So how will the refund policy be in this case?
Thanks a lot for you efforts.

    • First of all congratulation for a good rank in AIEEE.
The refund rules per DASA brochure would apply. If you have accepted the seat 50% refund, otherwise 75% refund.

      • Dear sir
Even I would like to know i would definitely get BITs mesra through AIEEE ,so shld i still go for MNNIT-ECE..
        BEST REGARDS

        • There are a lot of DASA candidates in your position wherein they are also expected to get a decent branch thru AIEEE. There are a lot of variables, mainly fees and self-esteem that comes into play. You would have to take a personal call on such tight choices. The keyword is self-esteem.

    • How can u answer AIEEE and get into NIT if u had to answer SAT and enter via DASA? Just curious

      Thanks, Sam 🙂

      • Welcome onboard. Yes, NRIs can appear for all competitive exams and can claim a seat if they can crack IIT JEE/AIEEE/AIPMT at normal resident fees.
One purpose of the blog is to encourage our community students to claim such competitive seats. It gives me huge pleasure this year as I have come to know about 20 such cases personally who have cracked IIT/AIEEE this year. Mabrook! all of such candidates who made their parents prouder.

  22. Hello sir,

I am planning to take up the sat exam. Can you please give me a rough idea about the score for getting into dtu for electrical branch.
    Regards
    Nikhil

  23. Dear Sir,
My son had graduated in 2011, skipped one year and now has secured admission in NIT Calicut through DASA quota. Will he be required to produce a gap certificate?

  24. dear sir
my son compleated his 11th and 12th in kerala. is there any chance for him to get an admission in NIT calicut for mechanical  through nri sponsered quota ? if yes ,is the time over for applying.

  25. Dear Sir,
My son failed to be in the fist list of DASA since his SAT score 1860 was not good enough for CS among the top 5 NITs.  Should I go for spot round and try luck in any one of Top 10 NIT for CS rather applying in private Institutes like VIT.

    • dear RT ,  i did not get SAT SCORES for the May 05 due to some administration irregularity
Do I have chance to participate in spot rounds , I have already registered for the DASA
OR it is better to look out for other colleges ,please suggest some good colleges ,my cbse marks are 80 percent
will dasa refund all the money

      awaiting your kind responce

      • DASA is considering a special round for all SAT scores received in June. Keep track of DASA website. You woold be eligible for spot round.

  26. Thanks alot for all the help. Have stuck to Civil,Surathkal as it is close to Goa, climate and reputed college, and a have a very dear liking towards construction etc. Thanks for everything. Keep up the good work. Kudos

  27. You can get the branch of your choice in DTU.

NITT and DTU are of similar level academically. DTU is better from placement perspective. Frankly NITT and DTU are two extremes when it comes to campus life (NITT being too conservative for some people not used to such things).

    • As far as DASA scheme is concerned, there is NO internal sliding. However, individual NITs may do so on their own discretion. Since the sliding is kind of lottery, it should not be considered in key decision making.

  28. Following are the rules for foreign citizens:
In case of Foreign Nationals candidates, who have passed qualifying examination from any country including INDIA, shall be eligible for admission.

    • Dear Raj Sir,
My understanding is PIO/OCI who studied +2 in India are not eligible to apply for DTU. How ever, FN who is NOT a PIO/OCI can study +2 in India and is eligible for admission at DTU.
Please correct me if I am wrong since I really want my son to get into DTU. He is an OCI who studied from 9th-12th in India. His SAT II in Math+Phy is 1360. Is his score good enough for CSE/ECE in DTU?Thanks,
      Bharathi.

      • The rules for FN and OCI/PIO are different for DTU. It is best to check from the college since it is a question of a budding career and apparently you may not be eligible unless the concerned authorities allow some flexibility.
The score of 1360 is not decent enough and you may not get the desired branch of CSE/ECE this year. The cut-off for the branch may go upto 1450/1500 (out of 1600)

  29. Dear RT,
First my appreciations to you for the yeoman service provided by you to the NRI community . My son will be aspiring for Engg admission next year 2013. How do you rate NITK & NITT compared with College of Engineering , Guindy ( CEG , Chennai ) for CSE & ECE Branches ?
    Regards,
    S.Muthu Kumar

  30. Spot round is not first come first basis, DASA will first announce the available vacancies in the site. Then they will announce  2 days for all the interested candidates to appear in person  at spot round venue with the necessary payment amount as draft and ask to register there and to give options for available vacancies. Then as per the available registration,  next day they will allott the seat to the eligible candidates on merit basis and will announce thro' DASA site.

  31. One of my friend's son got ECE in NITK (score 2400) another 2 got CSE's  in NITK (score 2400 & 2380) All these people are waiting for the BITS ranklist , Singapore admission, DTU etc and they prefer to join these institute than NITK. But they all accepted the DASA first list offer. If they will get admission in other prefereed institutes as mentioned above they will leave for that. But all those counselling will start only by 1st week of July. By the time DASA will close all the rounds for 1st applied candidates. Then who will get all these seats which are going to arise in NITK at the time of admission? whether it is only for the people who already joined NITK VIA internal sliding or via Spot round. Whether that seat will be availble for a candidate who was not given choice 1 because of nonavailability in the 3rd round and forced to join NITT VIA internal sliding

    • DASA rules do not talk about within-the-same-college sliding. It is left upto the individual colleges how they upgrade when some seats remain vacant even after the spot round.

    • Given that the refund is only 75% to 50% of fees (i.e. lose USD 1,750 to USD 3,500) if the allotted candidates do not take up their preferred seats, I am not too sure how many parents are willing to cancel their admissions if their wards have already obtained seats in NIT's

  32. hello sir,
what marks should i score for the 2012-2013 sat exam to get mechanical in trichy, calicut or surathkal

  33. Dear Raj, quick question.

Keeping everything in mind, infra, placements, package facilities, etc etc etc and me being from Goa, whats ur advice …NITW Mechanical or Civil in Surathkal? Please reply ASAP need to give my response top DASA

  34. Dear Raj,
Appreciate if you can provide some info related to hostel facilities for girl students at NIT K,W,T, Jaipur, PEC Chandigarh. A comparision will help.
    Regards,

    • Through my limited knowledge- all NITs have a separate girls hostel. The rooms are shared by 2-3 in the 1st year. I have met 2 girls studying in Trichy and Jaipur. Some girls hostel are about 2 km from main building (like in trichy) so cycling would be required.
Blog readers are kindly requested to post any useful info in this regard to the benefit of the community. Thanks a lot.

      • My daughter is in PEC. NRI girls hostel (DASA candidates) seperately is Kalpana Chawla hostel for first year only. Room is 3 sharing. Hostel is well maintained. Food quality  as provided by mess is not very good. Have to depend on alternative /private hotels and home delivery. There is a market inside PEC where every thing is available.

      • I do not know about NITK or NITT infra. With respect to hostels, NITW has great hostels. I think it is the only institute that has an International Hall of Residence (or simply known as DASA Hostel) where all are single seater rooms with attached bath.  Ladies hostels are also good, but there isn't a separate one for DASA Girls.
        Apart from Hostels,
        – Library is Excellent.
        – Labs and Workshops are Good.
        – Classrooms are Average (need simple maintenance)
        – Faculty are friendly
NITW's Springspree (cultural fest) and Technozion (tech fest) are by far the best of all NIT's
The Admin is generally not very strict. Students have plenty of freedom.

  35. Dear sir
Could you tell me a little about how good is MNNIT-ALLAHABD for ECE,in terms of faculty n placements?

  36. Sir, My son is allotted with a seat in Production Engineering branch in NITT. Is it possible to make upgradation request without changing the institute (i.e. within NITT)

    Thank you
    Phil

    • Upgradation can be given for any of the higher choices filled-in by you. If any of your higher choices included some other college, it can happen.

  37. Dear Sir
If you check the various lists on the internet, they all show NIT Trichy as the best NIT currently. Why is then NIT Surathkal most sought after, even though it is third in the list.( Warangal being second).  Any specific reason?
Thank you for your help sir.

    • Obviously there is a pattern and reason behind this (and for so many years). Surathkal is pretty cosmopolitan, has good airport connectivity, has the best infrastructure (hostel/food/campus). The best thing is to ask all 2400 SAT2 score holders, many of whom chose Surathkal.
      Please share your view.

      • NITK is 1st choice becoz of the temperature(main reason) as well as location near to beach compared to NITW n NITT(hot humid around 40°C ) also surathkal is rich in infrastructures. for foreigners bangalore is best location which doestn't have either iit or a nit. and students thought the 3 NITS with same rank due to variance in surveys and all are institute of national importance

  38. Dear sir,
In the first list that released yesterday I failed to get a seat as per my given choices. I have  a SAT-II score of 2070 and I had opted for mech and CSE in NITK, NITT, NITW  and PEC-C. What do you think are the chances of me getting a seat in the second and third allotment list.
Also would you recommend me applying to DTU? My SAT-II physics and math scores is 1390 out of 1600. What are the chances of me getting a seat there?
Another major point of concern for me is that the spot admission takes place only in the end of July. When it comes around I will be applying to MNIT/SVNIT/PEC/IIITA. However I can also apply to the top private colleges such as PSG in Coimbatore/ PESit in Bangalore/SRM in chennai.  So my question is that do I apply to these private colleges now? Or do I wait till the end of July Nd risk loosing these private colleges?
A last question. How does the spot admission system work? You mentioned  Ina previous comment that it uses first come first serve basis. This seems to be a very inaccurate system… Is it first come first serve or is it  merit based?

Thank you for your time and advice. You website has been a great ell to not only me but also to NRIs all over.
    Thanking you,
    Varun

  39. Dear Mr Tyagi,

My son has got admission in chemical in warangal with sat. Score of 2150, please advise if we should apply for him at bits meera also , does he stand a chance there. His 12th marks have been 82pct. Also the comparison between bits meera and warangal in terms of placements and ranking.

  40. I have been following your blog for long and it has really helped me.
I have been alloted a seat in MNNIT CSE, MNNIT being my 4th choice. I will try upgrade but the possibility seems rare. Now when I try to find more about MNNIT, everyone (blogs, websites) say the education is good but infrastructure is poor (4 students in a room meant for 3 and others as such). I tried to contact the current students but my efforts were futile. So it would be of tremendous help if you could give me a clear picture of what MNNIT and Allahabad is like so i can make up my mind about what to expect from MNNIT.

    • MNNIT infra is certainly better than what it was 2-3 years back based on a feedback from a student in 3rd year. Beyond that, I would request parents, whose waards are in MNNIT, to share their views.

      • In the past few years, MNNIT Allahabad has seen some great improvement with respect to infrastructure. The intake recently increased significantly, and this paved the way for a lot of construction activity, which has seen MNNIT become one of the best-looking government institutes in the country. All the classes are air conditioned, the hostels (seven for boys and one for girls) are well maintained, with a huge new one coming up. The laboratories are excellent as well, especially the mechanical and computer labs; the college has a three storey computer centre! The library, a common place for nerds to hang out, is spacious and extremely rich in terms of books. The college has decent facilities for a number of sports like cricket, football, tennis, badminton, basketball, etc. They also have a few cafes and tiny outlets here and there – a Bikaner outlet provides tasty snacks at subsidised rates, while there’s a nice Rich Cafe in the boys hostel. The best part, most students say, about NIT Allahabad is their internet, which is ‘ultra fast’. No wonder the college is one of the very, very few institutes in India to have a supercomputer of its own.
          From http://passkarado.com/article/?p=256&strip=1 (May 21, 2012)

  41. You score of 2110 is not great for IIIT-H (though IIIT-H doesn’t publish cut-off, but they have only 20 seats). You can get DTU. No need to pursue Mesra as already got a better seat. Opting for overseas college depends on so many factors that I try to remain away from commenting.

  42. For Mech, DTU is better than most NITs.
For CSE, IIIT-H is best institute outside IIT system.

  43. Dear Rajtyagi

Many thanks for your help. The first list is out. As per your prediction, cut-off for NITC civil was 1800 whereas it is 1880 actual. Do you think my son will get civil in NITC with 1800 score in 2nd or 3rd allotment or I should look for other options?. Also, any chance for Chemical in NITC with 1800 score? Thanks for quick reply.

    • My suggestion is to look out for other options (spot round included). There is no guarantee the sliding would occur to a large degree.

  44. Dear sir

    Greetings

I thank u for your humble effort towards us students.
Please could u tell me wat u expect the cutoff for nitK Mech for the 2nd and 3rd list
i hav a sat ii score of 2330

    • Some reasonable sliding (20-50 points) could happen for other intitutes, but expecting the same for NITK is not practical since it is most sought after.

  45. Hi Raj
My daughter with 2300 SAT score got NITW-CSE which was her third choice. Her first and second choice was NITT-CSE and NITK-CSE respectively. We have asked for upgrade. What are the chances of her getting NITT or NITK CSE in the second allotment?

  46. Dear sir,
    1)  what happens to the students who haven't got any allotment due to choice unavailibility?
    2) what exactly is spot admission? How will seats be allotted in this round.

    • 1) Those who apply to upgrade may get a higher branch.
      2) The procedure for spot-round would be published by DASA. Generally, spot rounds are held in NITK-Surathkal and in Delhi. The seats which remain vacant even after satisfying upgrade are allotted on first-come-first-serve basis (personal appearance). There are >2000 seats total so there are ample choices remaining.

  47. Thanks RT for the fantastic job done. My son got EEE in NITT and now waiting for upgrade and his score is 2230. This year calculations have gone all wrong as compared to 2011 DASA merit list.
Please advise if in the II list , he can get ECE in NITT?
We have followed your blog  and enjoyed the informative exchanges.

    • You are just 20 points away from ECE in NIT-T so reasonable chances (I mean pray that some people don’t join and not many apply for the same seat in upgrade)

  48. PLEASE HELP ME OUT!!!!!URGENT HELP REQUIRED,I REALLY WANTED TO GET INTO NIT-WARANGAL,I LOST BY 30 MARKS ONLY….

    • Pray that some people don’t join and not many apply for the same seat in upgrade. It is possible.
